Thread: Success in using /areatrack to find Krayts or other rare spawns?
Same experience as Protenius but our group that was out trying to hunt Krayts was much smaller (about 6 plus pets) and it was 2 groups of 20 imps with several ATSTs and a third smaller group, I think.
If we thought it would be possible, we would have alljoined theRebels (we're all neutral withsome ofus having high rebel sympathies)and helped-out the Krayts, but we knew we had no chance no matter how many people we had even with the Krayts on our side. I even considered for a split second trying to /rescue the Krayt, but that would have been instant death. Now if me rescuing the Krayts and having the ATSTinsta-killing me made the entire group I was with able to attack the Imps, that would have been worth trying (great way for those with 0 rebel and 0 imperial togain somefaction points) ![]()
I have not done anything with high level creatures and areatrack. My experience has been similar with using areatrack for explore missions. I have things show up on my menu (I only have direction currenly) and we run out in the direction for several hundred meters. Since it seems the radias distance for areatrack is 500m, we should be finding these things within that distance.
My opinion is that there should be no difference is creature/mob types, as in how it interacts with our areatrack. The best, most lucritave, and groupable part of areatrack, is that we can use it to find these creatures. People want to go on Krayt hunts, but it's always been so hard to actually find one. Well, go hire a ranger to find one for you, and keep the group safe while doing so.
/areatrack, and /track (when put in) should work fine with tracking any kind of animal. Lets see what area track works like with direct waypoints to mobs.
I told them I would look, set up a HTFB and went roughly 550m in a random direction. Scanned the area, found no Kimos. Went another 100m or so and found an adult and a hatchling 489m NorthWest. I reported my findings to the SquadLeader and to sit tight as I would verify findings.
Roughly 480m I found them. Reported location and the team came running.
Not only did I find those two, but we hit on a lair so we got 5-6 out of it.
It was good to feel needed and the SL immediately added me to his friends list for future hunting parties.
but we got agro'd along the way because of /conceal and maskscent... oh well.
Unfortunatly this is a type of side-effect that /areatrack has with the random spawning present in SWG.
Most of the time you have a creature or camp 'pop up' ontop of you, its not lag - its because the server just spawned that creature there due to your presence. Thats the reason you can run out into the middle of nowhere, and it'll generally be empty - but if you hang out there long enough, lairs will start spawning around you.
Since /areatrack only picks up creatures that are allready spawned within its radius, it does not (and can not) take into account the random spawns. So you'll never get a fully accurate report of whats around you, because not everything is actually there yet. Like last night, I was 'hired' to track down krayt dragons for a group. Several times my track would reveal nothing but our pets around, but then we'd walk 10 meters and a nest would appear. I only succesfully tracked down 1 krayt (we hit it at the wrong time of day, they aparently spawn more at night) - the rest we just 'ran up on'.
This is one of the main issues why /areatrack isn't worth much at the moment. Its ok to use for just hunting for resources, but to actually track down a specific creature we're looking for - I'm affraid we'll have to wait for the rest of our tracking abilities to be put in.
I do wish /areatrack had a wider range for master, however.

The only problem i see with that is if you are trying to track for creatures to tame. There might be three or four lairs close by but maybe only one of them will have any babies. If only the lairs showed on track there would be no way to know that there was a baby. Maybe they could make it as a toggle option. Either 'Track Lairs' or 'Track Individual Animals' or something.

- Why even bother with a toggle? Just make Lairs an one of the choices when you start /areatrack ![]()
Had the exact same experience last night in apparently close to the same location as Phigon. Succesfully tracked 5 Kimo's and 3 Kimo hatchlings....and it did indeed feel very good to feel needed. ![]()
Unfortunately I didnt get trained in Track 4 before we left and I capped out my scout xp. Major bummer. Was pulling 1886 per Kimo harvest.
While I agree that being able to find babies to tame is a great use for tracking, I would much rather clean up the list.
Any lair that has adults will have babies at some point. You may have to "thin the herd" or leave the area and let new creatures spawn there to get babies to spawn.
Only a minor inconvienience to suffer in order to get a clearer more refined and accurate track if you ask me.
Pretty much what happened to us. However, I spotted a Juvenille Krayt on tracking and right on cue as everyone asked me where it was, it ate me. Oddly enough a Canyon Krayt spawned at the same time. Fun.

Has anybody had any success with using /areatrack to find Krayts or other rare spawns? Krayt-hunting seems to have become my in-game occupation of late, but I've realized some things about the using /areatrack in the Krayt Graveyard.
Tonight for instance, when we first got the to graveyard I pulled up the menu and got a Giant Canyon Krayt 260 meters Northeast, we go northeast for a little while, don't find anything, pullup /areatrack again and no krayts are on the list, now we only travelled about 300 meters in a northeast direction so it should still be on the list right? Nope, I figure it has despawned, which I'm sure is the case as we were the only group in the graveyard. For the next two hours we wander the graveyard killing all lairs and spawns with me constantly tracking and find no signs of Krayts anywhere at all.
