Damn legs.

If you haven't fallen out of a semi-perfectly good aircraft, at night, at 800 feet, with equipment, with all of your buddies...

And cheers to anyone who has done the fruit cocktail in the barfbag trick to the Loadie and madehim puke.

The stuff we used to get away with.

Gimme time man, gimme time. I've been trying to get to jump school since '90. Had a slot with my unit in the Corps but it was based on my re-enlisting to which I said, "Hell no!"

That's going to be my first requested school. If I can get it before IOBC then all the better. Like I said, I also want Air Assault and Pathfinder if I can get it.

Honestly, Air Assault is just a giant butt pain interspersed with long walks. Slingloading is useful, rappeling is being overtaken by fast roping. (Stationed at Ft Crumble for 3 years and didn't have to go)

Pathfinder is cool. Hope ya like math.

Jumpmaster is the school tho.

I've done fast roping before in the Marines and loved it. Word has it that the Guard is starting up an air assault unit somewhere in my AO so to get in on that as a platoon leader someday would be sweet.

I'm not a big math fan, but I do like the pathfinder mission. Had a MSGT in Phase II of OCS that was one and I talked to him for some time about it. Couple that with Air Assault in a new unit and I might just be able to bring something to the table.

True story, I owe my butt to a good jumpmaster. I was fastroping with some buddies from 2D Radio Recon out in Camp Lejeune. We were roping out of a CH-53 which was being piloted by a Marine Major and a Navy LTJG. The Major was teaching the LT how to do rope insertions.

Well after two or three times with the major inserting us he turned it over to the LT to do it. The Major would come in a treetop level, find a clear spot then shoot to about 80ft so we could drop the rope. The LT tried this too but he screwed it up.

He found a clearing, then jumped to sixty feet and gave the all clear. I was first on the rope and my buddy Sgt McCoy was jumpmaster. As soon as I got to the rope the LT decided he wasn't high enough and jumped up another 20 feet. Had McCoy not grabbed my belt and kept me in, I would have fallen 80 feet out of the back of that helo.

After we all got on the ground, we were headed back to the '53 to reboard and the Major waved us off while he screamed at the LT for a few minutes. I had to really check my drawers as I thought I sharted myself.
