Not to be negative, but..

This is why I stopped believing what devs post, outside of publish/patch notes.

Until it shows up in a publish note, under Profession: Ranger, it's just more "we want to make "insert content/profession here" more fun and engaging talk..

I can understand all that.

But, this is a hope post, and I wanted to share with all the people who were feeling down about the profession.

And the notion that we mightget Planet Specific attributes gave me a chill (the good kind). I think that would be a real interesting path to explore.

I guess the Moderators won't delete old threads unless people do more than read them.

The mods don't delete necroed posts...they simply remove the 'new' posts and allow the old thread to resort itself by date.

For example:

  1. A thread has an original date of Jan 2004.

  2. Someone posts to it now, so the latest date on the thread is today, and it gets bumped.

  3. The thread is reported (usually the only way a necro post gets 'fixed.'

  4. The mods delete all the posts that are dated since the post was bumped (I mean after a year)

  5. The thread now has the Jan 2004 date and sorts back to where it originally was.

Now THAT's more than you ever wanted to know about necro posts!

For the record, very, very rarely are necro posts valid. They are usually made to say 'see how bad things are, this still hasn't changed,' or 'see, I told you so.' If it's imporant enough to bring back up, one can start a new thread, with new content that contains a link to the old thread (rather than bumping the old one).

Good point..

The Volsted's fishing guide gets necroed a lot, but I don't think there's much harm in that. Actually most guides seem to be harmless to necro (just my uninformed opinion) , as long as the original post still has information which is still accurate. The Force Sensitive FAQ still has occasional new posts..(and I think the original post itself is updated occasionally). The Hero quest thread in the Game guides section is another.. Those are all pretty old now.

News, opinion or dev posts are bad though.. It's just confusing. People forget to look at the date and they suddenly think it's new information if they never read it when it was first posted.

That's why I just linked the holocron post. I can guarantee if someone necroed it, several people would reply to it as if it were some new thread related to a ranger revamp or something.

I just hope I will grow old enough to see the day our revamp goes live

Not wishing to damp your enthusiasm (cos heck knows we need some these days) but some of us have grown older and more cynical reading things like "following the CU, which will go to beta after the holiday, the following professions will get tehir much needed and long awaited revamps... Smuggler, Squad Leader and Ranger..." or words to that effect.

It's sufficiently positive to make folk go "OK, I'll give it till just after the holiday..." but vague enough that the dev team can go "ah, we never said which holiday, or how long after and yes, those profs WILL get attention, but first we need to fix the FUBARs we introduced with CU to half a dozen other profs..."

Cynic? Me? You bet.

Yet curiously positive about 'the game' as a whole. More or less.

I am very hopeful about a revamp honestly, i hope that they listen to us and put together a profession for rangers that is not just scout x 2.

but i dont want to get my hopes up honestly.

its just kinda sad really.

I never played any other mmorpg than this one, and i did so because it was different than the rest. Now it is being molded into something that is just like everything else.

that kinda annoys me honestly. However, i will grow, learn adapt and change and hopefully this game will grow into something better than it is.

Oh and:

"which I took to be really good because it was evidence to me that the devs are concerned with our prof. and have been listening."

How can they ignore the corr sending pms and reports there way everyday and making references to the ranger revamp in nearly every post i make in the corr boards

hehe - I figure you and JB are playing good-cop bad-cop over on the correspondant forum.

As for our 'revamp' - I don;t think it's going to make everyone happy - half the time we can't even seem to agree among ourselves what our profession will be, but the devs did seem very comitted to it. Of course, uncertain the future is....
