Steal??? Whoever doesnt think a Ranger should be able to track should stick to FPS games. The majority of the posts on the BH boards are for adding the ability to the BH, not taking it away from Rangers. I recently gave up the 0-0-3-0 Ranger along with MBH to get another tree in Carbineer, I miss itbadly. It was very usefull in tracking down the targets for my missions...which are sometimes 100+m away from a recently updted waypoint from a seeker.

One of the things I did whilewaiting for my combat XP for novice BH, was go up the ranger tree...got to 3-2-4-4 before having to sell back skills (month after release).

The only reason I dropped Ranger altogether wasto compete with the recent combat templates. I'd prefer to play aCHARACTER asopposed to a TEMPLATE. My characters story was that he found it more profitable to hunt people as opposed to animals...as he focused on bounty hunting more...he became more dependent on droids asopposed to actually examining the environment for clues.

The day theymake FKD as effective as charge shot...Im dropping carbineer and heading back Ranger.....cause it was fun helping out my friends areatrack.

Personally I like being able to mismatch with professions to suit my playing style, thats what this game has been about for a long time. I remember reading this, it was a pretty big departcher from the choose your class and you level up way. SWG has always been about playing your own way, and grabbing skill from different professions b/c they help you is fine.

On BH wanting tracking, I dont agree. Hunting down a jedi is NO small task, or it shouldnt be anyways. Making it so that they have to bring Rangers along is exactly how our profession should be used. It encourages player interaction and cooperation.

Dabbling is part of this game.

As a Ranger, you can dabble 1 column of CH and have a lvl 24 pet.

You can dabble BH and get the LLC. Or just the pistol KD.

You can dabble medic pharmacy to use stims.

You can dabble Artisan surveying just to make money.

Ranger is often dabbled in because scout does provide nice thing`s: movement, camps, and harvesting.

The problem is not that we have a good line. It's that we have 3 crappy one. I can't believe you want our only good line nerfed. Gogo elisist ranger.

Also I might add that asRanger has no combat skills, we are forced to dabble or master another profession.

Keep area-track for only "Master Rangers" - that makes a lot of sense.

Since Ranger is pretty much a support profession (no real combat stuff, just really helpful stuff to complement my main).

Area Track and Wayfaring helped me huge when I was going for Master BH, now I'm nearly a Master Ranger.

I like how some like to take abilities that they find useful, and want to put them on the top shelf. I sure hope our youth isn't in support of this type seperatis. type behavior.

Whatever - this whole thread is pointless - what a joke.

We are not asking for traps that work against creatures....like the scout/ranger currently possess. We are looking for traps...or to be more specific, GADGETS, that work against NPC's and PC's. These gadgets are supported by the movies and the EU.

BH traps should not be craftable by rangers

Ranger traps should not be craftable by BH's

Fellow rangers and readers from other boards I believe the orignal poster was NOT slamming dabbling in general, heck I do it and its what the skill point system is meant for. However I believe he was stating that our BEST and most identifying ability can be used by others who are not full fledged rangers.

The problem is not dabbling it is that the Ranger's other trees are just slightly amped up versions of scout, I mean the only thing that the tracking tree fails to be just an amped up scout tree is that the Scouts didn't get any form of tracking so its a totally new ability which is currently the spice added to the Ranger profession. I mean we make BIGGERcamps that have a few luxuriesnot anything totally new in terms of field preperation, we have conceal which is nice because it blocks NPCs which apparntly its not supposed to do. and Trapping we get two new AoE traps that I don't really use because I find the scout ones more usueful and at a lower resource cost to make.

Again the poster sounded more mad at the fact that essential the essence of Ranger is in one tree.

I completely agree, and the solution is not moving tracking to the master skill but actually improving the other skill trees. I don't mind dabblers, infact I am one myself and mostly because there are no other things about ranger that feel are worth getting.

I still consider myself a ranger, but I am not sacrificing my skill points for useless skills, being a ranger is in the way you play the game not your actual skills. We need the other trees to be better, and added ablities to the Master skill, but only added not moved. I really would be a Master, even if the changes were only a small addition, but right now its better for my playing style to have other skills.

