I have no problem with solo groups. If you can handle things yourself, why take along others? I have a friend that camps geno all by himself most of the day. He takes down acklay a couple of times a day.

Evil

They are only "needed" at the moment because buffs and armor have borked the combat system and allow people to take missions with big rewards that are intended for a full group to complete. But then again, I could be wrong.

as evil as they are, they are what keeps the economy going. If a person suddenly can only make 300k per buff session instead of like 1.5 million or more...the economy is going to hit a recession, and still the only rich people will be those who got rich before the CB.

I think there are a few unfortunate things thatmight put many Rangers into solo groups (I just hate mission terms myself, but hey got to make Monkey to make up for all the sinks in game due to power gamers/dupers)

  1. Thru first the Holocron drops at the cave then to the hologrind then to uber loot drops SOE has done what they originally set out not to do. They have created a stacker template, grinding, uber, loot camping mentality in much of this game. And they are working on trying to bring that back into balance but it will take a while.

  2. The current player mentality makes it hard to compete.

  3. If you learn to play the game will (like most Rangers I know of) the "mission" level is too low for our tactical abilites

  4. Current state of the spawn system

So as a Ranger I at lest find it hard to make non resource selling mokey and not bore myself by running low level missions.

On another note. One thing I dabbled in prior to my 6 month vacation was the entertainer musician line and I loved it. So my new alt is going musician andI find it very hard to get healing xp unless you are part of one of the 20 member bands in coronet. Most players look for the bid afk groups to get healed for 2 reasons, its quick and they dont beel bad about not tipping. So as a lone afk or live player it is a painfully slow process.

So to answer your question Calc (not a flame to SOE just an "is") I don't think I can say either way. It is just the state of the game at this time due to some planned and un-planned game play mechanics from SOE.

This is a very good question...

In my opinion, solo groups killed normal group play. Solo groups are nice though, they make the mission actually a challenge, and pay a lot of money (35k or so for enraged rancor missions). I'm kinda in the middle some, but leaning to the point that groups should be much more used. Why?

1. Our economy in the game, every server, is flooded beyond belief. People pay 10-12k for buffs, and maybe pay 5k for their bike, and 4k for travel to Dathomir. This is a total cost of ~20k. The first mission, the first, that you take pays 35k. In other words, you pay a very small amount and can easily make darn near a million before the buffs run out. With these powerful of buffs, and brandy, you don't even need armor many times.
2. When looking at other games and situations, I remember Jedi Academy. In JA I freaked out as I had a mutant rancor chasing me through that one level. I was freaked out, a jedi, and unable to kill the rancor or even put a dent in it...yet if I got too close, within 2 hits I was dead. With that in mind, I don't think anyone should be able to solo a rancor (except maybe a jedi knight or something).
3. This is an MMORPG, most people seem to forget this. People buff in the streets, tumble in the med centers, and solo nightsister elders. MMORPGS are about multiple people doing things as a team, look at FF11. In FF11, after level 10 you can still solo stuff, but if you want to level - no hope in soloing.

I do some solo group stuff, even against rancors - but for the hide/meat/bone. Rancors drop the largest amount of these, so i enjoy hunting them. When possible, though, I try to group with friends and have them and me hunting together. Same went with nightsisters, and elders. Small group going there and taking them out.

Groups make this game fun, therefore I don't really agree with solo groups much. The economy is one of the biggest reasons, since poor newbies can't buy anything to level up with. Their missions pay 300-600 credits, and they need to complete it without buffs since they cost so much.

I'm looking forward to the combat rebalance. I hope they nerf everyone, including me, to the point where any serious leveling needs to be done grouped. About 6-7 months ago I remember massive groups I was in going out to Endor and stuff to hunt. That was a lot of fun, and good XP. Now...exp is easiest soloing stuff.

We'll see though, who knows what the future holds.

As Calc says, this will disapear in the future.

Whatever your opinions about it, keep in mind that currently folks are able to solo much higher level critters than we are supposed to. The devs didn't originally intend for anybody save perhaps Jedi to solo rancors and all the other high cash missions we are soloing now.

As soon as the combat balance goes through weapons, armor, and pretty much everything in the game is going to be adjusted/nerfed. The days of solo grouping to do high cash missions for yourself will probably go away, and grouping will again be required for these types of missions.

In summary, I say enjoy it while you can.

I think solo-groups arefair if you return buffed from a High Level Dungeon and you want to make use of the extra time your buff lasts. In whatever other situation I dont like them, specially when there are 3 doctors spamming in the front of the SP with a row of 20 compo-clonic costumers making queues

Evil and Necessary

Ive been in solo groups so I could make some cash, harvest organics... etc.

The last one I was in, the group chat was fun, active and engaging.

I dont like them a lot, but they are useful to get the high level missions (grauls on dantooine with great wooly hide) I cant get them alone.

Oh well. I dont see anything inherently wrong with them, but once again, i dont like the fact that SOE caters to the grinder and not the player.
