Hi - this is what Thunderheart wrote regarding the spawns:

wickedHangover wrote:

This issue is in regards to walking for very long distances and not running into and random lairs. It seems that Lok was fixed, but Dantooine is a dead planet. I walked for 11,000 meters on Dantooine hoping for something to spawn and only ran into 5 random lairs. Yavin is getting pretty dead too.

It means that there are a lot of people on the planet. The more people there are, the less random spawns there are. These are adjustments the server makes automatically. If you are running shy of random spawns, you should go get a mission. The terminals will spawn additional lairs when this type of loading occurs...

This would explain a lot of what were seeing, but I also suspect that there is something else going on, as this might explain why the spawns are all but extinct on one planet (which is super busy), but not why they should be extinct on another planet (and one for which the /who search reveals at most three other names). But then again, I could be misunderstanding something here.

But yep, the lack of spawns pretty much invalidates a large portion of our skillset. There are three factors in harvesting resources: harvesting skill, finding creatures and killing them. Pretty much our harvesting skill level (as it currently stands) is negated by the comparatively longer time that it takes us to kill things. If I can harvest 100 units of something and someone else can harvest 50 units off of something, but kill it 2x faster, then we are essentially harvesting at the same rate. But where rangers do have an advantage over non-rangers is that we should be able to find things faster. That is, in ideal conditions, our skillset should give us a significant advantage over non-rangers because we should be able to find creatures much more efficiently in the wild. Yes, uber combat professions can kill things faster than us, but first they have to find them (or run missions for comparatively small lairs) , and in all but a few instances (ie., rancor valley), our skillset really gives us an advantage here.

But now that things aren't spawning anymore, we have to depend on missions to find the creatures we harvest, so this negates any advantage conferred to us by our /areatrack skills. I mean, you don't need any tracking skills to find a waypoint, and mission lairs are always going to have the same number of creatures in them (well, of maybe a 'boss' might spawn once every 12 hours).

I'm hoping that the 'new hardware configuration' up on TC-ahazi will address this issue, but I have a bad feeling that it is more geared to the pvp'ers.

rancor alley used to be swarming with nasties, nightsisters, spiders, uh... rancor...

and now, with all the people hunting there for xp grinding, its virtually dead now. The only way to spawn a good lair is in a solo group sadly.

Im moving my hunting operations to a more distant local soon.

No No, this is not the normal no spawns (quadruple negative). Talus has been borked since 10 went live. Apparantly one of the jedi quests requires you to kill a certain amount of sludge panthers, which reside there.

These are common spawns, rated about a 5.5, but no one has seen any on most servers for about a week.

This sucks really bad, Greater Sludge Panthers are my favorite pets. LuckilyI grabbed two a few weeks ago.

Rumor says the more players on a server the fewer random spawn across that server.

The more "mission spawn" generated, the fewer the random spawn. Think of the server having a finite limit of "creatures" to include players.

What makes me insane is people leaving missions undone because they can't do them. I saw a freaking master marksman attempt a level 100 mission. No armor, unbuffed. Whined when he died too. "But I am a master marksman!!!" To be nice, I did his mission as it was stepping on mine and he got paid, but I got the XP. Undone missions sometimes hang around for a while, taking the place of random spawn. How long is up in the air, but I swear a tortur lair (mission as it was labeled) hung around on my server for 2 days til I got tired of looking at it and took it out.

I run into this problem frequently. I found a motherlode for avian one morning - but as the day progressed the spawns stopped as more people got on.

As an aside, I was the sole player on Endor the other morning. When I left I gota message that my leaving caused the "planet channel" to cease to exist. I mean, Endor is outta the way, but having a planet to myself...???

I should know this by now, but how do I tell if the lair was placed there randomly or it's someone's mission? "Invisible" lairs (where creatures congregate in one area and regenerate when their numbers thin, but there's no visible lair) are random, I know, but what about the ones where there is a visible lair?

I've been hunting Carn meat at Yavin the last few days, and I could swear I placed Klikniks, Crystal Snakes and, shrug, even Bats on the Endangered species boards, as last night and the night before I had a REALLY hard time finding any of them. I was netting in 20-25k meat per buff session (3-3.5 hrs) and those two nights I netted in 10 and 7k, respectively.

My guess is that the Geo Caves were really packed, and the spawn rate outside the caves was slowed down to compensate for all the spawns that were recycling inside... not sure, but I found it frustrating to say the least (specially when I'm fulfilling a contract that pays 100cpu of that meat ).

Ah well, hopefully they'll "fix" this spawn engine if we keep complaining Calc?

I have seen this on radiant on rori... Its not a to many people problem (theres no one on rori mabey 5-10 players). But I walked halfway across the planet and didnt see a single spawn so I left and went to endor there I could close my eyes and throw a trap and it would hit a nasty it seems so crowded. Again I dont see many players there either.

Well the problem wont become to huge a problem because Worse Case scenario, rangers and scouts wont be able to find spawns to harvest from, and Doctors wont get their meat. If doctors dont get the meat they cant make buffs. The price for buffs will rise until there are very few buff packs left. at which point when the galactic economy will falling apart because people with uber 733t templates cant solo everything in the game. The devswould finaly step in to fix it so. Worse Case scenario........

in my opinion, i think the devs stole hardware from rori, talus to help the bandwidth of dantooine and dathomir.

so no spawns for rori or talus other than near the player cities.

i dont know why its so hard to spawn wild lairs. there should be a relative danger when traveling imo. i would be in favor of losing bikes altogether if it meant having something to kill heh.

mounts should stay in as they are just fine for transport specially with the amount of shuttleports now on the planets.

This statement by Thunderheart is very short-sighted. Is he not aware of the fact that getting missions doesn't solve the problem entirely? If I am on a planet where there is only one creature that drops the resource that I need (for example paralopes dropping Wooly hide on Talus), I may not be able to get missions for that mob due to either not being quite skilled enough or being too skilled. Not to mention the fact that you cannot get missions for certain mobs anymore (such as sludge panthers). I can't count on the system spawning the type of lair I need in addition to whatever specific mission lair I get.

And another thing - His statement about how fewer random spawns is caused by the planet having a lot of people on it is baloney. Why, then, does Tatooine have more spawns than Talus when Tatooine regulary has a much higher population of players than Talus? If what he said were true then you would think that Talus would have a lot more spawns that Tatooine since very few players hang around Talus.

Geez, Thunderheart, give me a break! SOE needs to upgradetheir equipment, thin out the white-named non-interactable NPCs, and increase the random mob population.

I have notcied a big difference the last few nights of hunting. I'm about to give up on dathomir tonight, and try endor...I *has* to be better.

I love hunting out in the *wild* and dealing with big lairs, stuff that you just can't get with running endless missions. If I wanted to run missions...I'd go pure combat, Kinda kills many aspects of the ranger profession.
