Thread: It's we Rangers that are the TRUE Jedi

Myself and a guildie (Reyune), were sitting in a cantina one day before we took a friend to the warren. The conversation went something like this.
Dancer: Oh, your a Ranger too?
Hon: Yes I am.
Dancer: Wow, your the only 2 Rangers I have ever seen. In fact I have only been playing 2 weeks and have senn way more Jedi than Rangers.
Hon: I would believe that to be true.
Dancer: So what do you do as a Ranger?
Hon: Ummm, it's more of a lifestyle thing
Reyune: I'm back, sorry had to get a drink.
Hon runs outside to avoid the interrorgation......
And left me to deal with the questions! Schmuck! hehe. My answers to her questions...
Dancer: So what kind of skills do rangers have?
Reyune: Good question.
Dancer: Uhmm...so you can track things right?
Reyune: In theory.
Dancer: But you have some cool traps don't you?
Reyune: Define "cool".
Dancer: I saw someone have a really big tent out once.
Reyune: Yeah, cool looking wasn't it?
Dancer: Yeah it was!
Reyune: Too bad that is all it has going for it.
Dancer: I'm confused. Why are you a ranger then if nothing in your profession really works?
Reyune: I'm a stubborn, ignorant jackass that also happens to be a glutton for punishment.
Dancer: ...................oh.
As you can see I was totally unprepared for that line of questioning. I am usually not ever talked to by anyone, except friends from day 1 on Talus, and occasionally "can you train me" person I run into when I come into town.
Plus you can tell the Rangers from the rangers. A Ranger will always greet another Ranger, and get the same respect in return. When Ranger greets a ranger, you get asked for a macro on how to camp.
I have a seen a few other "Master" Rangers in my galaxy. But I am not sure if they were around 5 minutes later or not.
I know we are rare, simply for the fact that 2 of my guildies are rangers and I don't ever seen them.
Truly sorry I have not been on much lately to hang with you bro. Just haven't had much motivation to log in and do stuff when I get home from work. It's been too nice outside lately for me to be inside in front of the computer. But Jekker and Odano and Sharay all said hi and we wish you a safe journey back to the states.
I had my novice Ranger when I did this I think (though it would be a better story if I was still trying to get it).
Mr. MasterRanger (forget his name) appeared infront of the Theed Starport. I said to him, 'you're not so and so the Master Ranger are you?' He said 'I am'. Then I said. 'Well, a Master Ranger needs a tribute' and then I set off about 20 fireworks exclaiming how awesome and respectful Rangers are.
He thought it was hilarious, and I hope I made his day! Rangers are great even though the profession has its problems, and to this day when ever I see a Ranger I try to strike up a conversation with them. I'm still a novice, and really don't want to give it up, but I may have to in the near future, but will allways be one at heart.
See a little dot scoot past the edge of my radar, stop, turn and come straight in towards me.
Expecting one of the 'mature' professions to turn up and rag on me for having no PvP skills and not being uber I was well surprised to find a Jedi Padwan speederbiking his way into camp.
Me: "Are you a j...."
Him: "YOU'RE A RANGER? COOL!"
Me: "you're a je...."
Him: "I always wanted to be a ranger, but I got a holo and had to go commando instead"
Me: "but, but, you're a jed..."
and then he scooted out of camp again before I got a chance to /exam him or take a note of his darned name!
So, there you have it. From the horses mouth.
RANGERS are the business!
Good stuff kalidor... I myself have become re-invigorated in my role as Master Ranger over the past couple of weeks in reading through the forums and finally beginning to post my thoughts.
Many a day has come in frustration where I thought it was time to lay my Wookie MR to rest and just start over with something else. I resisted...
Someone suggested that I drop my MR title so I wasn't losing face when people asked me to haul in 10k+ of the harvest du jour and had to say no since I'm horrible at combat and would never be able to fulfill the order... I did that for a couple of days and went hunting with a couple of guys on Dath... they assumed I was a noob since I was workin on novice fencer and were readily STUNNED when i proceeded to harvest twice as much as they did on every kill... both these guys were TKMs and didnt need me for anything... but i gladly used camokits and /conceal on them throughout the hunt and they were thanking me for the good time in the end...
All of this plus the Great Ranger Meet this weekend has brought life back into my feelings for this game and the community that shapes it. I'll prolly maintain my character on Wanderhome just so I can work him into another MR in the coming months.

I've been a Ranger for as long as I can remember, and I've been content throughout. I've had the same exclamations from other players who can't believe their eyes when they see it, which always leads to a sense of pride.
Recently, I've had a friend take up the game, and so I decided to start a new character on a new server, to play and develop from scratch alongside him. I've opted to try a different career path, but it's been *so* hard to resist workingon the same skills I've got on my Ranger, since I'm just so used to it, and it really suits my playstyle so well. Since Beta, I knew I wanted to play a Ranger, and now I'm struggling to play something different.
I have to agree with everyone, when they say that playing a Ranger is almost like a frame of mind. It's the mindset, not the skillpoints, that matter.
Oorrot
Very true. I started out as a Marskman, but Scout was the first thing I mastered. I actually enjoyed the harvesting, and everything to do with the scouting life. Ranger seemed like a natural fit.
Plus, the stares and comments you get when opening a field base for people who haven't seen it before. ![]()
I have only known two ranger the entire time I have played SWG (since second day of launch). One was my RL brother and the other was a guy I know in an old guild I used to be in. Rnagers are rare and capture the mystique of the jedi better then the jedi do right now. I have actually ran over a jedi with my swoop while comming back from a mission once.
I am also hologrinding ranger for jedi at the moment and combined with rifle you guys own the wilds. Also rangers can do what no jedi will ever be able to do, crawl faster then the average player. ![]()
What do little Rangers have to do with Jedi? Wakka Wakka Wakka ![]()
Now for the official apology:
- I am sorry I said that, and
- I am sorry it took so long to come up with.
Everyone, quit staring at me!
