Thread: VOTE RESULTS PvE versus PvP
The current system does favor PvE, since our abilities are NOT usable in PvP. When Thunderheart get in touch with you this is one of the things that should be addressed.

Yes... Way to rally support from the developers...
During Beta, pets were apparently susceptible to traps.
- However experience exploits by using traps on pets forced the developers to remove the functionality.
Until they have time to re-evaluate their stance on pets versus traps, we are stuck with it... Hopefully it will not take long for them to return to that game system.
Kind of what I expected.
To answer the question, my thoughts is that most people take Ranger to be the master of outdoors and killing ANIMALS. But we are not the masters at killing animals, thus that is what I think they devs should look at with us. If they are going to work on PvE for us, then they should look at why we are not one of the, if not the best profession for hunting animals. It should be that if you want to go big game hunting you need a ranger, and probably a master ranger for the really big stuff that is meant for a group. Instead people go out and get CH for big pets, and commandos for insane damage, for the big game hunts. There is no real drive for groups to need a ranger. The /areatack helped a bit, and we do get orders for large amounts of specific resources. That is cool, but we dont really get the call to go hunting because we can make hunting animals so much easier.
I totally agree with the comment someone made about us being the anit CH. That is something so obviously missing from our profession. NRaas what if you did a poll again on whether Rangers thought should be a big push for PvP additions, and if they minded not getting xp for traping pets? It has to be that way just avoid ppl exploiting it and traping their own or friends pets just to get xp. The changes to CH are interesting and something needed to be done, but I'm sure they will still be powerful at master level, and there should be something like master Ranger that can counter them.

I agree 10,000% with you and have been saying the same thing forever!
Now we just need to get the dev's to listen.
Comando's should be the best at War.
Bounty Hunters should be the best at hunting and killing players and NPC's
Rangers should be the best at HUTNING and KILLING beasts, including any pet creatures.
Comandos and the Bounty Hunters should getMORE incentives, bonuses in rewards and missions etc for killing NPC's and should be discouraged, by reducing rewards for hunting animals. Lets say a XP bonus on NPC missions and a XP reduction on creature missions. They are after all MELTING the creatures. Thats not the object of a "Hunt"
To balance, do the opposite to Rangers. Reduce NPC rewards and boost for critters. But Rangers should have MUCH greater to hit and DAMAGE to creatures bonuses. Rangers should be able to spot creatures weakspots and crtical hit them. Yes a Flame Thrower should be devistating to a big critter it would kill them but you should end up with a burnt pile of ashes not worth much.
This ability, to a lesser extent, should be able to passed on to groups. This would increase our group appeal. The same for Commando's and Bounty Hunters, their NPC bonuses should filter into the group again to a lesser extend. This would have to be additive with the Squad Leaders abilities so as not to nerf them.
Imps with ATST's should fear Commandos and Beast Handlers should fear Rangers. The creatures of the wild should fear Rangers. As it is now they just gripe to one another about the fancy tents taking up to much grazing land. lol
I just gave up master and the trapping line the other day. If they ever implement the changes they proposed back in August, I'll happily grind back up to master. But it seems like we are a low priority. Frontiering and Wayfaring will be the next to go...hope to keep Tracking forever, as it is the only line that seems to havefew bugs and is useful.

"But it seems like we are a low priority."
Not just seems... We are. ![]()
We were tops in the past couple months...
- But sadly, we must now share the wealth with the other needy professions (and there are a lot).

Hopefully, we can grab a couple scraps in the interim...
- But it may be awhile until GreenMarine focuses on our profession again.
Resources make no difference on traps. The stack size is always the same, the effects are always the same, and the duration of the effects are always the same.
It'd be nice if they included experimentation on traps. Make larger stack size, better effectiveness, etc. Give us more reason to mass produce them.

