Thread: Most Helpfullest Ranger Award
My vote goes to all those un-named Rangers that spend their time helping others "In-Game" where it really matters the most. Not to make the forums seem any less important, but it sure makes a difference when a Ranger can "show" you where to go or who to see or any other misc. info....
/tiphat to ingame Rangers

Actually, I would like to nominate Kago. When I had the problem way back getting the krayt skull, he made a new toon to help with the quest that was supposedly "fixed". Also he hooked me with some stuff to help out my toon on his galaxy.
Of course all the other Rangers will be nominated as well, so we are all tied it looks like.![]()
Anyhow, away back in the mists of time I remember it being said that 'rangers are the true jedi'. At the time it was said partly in jest, but as time has gone on I've begun to think more and more that it's closer to the truth than a lot of folk realise.
Personally I don't like singling individuals out for attention, cos like Owen said, I'm a Brit and we don't like that sort of thing
Funny thing is, soon as this thread started today I thought about Phenix, and am glad to see his wee bothan snout peeking out of the punchbowl again! You were gone too long shorty!.
Yah, there's been a lot of negativity on the forums recently. Have a look on some of the other forums and you'll see it wasn't unique to us. You'd think that things had been changing radically on an almost day to day basis and folk were getting all fristrated and angrified... Sure, even here on the ranger forum there's been a little dev bashing, but in all honesty, if there hadn't been I'd have been SERIOUSLY worried that I'd fallen in with a bunch of Stepford Rangers
Have a look round, the folk that are still here. Still doing their best to move the profession forward and, largely, managing to do it without going totally nuts.
All the in-game rangers that don't make it to the forum and who are so often the ones I see helping out new players deserve some recognition too, for sure. Personally I got into the Ranger tree after, way early in my game, meeting a ranger on the outskirts of Espa who listened to my newbish notions, answered all my naive questions, suggested ways to make the profession I was learning at that time more fun (unlike some others in other professions I met who would just rubish it and say that theirs was the 'only' one that mattered).
Most everyone I've had a good experience ingame with has been, either at the time or previously, a ranger. There's something different about you all that makes you stand out, maybe it's pride in the profession, being comfortable with your abilities and just 'knowing' that your character is maybe somebody that you'd not mind knowing IRL.
Anyhow, I reckon you are all great. (even the ranty whinish ones, it's passion for the profession that does it, after all)
Travel well, Rangers.
Forward, aye.
Helpfullest Ranger...
I think that's redundandt. Nearly every Ranger I've met in-game takes extra time to talk and be helpful. Must be because of the grind...
I knew I was going to be a Ranger before I started playing. And even after all that is happening now, I decided to stick it out with my Master Ranger tag (man I was really debating it. Don't want to grind out another profession now though).
I didn't even cruise the forum until I'd been playing the game for four months.
And now I stop by the Ranger boards every time I look at the forum. Lots of Rangers made it happen. And each one of them added something different (The Owen/JB dichotomy was awesome). Won't name everyone, but my hat is off to you all. That is, if we ever get our Ranger hat.
hey guys... i'm glad to read some of the responses...
the goal wasn't really to single out any one person (british or not), but to ... well, basically have a thread like this has been... i know rangers in general are the most helpful bunch, it just makes me glad when i see it... i think almagill got picked on cause it was one of his posts i was reading when i remembered how damn cool rangers are...
plus... i was really tired...

oh... and Hon... howdy!
i knew you were around cause i've seen you posting in all the "good" threads... only... i haven't been lately, heh... but, well... other than that, long long time no see!...
I agree that we're broken (when have we not been), but all of these complaining posts aren't really helping the situation. When I first started reading these forums, there were tons of posts about improvements we wanted and how to best use our working skillset - it was really exciting. New people would ask "what good is this," "what good is that," and there would be some really funny responses and some responses about how to use our skills that were really inventive and really contributed to what we came to call the "ranger playstyle." We were a group of players who celebrated our skillset and tried to make the best out of what we had. From there we asked for what we wanted (for example, the modular camp idea). Now it seems that every other post says "just give up, it's not worth it" or "I've given up you should too" or "don't even bother." People post new ideas for things and they get lampooned for doing it (so what if the guy mispelled "bolo," it was a good idea).
I don't really have a solution to this - my hope was that the really unhappy people would just go away and let the rest of us carry on like we'd always had, but, alas, this time it seems that the unhappy people are hell-bent on making themselves even more unhappy and they're here to stay and posting the same thing in post after post after post. This doesn't qualify as "helpful" to me -- it seems more like "enabling."

I'm sorry but I need to step in here and say that there's a big difference between helping out people and spamming the forums with pointless, defeatist histrionics. I would definitely vote for Almagill as being very helpful and of course the old favorites (Vorpaks, Fred_Skinner, Fodder, Owen, Calc, and many, many others), but there are some people who just post "broken," "broken," "broken," when it's clear that they haven't even taken the time to figure out how things work.
QFE that and the rest of Iseult's post..
Things seem to have changed since I first registered here in March (didn't even bother reading the forums until feb/march '04).. It used to be positive and helpful here.
But lately it seems things have taken a turn for the worse. Too many personal attacks on those with different views.. those annoying "teh devs hate ranger" posts and so many conspiracy theories about locked threads that I don't even want to begin to rehash.
Seems like it started several months ago and hit a peak with the curb.
I don't know.. /shrug.

Almost everyone on this board deserves this award. While it sometimes gets a bit rough in here, it is usually a pleasure to read this board.

Through good and bad, I have always enjoyed visiting our boards. I think that all in all we have done an excellent job.
