Stalking used to really mean something. In beta, when they first added it, Narglatches would stalk you for almost 1000m before giving up interest, and they'd stay just out of range of the 128m radar that a lot of people use, so you wouldn't see em until it was too late. I dunno what happened to that really, though. I don't remember anyone complaining about it... I guess it just quietly changed. Some things still stalk you for a pretty good distance though... like 100m or so. Creatures that don't have a lair tend to stalk for longer than those that do.

As for it being a ranger only thing... rangers are the only ones that get the message, but everyone gets stalked. The counter to stalking is conceal/maskscent. It hides you from the stalking creature and causes them to stop right away.

Heh I actually thought it was a scout ability, had Ranger for so long never even thought about it much, but you get that all the time. It is kinda useful, just basically don't stop somewhere if you are being stalked, or just maskscent, that should do it too. Although Maskscent has been acting up lately.
