Correct: the guarenteed way is do them all, and now there are very efficient methods found to do many profs in a day or a few days while AFK. If they leave this in, the "short bus people" will still use it. Especially if the "quest" involve SBD's

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

The only macro I use is a /maskscent macro. I just let it restart my maskscent bout every 2 minutes. Sure, when it breaks I have to then push /maskscent again but other than that I rarely ever macro.

"recursive" macros are being removed from the game.

While this seems to be wonderful news for the entertainers whose joy knows no bounds over on their forum tonight, it's less good news for anyone who uses one for, eg, auto-harvest/loot.

Not really a major disaster, but its worth having a look at TH's post and the feedback.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=44991

"The design to decision to remove them from the game has been made. They are coming out soon to clean up a lot of the AFK game. You will still be able to write fairly long macros, but you will no longer be able to loop them and use a macro to activate a macro from itself."
-TH 1/8/04

He does appear in that thread to ask players for feedback on what it will mean to their profession, but as the decision seems to have been taken to nerf recursives it seems moot.

Anyone think this will be a particularly good or particularly bad thing for Rangerdom?

I will be the lone wolf and say that this is bad. I use macro's (looped) to harvest from animals and Loot. This is a way to make my life a little easier in game. I think that most rangers don't loop macro much that affects other players.

For good or bad it will end meatlump Macroing for good.

Oh well did that some no big deal there.

Calculus_Entropy wrote:Back to the main issue here....buffbots, which is the the main cause for this change IMO,were certainly detrimental to the Ent andDoctorprofessions (maybe not as bad as some people made them out to be). FWIW, I will tell you that the Ents were NOT pushing to remove the recursive macros. They wanted a more interactive, and therefore non-macroable, way to use their professions.

I'm a little suspicious of this. It seems to me Entertainers have been screaming for months about afk zombies and buff bots. Only just recently an Entertainer who was reporting every bot he saw got a message from a CSR stating that if he didn't like the bots, go to another cantina. However, it is only a week or so since that huge mess with the Squad Leader from Radiant (wince) who got suspended for abusing his SL macro on his afk SL bot.

THAT incident led to a ton of CSR and dev bashing. I am sure it caused a lot of grief for the CSR and technical support department. The timing of Jeassa leaving right after is also suspicious. Personally, I wouldn't be able to handle being a board mod. Kudos to Garva, Jeassa, and all the others.

So I don't think it was totally the Entertainer and Doc bots who inspired the change, though I am sure they were a big consideration. The SL situation may have just been the proverbial straw.

It was suggested on the Ent forum to remove the recursive macros - but it was split into three camps. Remove ALL macros. Remove recursive macros. Add benefits for ATK players. The Corrs were behind the idea of giving benefits to ATK players rather then getting rid of macros I think. There will be a lot of cheering and a lot of booing on the forums, time will tell which camp will come out on top.

I feel your pain on the sampling thing. Of course, sampling is really the only thing besides loot camping that is obviously against afk policy (hence the nifty little friggin pop-up window). But sampling is sooooooo... bleh. And harvesters are so hungry. I feel your pain.

AFK sampling on TCshouldn't be a problem. Make yourself a Bothan and max out the secondary stats. You can sample like this continuously so you only need a macro to stay online. I'd recommend a macro like:

/mask

/pause 1200

/mask

/pause 1200

...

/pause 1200

/mask

You should be able to get a long enough macro to last all night like that. If not, make another macro that starts with /pause (length of first macro) and repeat. It's not optimal but it should let you keep up the sampling without too much trouble on TC (but not on a regular server that only gives you one character unless you are really sick and just make 100 macros to handle it).

So,wait, your saying I can't have my AFK looping forage macroany more.Crap.

Seriously though,I think this is a good thing and can't see what effect this could have on Rangers. With the exception of maybe a mask scent macro I don't think there's anything we need a looping macro for. It's being taken away because people figured out what you could do with the thing, and abused the crap out of it.They're taking away AFK starport ad spammers and gave them a new shiney channel.Maybe I can go through Theed now. This is a good thing. For those who grind AFK,and are to lazy to do things themselfs,I wonder a)what's your hurry? b)why do you even play the game?I realiaze it's your $15 and you can do whatever you want, but, well, why. You won't be able to pick up a novice profession before you go to work and be a master by the time you get home.Slow it down a bit and maybe learn your profession.

Now as for the entertainers,I'm glad I'll be able to walk into a cantina and maybe actually have a conversation.I do know there are some really good entertainers out there who relie(sp?) on some long and looping macros to put on they're incredable shows while still being able to chat and whatnot. So here's a little secret--gather round now--write out your long macros, put them in their slots, and go to the options menu.In there you'll find a neat little thing,it's called an alarm, and it can be set to reoccurring.Set your alarm, when it goes off reach your nubby little appendage up and hit the next F-slot.

So in summary and to conclude,I think it's about time something was done about the AFK syndrom. It's going to force people to,oh no,watch out, actually play the game.I think the whole meaning of the game is lost when you try to speed through it by useing AFK macros.

Maybe I'm just cynical, but it seems like the Devs just want to get people to interact more on a social level. Unfortunately, so many people have built entire business around buff houses that this has become the norm. Buff prices are going to skyrocket immediately after this patch is in place, which will drive the costs of all animal materials even higher, which will in turn bump the buff prices...ugh. It's not pretty.

this new macro change won't effect my gameplay at all. there is only one macro that i use. it is a macro that when i press sheft + F3 it will do a targetSelf command, and then apply first aid. that is my first aid macro (because i have that skill from medic).

they fixed the thing with medic where if you had a hostile targeted it would heal your own damage, but unfortunatly they did not do this with the firstaid command to stop bleeding. so i wrote a short macro for that, but other than that, i don't macro at all.
