Thortac, don't get me wrong, SWG definitely has staying power and the franchise name to keep it around for a long, long time. It may eventually outlive UO, EQ, etc over time.
The reason I think it's hard to say there will be a SWG 2 is that only one MMO has ever come out with a Version 2.0 -- Everquest. Well, then again, both being an SOE product, maybe we might see a SWG 2, I'll give you that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I see an "anyMMORPG 2" as more of a marketing tool than anything else. My example of Ultima Online's failed "new" version of their game was a good one. They decided, both times they tried, that putting money and resources into a completely new version of basically the same game, was better spent on just further development and expansion packs of Ultima Online. (Whether that was a good decision is debatable)
Yet, Ultima Online is still going strong and seems to do fairly well with each new expansion. (definitely doesn't have the numbers SWG or EQ has, though)
Think of it this way, the CURB will completely change combat.. JTL did something no other MMO did, combining FPS combat with existing RPG gameplay. Both could be seen as a completely different version of SWG than the original. What exactly warrants a "2" of any MMO, unless it's mainly just a marketing tool. Can't expansion packs serve the same purpose of improving gameplay and adding changes? That seems to be the route of all other MMOs, rather than coming out with a Version 2.0.
I may be debating something unimportant here, but just making an observation about other MMOs..

Yeah no probs hehe, i see what you mean.
Expansion packs will work and no doubt will be a massive avenuecalled upon in the future. Just nothing beats a new and fresh game, something that will be fresh on the scene and something that can be bought out the box and be played right away.
Sure there will be packs coupled with the original game to get new people in, but it will never be the same as getting a totally new product out in the open, and the obvious exposure that comes with an mmo launch.
I still see a long road for swg, expansion packs are a massive part of an mmo, however, i believe one day, making an swg2 will be an easy decision to be made. A fresh slate, a new start, a new system.

Owen hit the nail on the head. I've been here since launch, and I'll be here till the last server cluster goes down. And if there is a SWG 2....you can bet I'll be there.

I've been here since the original SWG site went live and plan on being here, God willing, until SWG shuts down. I have a great time playing in a galaxy far, far away...

oh and yeah...I'll be kicking around for a while. Been a bit bummed with the game recently, but I know that I'll come back around, like I always do. The second I get a new fan and heatsink (ordered from newegg today) I'll be back playing. too much stuff in the game to do (such as finishing the antarus academy for hunting and fishing. If there's a SWG2, you can bet your bottom dollar i'll do my best to be in the beta and I'll be a ranger from the start.
and yeah...i'll be bothan.
I'd actually really like to see a starwars MMO based in the old republic. one of the biggest problems with this game is that as you add new stuff, you have to adhere to cannon. Put it in the Old Republic and you'e got a lot more options.

A) Nope, not at all.
Surprised how little SWG has moved on though *g*
I was going through some old screenshot from Beta and stumbled upon one I snapped when the NPC faction spawn was all screwy and you literally couldn't see the horizon for all the bases. Just thought, "Hey, pretty much how it looks now".

Me too, although ill be hoping its soe that makes it, just for the fact that they will be able to learn from their mistakes in this game.
If somehow soe and obsidean could make a kotor online game, that would be the best thing ever. So much freedom and so many opportunities. Even if we jumped into the times of Xar Kun and all that it would be great. Although the Mandalorian wars would be a perfect place to base a game.
