Well I just got Frontiering III. I've been making Field Bases for a while. In my experience, they last more than 45 minutes but less than an hour. I've had acouple disappear on my while I was sitting in them chatting. About 50 minutes seems to be the limit of their existance. That might increase when I get to High Tech Field Base, though.

oh and do those light poles actually emit light at night like the improved camp does? I hate having torches not give any light

Thanks all, and congrats to all you other rangers that worked so hard as well!

It's truly amazing to hear that you made it to master ranger with no macros friend!

Can anyone confirm that the Base Camp does not expire until you logout? That would make it so much better then the other camps. Also what are the components required to create a base camp?

The Field Base disbands like a normal camp (combat, too far, one hour). I've heard mixed reports on the High Tech Field base.

I have about 72k to go for advanced fieldbase. No macroing for me either. Just a book and second computer handy to occupy my time sitting in front of the game.

Congrats, 18K away myself. Hopefully there will be resource change on my server soon with some good new quality resources so I can play harvester and earn camping xp.

What I really hate about camp xp is it is a test of your tolerance to boredom. You can do a few, limited clever things to get a bit more camp xp such as place camps along well known routes to places like say the Tusken fort, or escort a few noobs around in the wilderness. But 90% of this is just sitting around in camp, dealing with cabin fever. I suppose you can say camp for an hour, go watch Seinfeld, and come back, make a new camp, maybe go see who gets eliminated in Survivor, go make another camp, read the latest Potter novel, make another camp, go have some quality time with the wife....but really such men who do things are no better than those who (gawd forbid) macro campers. You see, they have not proven they can tolerate boredom as much as other men. No, only the true camping masters can sit there at their computer terminal, watching the flames in their camp for the entire 50 minute duration of the camp. Only they have really earned the highest honors of rangerdom. I think you can still be considered a true ranger if you camp and:

1. Peroidically blink from your unending stare at the monitor

2. Readjust your buttocks to prevent bed sores

3. Leave your monitor to put out a fire in your house (as long as you return once the call to 911 is placed)

4. Answer the phone if it rings. You can't look away from the monitor though, and true campers will just grunt in a distracted manner to those on the other end of the phone.

As a true camper you can style your endeavor as a couch potatoes version of the dance marathon, and you have earned the privelege of snubbing lesser macro campers.

You'll like the high tech base, it never expires. Which means if you happen to die before disbanding it, somewhere far way, you can never make another camp until you run back out to disband it. Neat feature.

I am about 100K away from the HT Field Base atm. I have been using a rather unique approach to quickly maxing out my camping exp with the Field bases in only 25 minutes. Its so simple that I really can not believe that some one else has not mentioned it. When on my camping grinding, this is the plan:

1. A Get a comfy chair. because your gonna be there a while.

2.Make sure you have enough resources for the time frame you will be camping.

3. Go find a lair of Killer Cats, for Corellia this is Gurrcats. Target lair and dont let up. Cats should swarm out at you and kill you. Repeat twice more after clone activation.

4. Now that you have all that pretty black on your health bar, its time to power camp.

5. Set up camp (i perfer the Field Bases). Once the camp is up, go to options and select Alarm. Set the alarm for 25 minutes. Once alarm goes off, rotate the camp and reset for 25 minutes. During this time, I like to read at the keyboard, surf the web on my second computer, sometimes I like to nap, but you know find something to do as well as camp. And since your at the keyboard you can respond to tells and such. Chating with friends is good. I used to play gems on EQ.

6. Repeat until HAM bars return to normal.

7. Repeat entire process until your a Master Survivalist. (100 Real Life Hours later).

Anyway just some ideas on how to get some survival exp.

I mastered ranger about 4 days ago on Tarq. Camping XP was the worst, but managed to get it to about 11,000 xp/hour with a group of medics (we all killed ourselves to oblivion, then healed up minds/battle fatigue in cantina, then setup camp outside of town. Everyone made tons of xp.

Now for the bad news.. The high tech field base is SERIOUSLY bugged.

#1: Crafting stations do not work.

#2: It doesn't heal you

#3: Repel? Umm, call it attracts mobs

#4: Doesn't dispel.. ever... unless you leave planet it appears..

On the plus side, it looks cool.

Other things to look forward to..

Maskscent = useless.. I'm at maskscent 140 right now (bothan + master ranger = 115) + 35 enhancements for maskscent on my clothes. I'm always detected, usually by yellows.. makes travelling on endor or lok impossible. (that's not including the fact that NPC's detect you always).

The traps.. bugged.. don't have any area effect.

Overally, the master ranger is a glorified scout at the moment. No real reason to ever group with one, so you sort of have to be a CH at the same time. I do join in raids, etc, but they are using my pistoleer skills for that, not my ranger skills.

The only plus is that you harvest lots of hides. but that's the only tree that seems to 'work' in the ranger line.
