"Plus, I would rather as for a million dollars and get $10 than ask for $10 and get $0.10. "

If the developers completely veto the modular camp system, we will know that the idea is unattainable.

After that, we can start working on another system that fits the restrictions provided.

But if the developersdo decide it is attainable... * drools *

I don't think this is a "small" vs. "big" discussion. It's more a matter of how the changes are focused. I think there's a benefit to simplicity. Just because its a simpler implementation, doesn't automatically mean that its of less value. Similarly, a more complex solution doesn't necessarily translate to higher value. So let's let these threads play out for a bit and see what happens and save the value judgements on the approach till later. We're already seeing ideas in both threads that could benefit the other. We may just end up with a hybrid that's better than the sum of the two threads.

Have to agree with the statement of getting our current camping system working as it should FIRST, and then work on new visions. Not to sound like a whiner, or ungrateful, or a flamer, but the devs are talking to much these days about adding/changing things, when the original is not that bad but doesn't even work right. Maybe they don't want to spend time on a broken system, but it seems, that's what we have so fix it while we wait for new stuff.

/emote wishes they accepted him into beta testing so he could have helped get this stuff working in the first place.

My apologies, I was simply focusing on Seiryuu's comments, not the entire thread.

My vote is for the Modular camp idea. There is just a lot more that can be done with them after they would be implemented, in my opinion.

Now I don't know WHAT I like!!!! But since I prefer simplicity in crafting (or else I woulda been an Uber Arch), I would tend to lean towards this. All I really want is the ability to heal BF, the semi-permanent thing, and the aggro thing (I truely dislike the idea of turrets and mines and whatnot, unless a SQL is involved).

"(I truely dislike the idea of turrets and mines and whatnot, unless a SQL is involved)"

That is how the other proposal would be defined, with all the turrets, mines, etc. modules going into another profession altogether.

  • Otherwise it would not fit in the wilderness-centric design being devised.

I have to agree, if I stumbled upon a hot pink HTFB, it would be a little...unique.

A lot of complaints right now fall into the "why pull out a HTFB when all i want to do is heal and call a pet" catogory. Well, if the HTFB provided huge med bonues, a turret to defend against faction enemies, and a garage to heal you speeder you'd probably want to do that. If that same camp stayed up in combat and could be transfered...can you say "best. patch. ever."?<----- I can. Best. Patch. Ever. see??

sometimes simple is better. but why not try simple versions of good ideas rather than good versions of simple ideas? This of course is not directed towards the thread or the ideas therein, but rather to the "vibe" i get from some people who are willing to settle for less when we deserve more. I agree, if they fix the system now, I'll be happy. But that would wear off. If you sit back in six months and realise that all you asked for was camps to repell aggros and that's all you got, would you still be happy? I wouldn't.

Rangers are a good proffession waiting to be made great. Let's not settle for "pretty good". Let's push for something worth acheiving. If it isn't a battle to get something, at least in SWG, it's probably not worth getting.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I somewhat like the idea of more than just the person who deployed the camp getting xp. I mean, if 5 people spend a week camping, they all get the experience of surviving in the wilderness, not just the guy who knows how to set up the tent.

Also, as far as what is a big request and what is small, since none of us are developers on this game, none of us know. As a software developer myself, I can tell you that sometimes something that sounds like the most minor change is the most difficult, and what sounds like a complete overhaul of the system is a matter of five minutes' work.

NRaas - Looking at what was submitted in the "Outdoorsman" message and the current discussion in Modular Camp v3, I'd say this thread has been overcome by events. Probably should un-sticky and let it die on the vine.