However, it is a sticky issue on how to handle some of the traps in PvP combat...
- Things such as the snare effect could be highly unbalancing.
Therefore the developers will require substantial time to design a game plan that has a reasonable chance of success.
I disagree that a snare trap in PvP would be that unbalancing. The way I look at it is this- I, as a Master Ranger, am not going to provoke a master commando into diging into his arsenal and attacking me. Likewise, that same master commando should have some serious reservations about digging into that arsenal to attack me, the Master Ranger. The fear of being snared or rooted for a good 30 seconds or so ought to keep that from happening. Or better yet, let me hit him with a trap that nulifies his armors resistance against energy weapons for a good minute or so.
I do agree, however, that the issue does need some serious thought -and debate/discussion between the developers and the members of the class. I wouldnt want a half hearted implementation of a system we could use in PvP.
I voted PvE.
Main reason why is that I am just starting to work up the Ranger trees. I don't PvP yet, but will when I stand a chance of not getting melted into a puddle in the first 3 seconds. While I work to improve, PvE makes more sense. As I work my way up, no doubt I will want more PvP capabilities. I love the idea of being the anti-CH, since IMO that profession doesn't belong in the game. I digress ![]()
In short, I would not be surprised if the PvE voters were mostly still working their way up, and the PvP voters were closer to Master level.
And I am NOT a carebear!

I am a master ranger/master pistoleer/ranged support specialist(marksman tree)
I've spent my wad of skillpoints, other than faction missions and the occasional hunting for meats for my medical friends i don't deal with pve. One of the pve things i do puts me at risk of being shot at by players(faction missions and the tef). Animal hunting you will find is just a source of income at master level and you will find you hunt much less often than you did when you were climbing up the tree.
In my opinion there are alot of good skills in ranger that help you level quite niceley, yes we can't domuch to creatures over CL 90 but under that range i can make a nice dandy living and i do it solo, no pets and using my ranger skills(all of them). Sure we could use a little improvement in those hunting skills but we need more for pvp than pve. Right now i can do PVE just fine, i get wiped out in PVP so fast it ain't funny and we aren't a non combat class. We are a combat support profession, ranger should enhance your combat ability, and it does in pve. Problem is it doesn't do so for you in PVP. The GCW is the MEAT AND POTATOES of this game and that means if you can't do PVP which is the biggest part of the GCW and the main place you can affect the GCW the most is in PVP.
Our traps should snare, debuff, slow attacks, blind, dizzy, stun. reduce defenses, immobilize, poison, knockout animals AND humanoids. Traps are the main tree we should get our PVP power from. I do not feel we need ranger specific weapons other than say a trap launcher or a blowgun of some kind. In my opinion what we need is a fire on the move trap delivery weapon. This would differentiate us from scouts ALOT. And it would make us UNIQUE. That gives us two lines worth being a ranger for. With factional camps that would only be more gravy, love to have conceal in pvp but hey if that is the one line that doesn't get pvp functionality i can live with that. BHs get screwed with investigations, PVE only skill, so i can live with us being screwed in wayfaring. But the REST needs to have use in the GCW and PVP.
Oh and trust me if our traps worked in PVP and we had factional bases with defenses we'd be in high demand for PVP. And we'd be unique versus any other profession.
Just a quick note of support to Keito's comments. I haven't yet reached Master Pistoleer but I'm heading for exactly the same profile and I'm hoping that when I'm there I will also be able to beeffective in PvP. From Keito's comments that doesn't look like its going to happen. In that case I will start trading off my Ranger skills for more firepower. I'll leave Traps and Tracking until last in the hopes that the devs will do something to keep us alive and relevant in PvP.
There is plenty of evidence that that end-game in SWG will be the GCW. Please, devs, give Ranger's a place in that play.
Keito, hope you won't mind if I add your signature to mine. I feel exactly the same way!
Grey
I want to be an Antarian Ranger!
I want to live the life of danger!
Just as I thought. I 100% agree with your ideas of contributing to the GCW in PvP as well. I'm looking forward to contributing to it as well, but for now it looks like (for now) I will be using skills other than the Ranger set