BHs that want tracking can dabble all they want, but they cannot take this skill away from us, I know not really related but its been brought up before. If they don't like or can't dabble in the skills then they should hire a ranger to come wtih them, Jedis should be hunted in groups anyways.

just a few thoughts.....

1) if BHs want to use traps fine but they have to buy them from us to help our economy. this could be emplemented when we get our new traps.

2) i do desprately belive that we need some kind of advanced weapon skill so that we dont have to dabble in CH or BH or anything else. As outdoorsman or Rangers or infiltrators we should have a wepon line that is not usable by other classes that can give state changes if equiped with traps or cause a fair amount of DD or DoT damage. DD like the LLC or DoT less powerfull but on the same order as a flamethrower maybe using acid instead of flames. maybe a weapon like the M-203 gernade launcher that our Army uses DD on top launcher on bottom for hurling traps. I would much rather see us get a weapon like this instead of the blow dart cross bow idea, and it could be put in the frontiersman tree to help that tree be a bit more attractive or scattered through all trees.

3) its hard for me to argue that BHs dont need Areatrack for NPCs and PC marks but I still believe they should not get it or it should not be as detailed as ours is. We are the Huntmasters we should be able to get better info based on our training and the greater skillpoints we have invested.

4) guys all classes feel that they got short changed and cant be self suffciant. The truth is we are not supposed to be. We are supposed to depend on each other in this game even commandos and BHs need help from time to time. BHs should take advantage of us rangers while helping our economy by teaming with us to help them find marks and paying us accordingly. Just like we pay medics and entertainers and doctors we do have skills we can sell to make money we just choose not to use them thus damaging our own economy. We must stand up for our rights and not not let them take skills from us.

Dont know how benificial this post is maybe just the ramblings of a madman. But its food for thought if your hungry. let me know what you think.

Good luck to those that DO use it at all.

I've had so many people want me to help track down giant rare creatures and are always so pissed when they see I can't find it. I tell them upfront, 500m is my range. We might not even catch it on spawn.

The most intelligent thing I've heard yet was we should be able to track planetwide on Master Status, be able to sort which animals we're looking for by general means as well, so we're not crowded by a crapload of animals on a long list unsorted.

I agree, the main point here is to make the Master Skill better. Merely moving tracking there does nothing to make them better because they already hadit to begin with.

Now I like what was said, making it so that Master expands on tracking, make it so that they can track planet wide, that would be a great ability, even if it was only useable on creatures. I have a feeling that it may be to great ability to work on players, as they would be able to track a jedi down where ever they went. Although i do feel that our current max range of 500m is way to small, expecially with vehicals players can cross that distance in no time at all.

Thank you Telephius, somebody finally "gets it". It's not that people shouldn't be able to dabble. It's not that tracking should be for masters or whatnot. It's that essentially anyone with 0-0-3-0 get's 90% of the benefit from the entire ranger skill tree at only a tiny fraction of the skill point cost, and a lot of people have figured that out. And what it means is that those who really want to be a full fledged uber ranger really get very little more than those dabblers. The obvious solution is to actually make those other three branches of ranger actually useful, and to give master rangers something worthwhile that would make one actually strive to become one.

The funny thing about this thread is that with all these people getting all emotional and defensive about protecting their "right to dabble" only underscores the point.

Put the fabled /track skill at master. Tracking dabbling problem solved. We rangers get a better version, they can keep the lesser version. Of coarse this in no way excuses the dev's from showing some love to our other 3 trees. As far as I am concerned, wayfaring has no use at all right now, level 1 and 4 trapping gives nothing worth while, the same as level 2 and 4 in survival. There should never be empty boxes, and as I have stated before it isnt about powerful, its about useful. Rescue is NOT useful. The traps we do get are NOT useful.

Isnt our Dev the same as the smuggler dev? If you notice they have a crappload of empty skill boxes too. This guy needs to do his freaking job.
