Thread: Pricing / Overpricing

Dave youll be happy to know the devs have acknowledged this and will be dealt with in the combat balance.

The Combat Balance has just been pushed back a long way so may take some time for this problem to be fixed and groups to come back in.

I dont know about you guys but in the earlyish days when we were running around in groups, i couldnt get enough of this game. It was so much fun throwing my traps into a massive group of creatures, having a medic running around healing everyone, having a tk tanking and having us rangers helping players get through the wilderness with our camps.

Great stuff.

At the end of the day this thread is about the pricing of goods, however the fact is 99% of the ranger population simply take contracts with cpu rates set by the contractor. We play to the market demand and nothing will ever change this.

LOL @ Myself.

I got so carried away I forgot to make the original point I wanted to make which was kind of relavent to the selling resources to doctors side of this thread.

It'd be nice if rangers as a whole decided to stop selling to doctors, then there'd be less buffs to go around :-)

On the other hand, I'll share a little shortcut I have. I have had a few buffs in my time (shock horror!). However I've only ever paid for two, the rest of the time I traded in kind with 1K of (fairly average) meat. I'm quite happy about how often this works, it doesn't always, there are some doctors out there purely ruled by the $, but there are a lot of really nice ones too

I didn't use buffs or uber armour, so why did the combat revamp have to spoil my game?

hehe

I dont shift any meat for less than 15 cpu so im not into trading hehe

I prefer to pay up in hard cash

Having rangers stop selling to docs will not defeat the problems we have, will simply add to them hehe. ATM the only thing keeping rangers in the money is the bouyant organics market. If that started to fall then we would have nothing to do and nothing to make money with.

If all the rangers in all the galaxies stopped selling to docs then it would simply increase the amount of money scouts get by a little. After all we do not add up to alot of players hehe

Hey!

The scouts should do as we tell them to do, we're all Master Scouts after all!

My two cents:

No Ranger has ever forced anyone to pay high prices resources. If one doesn't want to pay the high prices, they won't pay... Also Doctors are the same way, they have never forced anyone to pay (high prices) for buffs. You CAN play this game without buffs, but most of us CHOOSE not to (i.e. we choose to play with buffs).

I would like to provide my take on the current pricing of resources. From whatI can tell, resources are priced solely from the Trade Forums (that is their purpose). A new spawn is born, it is offered up on the trade forums and people bid until it reaches X cpu. This then becomes the going rate for the resource as word of mouth spreads that price around the server.

It is all supply and demand.

I would also like to mention (if you saw my spreadsheet) that I always undercut my competitors in the trade forums. I have never wanted for anything, still. I have been doing this for over a year and was able to help out Melkart with our city several times (one of them was a 3 million credit dump just in case he could not get back in time).

I'm sought after by some of the biggest merchants on Eclipse, but the best I can do is as a supplimental supplier. I cannot put out enough volume, by myself or with a team of hunters, to effect the economy. The devs made the demand what it is and scouts can harvest too, so you will see the greedy make 200cpu deals until I can effect the economy.

Merchants have reacted to the fact that thier schmatics assume that the volume of organics are the same as the volume of inorganics and it's not even close in reality.

Same here Fred.

Ive got a close team of contractors who regularaly send me the offers first and let me take first options and exclusive rights toa certain amount.

I like how this works, i am not forced to work for them but they are always at the leading cpu givers so if i want i can get a large shift stack secured.

One example, the recent Endor Insect on Eclipse. There were a couple of contracts for like 100k/200k at about 100-120 cpu. Out of those, my contractor sent me a pm with the curent contract option. 125cpu for the endor insect and how much i want securing. I went for 50k and gathered that in two buff runs. Other friends of mine were spending a while collecting the meat and missed out on the contract because others dropped stuff off before.

In the end i was getting 125cpu for the 50k well after my friends had been refused because the contract was closed. A nice 6.25 mil in the pocket for a few hours work.

My Rep means alot to me and my contractors know where to ask first and know im reliable for hitting the stacks i secure.

Ah good my thread got some attention after all

Firstly let me point out to anyone who may have suffered a little too much Tattoine sun than by raising the question of overcharging do I want to make the impression that some of you are lowering your standards. We are all rangers because we enjoy it, and we all do our own thing.

I agree that the majority of my hunting is done for players who offer me contracts. But if ever I have felt that the player have overestimated the value and is offering too much, then I 'll suggest a more reasonable price. You might say I'm mad...whatever. At the end of the day I now only work for a small group who I have managed to build up a friendly trustworthy situation, because of this attitude.

We rangers are in a catch 22 situation. Even if people like me wanted to lower the inflation of our prices ...we wouldn't be able to. Firstly Doc's , armoursmiths CM's and the likes are screaming out for us when news of a good shift goes around. They are forced into offering high prices or they will loose out as the ranger ( or scout:smileymad will run off into the wilds for someone who pays more. It's just basic economics, if there were as many rangers as jedi then of course we'd all be cutting our prices to get the job.

Some of you say you hunt without buffs. Well of course you dont need buffs if you're a master rifleman, that is not the issue. The point is we select few are suffering an identity crisis. There are loads of good threads debating our role, image and future. It is clear that the holo and the buff have forced many professions away from their orriginal path to that of making money. Is that why we became rangers? to make money? I think not. Yes we need a raison d'etre , a purpose again in this game..and with any luck our wishes might just come true.

But on a closing note, what is your image of the ranger? Mine is rather humble...the character that spends more time alone in the wilds, occasionally popping into town to sell whatever has been harvested...hoping that enough money will be made to buy a new suit of kelloggs wookie armour and some brandy.....But the image of jack flash who rocks up at Coronet in an AV-21 wearing a new red suit of composite armour makes me think...."Brother you've sold ur soul"

Anyway this post was not started to point any fingers, just test the water..do whatever makes you enjoy being a ranger

Peace
