Thread: Ranger Only class stuck on the PvE side of the Galaxy

I have to disagree on some points with the initial post.

Rangers are not useless in PvP. We are scouts first and foremost. Go in covert, scout out the area. Areatrak tells me which players, by name, are in the area and how far off they. Known bad guys in one area means a target, go check it out. If you are grouped with an overt and he draws or initiates fire, you can then return fire. Shooting is really nice, fun even. But the intelligence you can gather can win a battle. Sorta hard to hide from areatrack too, now ain't it.

How many Rangers don't have at least a pistol/rifle/carbine speciality in their resume ? Ok, lets forget the poor demented few who think pointy sticks and kung fu grip can take me out. (Be quiet Mylar, I already got a DB on a TK master in PvP, so neener)I am a pistoleer and a rifleman, and have boxes in artisan and medic also. It can be done, its not hard. There is your PvP skill. Supplement with true combat skills if that is what you want, or go and get some giant pets as a CH, and be ready to get more when they get wasted.

Pets and traps - agree, but --- unless and until they work on the animal v ST problem, we are stuck with no traps on pets, which sux. I had to back outta a duel, knowing my traps were useless while knowing full well in the wild, I would eat this beasties lunch and not even flinch.

Not bragging, but I have been in plenty of PvP fights, duels and faction warfare. I hold my own, kick some butt now and then, and have had my butt kicked too, so it evens out. But first and foremost, my role in is as a scout. Where the enemy is, how many of them are there, what they are doing, that comes first. Then once the shooting starts, I can shoot it out using my other skills.

And yes gang, I am prior military. I do not run and gun, I pick my cover, my targets, and prepare. Prior Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance.

Awesome ideas! I would love to use my traps on people's pets. That would be great. Maybe it would balance things out a bit. the CH's would think twice before using their pets recklessly.

If you are ranger you can cammo your wife. She'll have the same chance of being detected as you.

Gill, please read my post. Where in the post did I say or imply Rangers should be the best in PvP? Um, nowhere.

I just said let us use some skills in PvP and let our bases last so that we don't have to stay in them during combat.

Thanks for listening,

Hook:

I have completely forgotten about the Ranger trapping line. Neither traps work and will be replaced. Personally I use two traps 80% of the time - phecnacine and glowire. Adhesive mesh not bad but expensive to make with two charges.

I think that a Rangers strongpoint in PvP should be his abiltiy to take down pets better than anyone. So well in fact that they should have a slight penalty in PvP against other players. This gives us a defined role in PvP.. the guy who gets the pet out of the way.

Our creature to hit bonus should mean something. I also think that maybe it shouldbe moved out of the Tracking line if Bounty Hunters plan to use this skill for free tracking. I know it goes well there but there's a problem when a Bounty Hunter is a better animal hunter than a Master Ranger and can kick butt in PvP too.

Why should our aim be worse against humanoids just because we (should) have a bonus to hitting creatures? I dont understand the logic in that.

If I am a Rifleman and want to be a Ranger as well, I would be pretty angry if my Ranger training penalized my rifle training.

"Daddy, what's that bad man doing to my (Star Wars)?"

"Son, that bad man is (SOE), and he's **edit**ing your (Star Wars)."

There are things that will be coming down the line that will give Rangers some PvP usefulness. The Tripwire traps will work on all Humanoids including PCs. And they are working on getting creature traps to work on CH pets. Also there is mutterings about some type of Ranger made Temp HQ.

If we just get our Traps to work on CH pets, then that alone will give Rangers a useful Niche in PvP.

wow I loved the post Ypiana. I myself dont get into PVP but if i had to I gots lots of carbiner skills so no probs there. I think that traping pets is a must. I read the post Holo put up about the new traps /yay I was thinking that sonic pluse and flash bomb dont work ever. Has anybody else gotten them to work? As far as camps I would love in ranger camps to have a mini game in camp it would give you something to do in camp becides watching tv. Oh!!!! traps i forgot I would also like to have a decoy trap. You chuck it into a mob and thay attack it. CH send in there pets to attract the mobs so why cant we have something. As it is now the only cridder that dont see me is the one im shooting at. It should not last too long so you would have to stop shooting and thow another one. I not saing that I should ever beable to use them to kill a lair of Mt squills but a rew dark blue cons will incap me quick i can take 4 or 5 out but lots of time im looking at my eye lids for 80 secs. You would have to be on your toes to make sure it worked out for you. Back the to the camp thing. I have looked at master ranger and you get nothing for it. We should get a fort camp. With walls that nothing can come thur. Just one entrace so if something wanted in thats the way that have to come in. Make it so you cant but perhaps once or twice in a day? Also that would take a long time to make say 15 mins in your craft kit? Also they should have a core that can be destryed and you fort will get destroyed. Last thing is trophy command. You kill a Kryat dragon why cant a master ranger take its head to hang on the wall. you click on it and see where you were and what date. what to you all thing? I must say however I really love the new changes made I am glad and excited again to be a ranger thats all I wanted to be at the launch. the new traps should rock much love to all the other Rangers out there. Very nice post and very nice ideas...even though we suck and PvsP <least I keep hearing it> I am still going to be a ranger, I can't wait to explore some of the cool worlds and see things some ppl can only see in large groups.

even my wife is getting the camo tree so she can follow me around. think she might be the first Dancer/Ranger in the game

for me I am going Ranger/Carbineer/Creatuer handler I can't wait to have fun, I am almost a novice ranger, good luck to all and I will be here till the end.
