Armor cost 0 for me. Armor Smith in guild. Likes me when i hunt what he needs. most of the time i run acroos it while hunting for other things. Go figure. Multi task hunting.
Ham cost Verry Little. I seem to be able to afford buffs and such. Guess my contracts like me and want to pay me well.
Why use armor.....Guess point blank reason is I like to have all the toys. ARR ARR ARR!!!! AndI look so good in it.
oh AND I DONT Do Missions. I got the the area and track my prey.Like a real RANGER would. (or my vision of one) To each there own.

If you read the mission stories you are not actually "running missions" you are taking down dangerous beasts that are terrorizing the country-side. I think that is a fine and RP thing for Rangers to do. We don't necessarily hate city people after all - we just prefer to not go there. When they wander into wild territories and get into trouble it is only Rangerly to help them out of it.

The present day ranger runs missions...for tourists largely, so real ranger is and not is...again....a matter of opinion. In Africa the rangers on safari know the general locale of where an animal is, the mission terminals just refine that theory if you will. Your not anyless a ranger if you ask bob tonight where the kimo's are....so you know where to head to at dawn....in other words that was a bad pot shot, and unfounded, and ignorant. (stating my opinion so its clear to all).
I sometimes do, sometimes don't, wear armor. The FTP team on shadowfire can confirm my usual outfit is more for looks, more for....lol. Comp boots, pants, and gloves. Dark green on forested planets, etc. I green and black camo desert crawler with int/warcry, a green work shirt with 15 camo/maskscent, a belt with 4 mel def/15 stun, and either no headwear or a comp helm. On dath or endor or yavin i get buffs, brandy/canapes and blue milk. Lok i go food buffed for buffs, elsewhere none.
A word to the wise I would think. When combat rebalance finally does come, who do you think is gonna be ready, wanted in groups for excelling and firm knowledge of HOW to play his skills? JB. If you go buffed, armored to the teeth all the time, you don't really require any skill, and when combat rebalance comes out, you will be standing there, hat in hand.

My hope is that after the combat balance tactics like JBMat employs will be more necessary. And if that happens I think only a few of us who actually still practice and use tactics will be any good at it.
As for armour... I get laughed at for not wearing it... "What? No armour? No Buffs? You must be mad!" lol.
If I get a contract for a large quantity of meat that is obtainable on the "adventure" planets I will don my composite and get buffed just to speed up the time-to-delivery. Other than that... I wear an ubese shirt, ubese gloves, ubeseboots, and +25 med pants. Unless I am taming creatures then I wear my taming suit
When i was imperial I used to wear all black, white,or grey colours.
Cheers,

No buffs, no armor may be nice for ranged Rangers, but us melee-ers have to use different tactics. For instance, I can't throw a pdart at something and then use the terrain as I run around kiting it. I have to get up there right in a creature's face to do damage.
And for the record, I don't use armor either (too expensive, I can't afford it; plus I just don't like how it looks), but I do use buffs if I'm going out on a long hunt, especially since I'm still levelling fencer. And even though I use buffs, I know what creatures I can take on with buffs and I know what creatures I can take on without buffs.
Finally, even though I get buffedto go out and hunt, that doesn't mean I don't use tactics. The buffs are just a facet of my tactics. I use a variety of special moves designed to take creatures down. So, go ahead, look down on me and hold me in contempt because I use buffs, but try hunting and making a living off it as a mid-level melee fighter first, without buffs.

I prefer Krayt Bone Armour myself as a neutral standpoint but i think id go this ranger look even if i was still rebel.
Thats combined with a mix of light brown and dark green clothing additions here and there (I dont wear the helment or the bracers.).
This isa pic of me: Thor
But as for making me look factionally aligned im not sure what i would suggest. If you are looking for imperial stuff the obvious choice would be scout armour however i see an imperial ranger as a sort of 'special opps' sort of thing who operated outside of imperial control and protocol. So advancing on this id probly go for a green padded armour selection of pieces combined with brown and ahelmet of some kind
