Its worth saying that though I made master swordsman today and am 4244 on the ranger tree, I haven't levelled anything. I've had a blast and along the way these qualifications and skills popped up. So when I ask for practical uses for camps, I mean things I can use when enjoying myself, whether it be inflicting a death of 1000 cuts on a rancor or skinning a bantha.

Calculus uses his to keep his bank full. Why would filling your safety deposit box with camps be a source of fun? Maybe there's a deeper meaning I've missed here.

Jonn23 uses his to pull the chicks. Sheesh - really - c'mon - an AV-21 is way sexier than a camp. However, my personal favorite is to buy on of htose 200k entertainers outfits and give it to a novice entertainer. Now that's how to get noticed. Of course if the master rangers camp had double beds...

Vorpaks confirms that if you want to combine ranger and creature handler, camps are indeed ok-ish. We can all gloss over the fact that the same activities can be carried out without camps. Best case - the camp doesn't slow you down other than the time you spend making it.

MNHawkFan uses camps to get camping xp. Think he's close to my level of puzzlenment as to what these silly things are for.

Icarus-uk has spent 6 weeks camping to get camping xp. Thats countless hours and about 20 UK pounds. No practical use of the camps or camping xp for him or me in his post.

aeuralis used his for first time in 4 months to get a mind buff. First practical use so far.

darmokVtS has no use for camps.

frightwig can use his to flatten land. No need to go in though. Camps can be used for fishing. Again, it doesn't help with fishing - just doesn't stop you. Fishing also gives you camping xp. Neat.

JBMat uses his to make traps. Traps are great. But, does having a camp makes a contribution to making traps? Is that what the crafting station is for? Personally I make my traps when I need them and looking about for a spot to pitch a camp seems pointless.

Phenix1050 uses his to ensnare n00bs. With respect, this is using a camp as a trap so moving the whole converation to a different dimension. I've got my trapping xp and anyway have yet to find a market for newbie hides. Good thinking though.

Summary, camping gives you camping xp. Once you have reached master ranger, you forget the whole thing as you no longer need camping xp. Except for the odd occasion (like weddings) where a marquee is called for.

No-one has any idea what a food crafting station is doing in a ranger camp.

So if I want to be master ranger, I need to find a camping macro that runs over-night. Gotta be doable. Its first time I've had to step outside the natural order of swg but there is no way I will pay my monthly subscription fee to do things I don't enjoy. Realistically no game is perfect so I can live with macro-ing a small part of it.

Thanks all - especially for the humour.

I really do use mine when crafting stim packs.

Oh sure, you could go buy them, but with the low level of Medic that I have, I just whip out a few stim a's.

The only problem with this, is that it is only useful when I am un -buffed. When you are buffed a stim a is nearly worthless.

I also have used them as a "wife-pleaser". Most people do not realize they can be used for this. For instance. I have been buffed, and out fighting. Now I have 100+ wounds in my three main bars. Instead of running out and getting them healed real quick, I throw up a campl (or 2 or three) and waste an hour letting my wounds heal this way. During that time I check on the wife, play a game of cards, or just watch TV with her for a while. She loves it, and I get my wilderness XP.

By the way, tonight I should max this bar out, I am quite close now!

I use my camps for:

Smaller Scout camps
Pulling vehicles, droids and pets out before going whomping or fleeing the scene.
Chucking up a quick RV while some careless groupie whose got themselves killed makes their way back from the shuttle.

Larger Ranger Camps
In-field crafting.
Marshalling groups "Everyone, back to the camp... that's the HUGE BIG ONE over there..."
Healing up, being healed, resting and relaxing.

Doing my emails, waiting for people coming out for training, taking phone calls...

Oh, and "Reasons Why A Camp Is Better Than An AV21"

You can't dance in a car
You can't heal in a car
You can't make clothes in a car
You can't make food and drink in a car
You can't seat more than one person in a car

err... there's more, I'm sure

oh yeah... and the HTFB is rarer than the AV21!!

