Oh shoot - sorry - fixed. I'm using firefox and I can't use the graphical editor part because it won't post, so when I do quote post I have to edit the html manually, and I mst have bungled that.

Bio,

I can understand getting caught up in the P-Dart mania initially becuase Ranger has been borked for so long the dart almost seems like justice initially. But really after the first Krayt or two you realize that we went from broken to fixed with what is technically an exploit at worst. I am actually surprised that the "Ranger is a lifestyle not a profession" crowd here continues to support this bugged trap and even more surprised that both Owen and Calc are supporting the bug through silent indifference. I want this profession fixed but not through an exploitable trap.

Yet again QFE.

And yeah, that quote above is borked... I was confused staring at it.. lol.

From a wilderness appreciation point of view I never ever attempted to solo a krayt before or after the CU. It just seems wrong.

If the trap landed a temp state fine but since it roots permanently its exploiting a bug. I understand alot of "old school" Rangers are enjoying this bug and I have used it too mainly for escape. Using the excuse of us being ignored for so long is well beneathe what I thought was the Ranger code of honor. We went from unbuffed unarmored solo hunters using tactics to now locking a target in place unlike it was meant to work and plugging away with zero tactics.

Just for the record, I was saying I hope that they fix the perma-root problem as well. But the p-dart issue is more complex than just the perma-root problem:

bad - the traps seem to work too well, and we all know how, and a few of us feel slimy using them.

good - we can now trap things like krayts, etc.... things we couldn't trap before.

So my point was that I hope they fix the first one and leave the second one relatively unchanged. Yes, it might mean that we might still be able to solo big things, but at least the things will have more of chance and there will be more skill involved.

For the record, the only thing I have solo'd that was said to be unsoloable was a Kimogila, and that took 15 minutes with my CH / MRanger template. I didn't seek it out, either. I was looking for pets to train, and thought that some guildie might need a Kimo loot drop. I haven't sought out Krayts to solo, nor the Gorax. I use this "bug" against high-CL creatures like the Urnso'ri or whatever their name is on Kashyyyk, and the creatures that spawn from a mission lair of my level or more / less. Even though it is a bug, and I say that exploiting it should not be grounds for ridicule, I only say this because it has not been corrected, and our other traps have not been restored to their proper functions. Right now, I take it this is the most widely usedtrap. Do the actual root traps we have still work, because I haven't been successful with them. That is why I stick with the P-Darts, but I don't go solo Krayts to stock up on Krayt Tissues to sell for uber cash, even though I need that kind of money right now. Frankly, I have better things to do than show off with a bugged trap. However, I still think that it is an ironic consolation to the other traps that have been rendered useless / pointless with the CU conversion that broke them. Almost like fate, which is why I am interested in this subject in the first place.

Now that I agree with. If P-darts snared Krayts (etc) and Ad Mesh rooted creatures on a timer then we could still solo much of the content while using tried and true Ranger tactics. It is the perma root that turns us from Master Ranger to Master Sploiter that I want fixed

You can use P-darts without the perma-root happeneing, of course. Hunting with Lyth yesterday, I used a tried and true method- he would hit them with his weapon a few times, I'd start bleeding the creature. He'd hit it a few more times to keep the aggro, I'd hit it with the amazingly awesome stun/dizzy attack that BHs have. he'd hit it a few more times and then I'd use a critical shot, kd it, critical shot it again, then kite it. If it got hairy, a single p-dart would save the day, as I'd have time to run, crtical shot, then use duelist stance (which is also amazingly awesome, by the way).

P-darts CAN be used malliciously, but they can also be used effectively without exploiting. I assure you, even if they remove the perma-root, if we're still able to effectively trap Krayts, they'll still be solo-able using tactics. and that's what being a Ranger is all about. Tactics.

In the meantime though...I'm actually having fun with this little bug. I know, it sounds horrible...but it is funny to watch a Jedi get chomped and then have people come up to your group of two (one with a Master Ranger tag, one with a Tracker tag) and ask for tips when hunting Krayts. That's the way it should be...people asking Rangers for hunting advice. Even if it takes an bug for people to realize it.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

lol - you mean all six of them?

But for what it's worth - even if they fix the perma-stick issues, the trap will still be fairly powerful, esp. if you get used to timing it so another trap will land just when the last one wears off (and keep your KD shot in reserve in case a miss a trap or two). One good thing the CU did for us was that it lowered the relative level of creatures so that it was possible for us to land traps on them. Before the CU I could never trap a dragon, now I can trap them 95% of the time.

Right now the situation we have is that one trap seems to work too well and that things have changed so that we can actually land it. My hope is that they fix the first thing but leave the second relatively intact. Then we'll still be able to take on high-level things, but it will involve a lot more skill, coordination, and timing.

This will hopefully be fixed soon to remove the perma root effect as it has been /bug reported, sent to Tiggs, and sent through the support forums as a possible exploit.

Nothing to see here move along.

I hope he does that soon. I'd hate to think that someone wasn't getting the anger that they didn't deserve.
