Thread: Mask scent check fails aggro creatures. This is a mistake.

Just to throw in another "Me too", my experiences have been the same since the patch with +90 camo. Since the patch,

1) I have yet to get a message that I've been detected. Mask scent always drops after running out of time.

2) But, I get attacked by things constantly with no notification that mask scent is doing anything other than the icon that never drops.

3) I've been attacked by a non-aggro creature once.

The old version was at least more communicative about what was happening if you paid attention to the XP messages and detection messages.

i use mask scent all the time now, because it works. i dont care if i dont get xp from it - but it is working fine for me. have had it break once for me and i still got the message. seems odd everything is so different for everyone. i have +90 in camo.

I don't have hard statistics to back up my feeling that it's less effective-- but that's been my general experience.

Example: One of my routine hunts are Rori deranged squalls. They're slow, so I tend to bleed them a whole pack at a time and run them in circles over hills until they drop. No problem-- except that since the patch, I now tend to aggro nearby mobs while running the squalls in circles. This is with /maskscent on. Leave it off, and the same technique doesn't aggro.

I find the frequency of 'random' attacks has increased. No 'maskscent fail' message, just sudden violence from mobs that used to leave me be.

Again, I don't have any substantive metrics to back this up, but since the patch, I feel like the cameras have been rolling on "When Tortons Attack!" (airs Sunday on Naboo Cable channel 39).

They stated this would happen in the patch. The skill is supposed to fail at lower levels and it does. When it does you could aggro something due to that. This skill works flawlessly for me.

Well, I have not gotten a "You have been decected" since the patch, but I sure have been aggroed while the indicataor is on. Now my indication is some Red Charging me on the radar. Sigh.

So whats they point of being a Bothan Master Ranger if you don't know if your maskscent is even working?

Okay, so nothing less than Master Ranger is low level? read the **edit** threads. Everyone posting here is a **edit** Ranger with camo of at least 50 (with no Wayfairing trained). They did not state in the patch that you will NEVER EVER get an indication that mask scent is working and that you will NEVER EVER get any xp for it. Nor did they say that you would NEVER EVER get a message saying that you were detected.

I bet it's not working for you. You are just not getting aggro'd, but not because of Mask Scent.

With all due respect, I am walking through lairs of extremely high level creatures on Dathomir, Dantooine, Endor. Before the patch this was not possible. I would inevitably get detected and attacked.

With all due respect, how can you post on the Ranger board and say that this is working the way it should be, that LOW levels will get detected. There are Master Rangers posting on this thread and others saying that it doesn't. We are ALL rangers, I would not classify our camo skills as "low levels". I guess it is the rest of us that are wrong.

Ok I don't have a problem with possibly being aggroed if Mask Scentfails and I amdetected. I don't have a problem with not getting xp when it succeeds. The problem I have is that as far as I can tell, Mask Scent never drops (I don't get detected) yet mobs still notice me, stalk me, and in some cases aggro me - all with Mask Scent going strong.

Pyradius, I don't think this is how it is supposed to work. If it is obvious that a mob is stalking me, then it obviously noticed me. Why, then, did I not get a message telling me that Mask Scent failed and I was detected?

Since the patch I have been notified ONCE that my mask scent failed... and get this, it happened when there wasn't an animal mob within 128 meters of me (there were some Selonians nearby and I wasjust enteringthe Imperial Base on Talus which consists of humanoid and droid mobs only).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is what people are talking about when they say Mask Scent isn't working.

The "Mask Scent" feature is a liability now. It used to be that when I use Mask Scent, I would only get attacked after a creature detects me. But now, even with mask scent, I get attacked anyway!?

At least before, I had warning. Once I knew I was detected, I would proceed with caution. But now, it's almost like a practical joke. Mask Scent would never fail, but I get attacked 9 out of 10 times I hunt creatures even WHILE mask scent is ON.

Why bother have Mask Scent then?

There is in general a more agressive creature AI. This change was made regardless of any Scout changes that took place.

Getting detected by a creature used to break mask scent. This would cause not only the initial creature to detect you, but any other vicious creatures within aggro range would also detect you.

Now, the creatures still detect you (and unfortunately don't tell you as this was tied into mask scent breaking) but don't break mask scent. This makes it so the majority of creatures that did not detect you will still not aggro. If you happen to get close enough to a creature that did detect you, you are unaware and get attacked.

  • Attempts at scent masking against creatures should be more successful.
  • Scent masking should be much less likely to break against large groups of creatures now.
  • There is a chance that a creature that detects you while you are scent masked will attack you.
  • Improved mask scent's ability to make a creature ignore the player

  • 1. It is more successful (I think, because mine never drops except when it wears off) against yellows.

    2. Same as 1

    3. I, for one, have no problem with this.... if it ONLY happens if you are detected. Right now, I get aggro whether my mask scent drops or not (usually not - see 1)

    4. Aggro creatures are noticing me even with my mask scent up. They still stalk and attack at the same rate as they do when I am not using mask scent.

That is why I don't think it's working completely right. Some parts are working (again, I think, since we get no status report on it), but I don't think the part about having a better chance at being ignored by aggros is working.