Its a little known fact that camps are great for fending off high level agressive monsters . I you find yourself in need of a pause to heal or regen you ham bars drop a High Tech Field Base , and stare awestruck as them krayat dragong and rancors run away from the strange and terrifying warbelling noises and strobing lights emitted by your camps crafting station .

its true coz i said it is

i am 6

ps it also saves you carrying all those resources around that seam to fuill up your inventory . Just craft camps and drop them to use up resources and free up space in your inventory.

This is how I use my camps:
First run away from any town, city or village... to the wilderness. Then track some Humbabas or Rogue Bagerasets (anything that is 'yellow' or 'white'), kill'em all (harvest hides and bones, and mayde some meat) until you have no traps or your healt is down. Set up a camp craft a pile of traps and some stimp packs (just in case). Call your pet a few times to create 'visitors'. When your healt is back to normal... start everything from the beginning.

I repeat this until my BF is high, then it is time to go back to nearest city and have a drink in the local cantina and watch those lovely ladies

Terraforming!! Ever find an NPC you need to talk to, or a creature you want to kill, but they're stuck in a tree or rock and you can't seem to access it? Drop a camp around it to flatten the land and get rid of the trees and it "releases" the creature.

That's what I find them pretty handy for.. but in your case, if I understand correctly, you're looking to find uses for camping to gain XP without grinding. (/applaud)

1) Have you finished your trapping line? If not, here's an decent way to to get survival XP. Craft all of your traps manually, while sitting in a camp. DON'T buy crates to finish the trapping line. Grab some accaragm and plan a "trapping" hunt without buffs. Find a place to sit up camp near where you'll be using the traps. Craft as many as your pack will hold. When your pack is full, stay in the camp and spend some time placing them into empty slots on your toolbar. When done, down the accaragm and disband the camp. Hopefully you'll have maxed out the XP for that camp. Now run out and "practice" (pretend that you're not grinding) your trap throwing on whatever you like. When your accaragm or traps run out, set up another camp and repeat. While you're crafting more traps, which give you survival XP, you'll be healing the wounds you got from trapping/fighting. Keep repeating until you've eventually finished your trapping line. Just remember, don't ever buy traps since you don't want to lose out on Survival XP by crafting them.

2) If you hear of a good fish spawn, go out and look for 5* spot with low vegetation. Try to set up a camp near the edge of the water so that when the camp is created it's sitting in water. If you can't do that, you can still fish on the edge of your camp. If you have to run into and out of it to cast your line or catch your fish, that's good too. It gives you more "visitors".
Another bonus, like number 1.. Fishing gives you survival XP.

3) while you're doing any of the above two choices, don't forget to craft your own camps.. make some extra ones and stick them in your backpack. Again, extra survival xp

Hope any of this helps.. or at least makes sense.

two more (coming late to this thread as usual) -

1) you can craft and deploy a basic camp in less than 15 seconds, so instead of standing there and waiting for your vehicle or droid to appear, make a camp. I myself carry crates of basic camps for this reason.

2) camps, esp. the high-end ranger ones serve as great meeting places. If your group is conveningsomewhere in the wilderness, a high-tech field base makes a great beacon - you can see them from a long way away, etc.... It also keeps the more ADD-prone in your group from wandering too far afield while you wait for the stragglers to show up.

But yep - camps need to add more to the game...

I was being sarcastic...I don't currently use camps, so my extras are sitting in my bank taking up space.

Ditto and oh so true. My last ditch attempt at keeping group cohesion is usually "see if you can get the holochess to work..." I always wondered if this is what "working as intended" meant.

Had a "Camo Emergancy" last night while hunting pickets and actually poped up a camp (had to find the right MSE holding my crates) and then a HTFB after I found out I didn't have a crate of Dant Camo made (going to have to address that). Other then that.... not thinking of anything... nup... pretty much nuttin' else...

I am working on making a macro where I can pop out pets and droid in a hurry... don't know how to call a droid/pet via slash commands yet...

Yes I missed the comment on your post. After buff runs out, a heal in a camp can be great. Also, I always carry a camp to cover those situations where you are happily hammering a lair and suddenly this Tusken Raider comes along and whacks your Mind pool.
