since the class description says we track it would be nice to have it.

I love the idea of harvest higher quality hide/bone/meat too

This would be a great addition to the tree, but let me play devil's advocate for a second to the "create a spawn" idea...

If this were the case, there had better be a very limited number of "create a spawn" tracks, otherwise, we could get some evil guy who worked up ranger and starts spawning "Giant Gaping Maw Dalydrake of Doom"s all over the place until you don't dare wander into the wilderness without having a fleet of Star Destroyers to back you up. Other than that... this would bea really cool idea.... heh.

Personally, I think this would be a great idea, but I don't think it would work with how SWG works at this juncture. MOBs only spawn when you come within a certain range of them, and I'm not even sure the "random" wandering MOBs are predetermined before someone gets close.

If this is correct (and I'm open to being corrected), tracking would have to function something like this: you use the track function, select from a list of creatures that could possibly spawn at nearby spawn locations, and one of the random spawns in the area currently out of player view would spawn the selected creature and give you a WP to it. Essentially the same idea.

This problem with the server mechanics may be why tracking wasn't implemented.

I am actually very fond of Xionlion's sentiment on tracking. Imagine a Terminal in ranger camps that was connected to a terminal in cities where crafters could post orders for materials and Rangers could "fill" those orders directly from their camps. Then the Parcel would be available for pickup at several designated "Ranger stations" just like the bazaars or bounty hunter terminals.

Pipe Dream.

But, I also back his comment that tracking isnt too neccessary. I hate the "magical" tracking of EQ, list of everything that is there and you magically know the shortest path to get there. I guess with a system of radar in a camp, it could be something akin to a "creature survey" I just feel on a whole we should get what rangers have already working before persuing new features (albeit the ranger needs more).

Creature survey i think is the best idea. But will the names of the creatures be Scientific? I dont know i went insane after the consumption of an odd mix of foods.

Make it so every 3-5 minutes after you start tracking something it says "You start to lose the trail" and you have to stop and do it again and it repicks it up..(More realistic atleast =P)

Tracking would make Rangers a must have for big game hunts..

this is a great idea. I actually had your exact same idea today and made a quick thread about it before I forgot it and found out later you thought of it first. This is something that needs to implemented soon.
