Lycurgus, if you love the profession, you will LOVE the profession. Ranger, like any other profession, is what you make of it, and what you do with it, and how much you enjoy doing it. It sounds like you already feel the spirit of the Ranger profession. Use the tools as you see fit, and as are useful to you, and most of all - enjoy yourself.I don't think you will have any problem doing that - I thoughroughly (sp? arg) enjoyed your post.
Welcome to the profession!
I must agree with you Paks to this point. You love Ranger because of how you tend to play when you are a Ranger. If you are out for skills or perks there not there. If you want to brave the wilds and use your Noggin instead of Raw power then Master Ranger is for you. Otherwise take what you like and leave the rest.

i have been a ranger for little over a week and a half now. And i find it so very useful. I love it more every day. On tempest we have an excellent spawn of avian meat on Lok so i went out to train, explore and learn the terrain and fauna of Lok. I have a full bank account now and am almost done with the wayfaring now i need to go back and make some more phen traps and adhesive mesh for my next learning trip to Yavin.
Oh and i am a Riflewoman/Ranger Roleplayer so i have had a blast with my changing character and all the new possibilities.

All in one day!!
Thanks all for "pushing" me off the edge.
My character began as a Scout thenbegan Ranger (didn't understand SWG)...
And now has returned home...

someone should have mentioned this to you: being a ranger is addictive. once you start to live off the land and dont need to rely on buffs, and have a store house out in the middle of nowhere, it becomes VERY hard to drop ranger. Ive done it once, and when i unlock, ill be doing it again. Then my alt is going master ranger/rifle...see? its addictive.

First off, I would like to heartfully thank the Ranger Community. For the past week or 2 I've been having a hard time figuring what to do with my toon also. Its kinda funny because i was also going up the CH tree but although I love my pets, all they were really doing is costing me creds for high qual pet stims. I was tinkering with the idea of MR/MRM and some medic but was unsure and at a crossroads. Now after listening to the thread and seeing what Rangers think, but more importantly feel about their own profession, I can honestly say that tonight i will be on my way to my new professions, actually half there already
. And thanks toyou all I am getting the itchand all of a sudden feeelinga little sick and think i possibly might leave workearly, lol.
But truthfully thank you. The difficulty i was having in choosing which route to take professionwise, was starting to get on my nerves and actually started to impact my enjoyment while in game.

One of the best parts about being a Ranger is the constant draw of it. I've said this before, but we are the poet-warriors of the wilderness. While others can only cause senseless death, we use finesse and tactics to bring a creature down and skin it. We don't stack defense (technically, we can't, if we want Master Ranger), and we deal with skillpoints that often seem wrongly spent, but due to the community at large and the fact that we are a rare item in the game, there are a lot of us who will always be Rangers.
So many Rangers have said "this is a lifestyle, not a proffession" that we now view this as something you can be even without the skills. I know plenty of Lifestyle Rangers...people who were always good people and always played with finese that left our ranks. Being a Ranger is so much more than the skillpoints you spend. It's about playing in the best way. We've gotten a lot of new Rangers recently and if I could tell them anything, it's that being a Ranger is often more about how you play than the skills you can perform.
