If you can name one success of either of the two Fett Failures, I will give you a melon.
Jango: Failed to kill Amidala twice
Jango: Failed to kill Obi-Wan in a gun fight
Jango: Failed to kill Obi-Wan in a space fight
Jango: Only when Anakin was surrounded, was able to subdue a padawan
Jango: Killed a newb jedi
Jango: Got himself rolled by a bol-type critter
Jango: Lost his head 3 seconds vs. Mace
Boba: Failed to kill Han
Boba: Tracked (but did not capture or deliver) Han
Boba: Failed to kill Chewie
Boba: Failed to kill Luke
Boba: Failed to kill Leia
Boba: Failed to kill Lando
Boba: Punked by a stray shot and ended up in the sarlaac pit
(the fett family movie career is officially over)
Ok... and this is why they were able to use the trap guns... and poison darts,
They both ground up to tracking IV and got the title tracker... but since they werent rangers, they still sucked at it.![]()
hope this helps
That explains why the Storm Troopers were so crap. Crap in->Crap out
. Although Jango at least obviously dabbled in Ranger: He used that poison dart to silence his hired assassin.

The main thrust of my Ranger only philosophy for these reasons.
1) This would provide a necessary differentiation between scouts and rangers. If scouts have the ability to trap PC/ NPC, then we are again in the position of being Scout x 2
2) Once again, I come back to the trap launcher... What if Rangers/ BH get the cert for the trap launcher, but the level of the trap launched must equal or be lesser than the trapping skill.
We rangers would be shooting out the great traps, and the BH, would have a more basic arsenal, as they rely on weaps/ specials for their kills.
For 1, maybe make it like Entertainers vs. Musicians/Dancers with respect to BF healing? A Novice Entertainer can heal BF but you don't get anygoodat it until you pick up Novice Musician or Novice Dancer. So a Novice Scout would have a chance of trapping a player or NPC but they wouldn't be at all good at it (maybe they could hit a thug just outside a city if they were lucky). I just really dislike the idea of saying you can't throw a trap at anything but creatures. I'd be willing to accept it, though.
For 2, I could see the trap launcher enhancing our skills but I don't really understand why you would need it to hit a PC/NPC. It seems like a forced distinction rather than a fluid one. Giving it to BHs is simple--just put it in our trapping tree and any BH can dabble to get it. Although I would rather have traps that work well without it.
Overall, for trapping, I'd like to have something that makes logical sense (i.e. traps can hit anything, even if the chance of it doing anything is small) and that is effective (i.e. we can hit targets that are actually interesting to hit). And I would like to keep the skill dabbling system as intended: You get better at something by specializing in it, not by whining to make the Devs give it to you for free. BHs and Scouts should be able to use traps on anything. It only makes sense that way. On the other hand, BHs should not get better with traps without gaining xp and spending skill points. If they want uber traps, they should be required to get the uber trapping tree. But the traps they can use need to be useful. Otherwise they are just wasting skill points.

I knew I would get someone with the Fett comment

Chill man, I'm guessing this is a result of the BH corr pushing this notion on the corr forums. Please give Calc the ammo for proving the BH corr wrong.

I'm not sure what you were smoking to cause you to start having these random thoughts, but I know it wasn't veghash. Listen here:
Agonthalia beat me to the technical reasoning, so allow me to enlighten you as to why from Oppma's perspective. Bounty Hunter's are people hunters. I'll give you that. But, according to strict Star Wars theology, they used droids to track their targets. Not true "Ranger Tracking".

I direct you to the white text of my original post. This was truely a random thought.

From a SWG perspective, Skinner's take is pretty much on the money. I can't believe this actually crossed your mind Calc. Traps for Bounty Hunters? Why not? They hunt humans... How about we just hand over frontiering to the Squad Leaders, and harvesting to the Scouts and we'll be complete. Oh wait, thats not much different from the status quo as camps are useless and scouts harvest as much as we do.
The time has come for Ranger's to be completed/fixed.
Traps and tracking for Bounty Hunters....someone get the rice balls......gah.....
OK so we have sufficiently covered that BH use droids to track...I agree with you all that that precludes them from taking our Tracking skill. I can even buy that we are looking at footprints, so we can track people, too (for some reason, I never thought of it that way..meh).
Now give me a good reason why BH should not have people traps? As I said, despite their success rate, the Fetts used versions of the darts we would like, the restraint traps we want, etc. The best argument I have seen for not giving BH people traps is that maybe the Fetts were dabbling in Ranger..thatI could actually buy. However, I am still not sure why we should get people traps instead of BH.
Convince me!

I don't think thats an obvious at all. In fact, I think thats just a bad ASSumption on your part
Undermining our profession is probably the last thing Calc would ever do. Its more likely he's trying to help us put our own arguments together in case our tracking line ever was threatened.
Antagonizing us a bit is just his style and I don't think its at all harmful... unless you're the type to get bent all out of shape about it. Maybe you'd prefer a robot correspondent instead, with no personality whatsoever?
I could be wrong of course. Maybe Calc got into the Spy network and is secretly working fot the BH's

Heh, yea me too. I think that's what this post is all about, and maybe that one is yet to come
I would concur about the Fetts dabbling in the trapping line. Even in the Expanded Universe there is not much mention of them "trapping" per se. I also wonder what the Bounty Hunter's would have to give up to get this.
Frankly, trapping NPC's and Players is the perfect way to immerse the Ranger Class in the GCW. This gives us a viable benefit to PvP and Combat, makes the skill point investment somewhat worthwhile, and really gives us a reason to be needed by others in the game.
Bounty Hunters are already uber in PvP, combat and the GCW...I fail to see the need for additional l33tness for them.
