I have found them in the most part near Kadaara, and the lakes surrounding that area...

As the creature has 100% kinetic resist, 80% energy resist and 80-90k ham this critter is most easily soloable by a rifleman. You dont need to be a master just have an acid damage rifle, lots of brandy and about 30 mins per critter for time.
Hint these creatures are BIGGER than the barn door so there easyer to hit from extreme range.

I concealed shot the peko peko albatross to death. Didn't take too long and I have killed about 10 with never being aggro'd.
As far as where to look for one. I Have found several around 1000-2000m South of Kadaara. Have had pretty good luck in that area.

I've seen them around kaadara and theed. I killed one as a pistoleer along with a meelee guy who I think was using a powerhammer. I used an acid pistol, but I didn't realy do that much dammage, it was mostly the other guy.
