Thread: Harvesting droids having a negative impact on harvest per time period.

HI folks,

I do quite a bit of meat harvesting/selling myself and the conclusions I have come to are these:

The droid is worthwhile if you are killing big game. If you are killing things that give you 20 meat quickly, don't bother. If you are killing things like enraged rancs that give you 300 meat, bother! The modifier is percentage based and on the larger corpses can get you a significant amount of extra harvest. The other time I am really a fan of the droid is when I am not grinding out specific missions. When I am just wandering around hunting for rare babies and killing what I come across, the droid rocks. Target>Kill>Droid Harvest>Move on.

The call time on droids is annoying, but not nearly as annoying as the call time on CH pets

BTW,

I am MRifle/MCH/Mscout and going to 3 in the tracking tree. I am hoping it will help find rare babies and the extra meat is just gravy.

Yes, that droids are much more useful for ranged attackers really makes sense. I know for a fact that it isn't for a melee character on the typical targets you have to kill for herb or avian meats (why does this always seem to spawn on noob planets anyway?). I just AoE and harvest between each "spawn". Also for big game I can see them being worthwhile.

The main issue to me is still that a low / medium level scout get significantly better benefit both percentage wise and units per kill. The bonus from the droid should be percentage wise above your normal harvesting. Using my example above, I should have gotten perhaps 30% more meat or 85 units instead of 65. This would indeed make droids useful even to melee characters.

Now here's a thought - do you gain anything on using veghash as a master or xx4x ranger when using a good droid? I should try this out - perhaps using the droid could be a foodsaver. :-P

I want to hunt wild except that it often simply doesn't work. Many planets never seem to spawn wild entities...

I've been playing a Wookiee that's a Rifleman/CreatureHandler/Tracker template, and I've both used and forgone the little harvesting droid I have.

If I'm down in the dirt using Conceal Shot on some dangerously aggressive MOBs around a lair, then after I drop one I'll send in the little droid to harvest it so I don't have to put myself in danger.

If I'm trying to maximize my harvesting efficiency, I'll find a creature lair where creatures are weak enough for me to kill in one or two AOE shots. I'll send my pet in to attack the lair, while I lay prone at 60ish meters, and when all the critters attack my pet or heal the lair, they all bunch up in prime position for me to nail them all with a cone attack (using Flushing Shot 2 right now). Most will go down in two shots, and sometimes one shot, butsometimes three if I end up hitting three different HAM pools. Regardless, my pet keeps chewing down the lair, I keep mowing down the MOBs as they spawn, and when it's all over, there's this large ring of corpses around where the lair used to be, and I can just walk up and harvest them all personally. I stand near the circle, target a corpse, hit my harvest hotkey for whatever resource I'm after, and move to the next nearest corpse to work my way through the pile. All of my specific harvest hotkeys have the /loot command in them, so I won't miss any CDEFs from bolle bol stompers or swirl prongs!

I guess I don't really use my little harvester droid for the bonus (it's only +17 anyway). I just use it when it's safer or more convenient for me to send a droid out than to go to the corpse myself.

But based on my testing, the "total bonus" maxes out if you're high level ranger. I.e I might max out anyway without veghash. I should do some tests on this.
