Thread: Melee Rangers Do you PvP?
Hmm... well I guess I'll toss my 2 creds worth in.
Background Info:
Creature Handler: 2/1/1/1
Swordsman: 0/0/1/0
Ranger: 1/2/2/2 (I think.. /shrugs)
Marskman 4/0/0/4
I've been in limited PvP and most of it against those that are either well equipped and do mainly pvp fighting or have help. On the other end I can't really stand up against a master commando either, but that's kind of to be expected ya know?
Anyway, I've found (as everyone else seems to have said) that as a melee class in pvp you have to pick your fights with care. The few that I've come out ahead in ( I think I've won maybe 2 or 3 out of 5 or 6 PvP engagements ) were due to tactics and proper planning. Well that and my nice large kitty cat who tends to like to eat people that attack his caretaker.
I've found that I can do quite a bit of damage if I can get close to them. Also I've taken to carrying a couple of grenades since my traps are ineffective against players.
I don't really have many "tactics" that I'd advice but just remember one things, COVER IS YOUR FRIEND. I'm not advocating hiding in your house and using the privacy feature. I'm talking about large walls, alleyways, anything that can keep you out of sight and unable to be hit and force them to come in after you. Afterall, if a guy with a rifle closes into range with you, then he's on your turf.
** WARNING : this tactic is not very effective against a commando with a flamethrower as he will roast you long before you can do any real damage to him. **
Hope it helps and good luck in your hunts,

Wherein we learn that terrain collision is now in on Test Center, and that melee fighters may soon be able to actually use hills for cover. Even better, this is something that our Ranger (well, Scout anyway) skills will actually come in handy for.
