Thats why I droped Rifles as a n00b, just to boreing kill'n everything before it got within 20m. Then I had to get up and go over there and harvest it. Now as a tkm i get to wear cool clothes...(camo hehehe) and look like a ranger, not some combat droid. Then when I kill it, its right there within reach to skin. But wait before pub 17 I could solo up to lvl 33-34 on Dath., now I am lucky to solo a lvl 82. (they said they up'd their damage, but slowed their hits down....not).

it has to do with skills and tactics. If you have the right specials + traps + tactics + planning and careful thought in how you do it, yes you can solo some of the very high end creatures. I solo'd the Katarn a while back and posted here, and since have done dragons, kimos, the Gorax and others. Haven't done the Acklay or a couple others, but most creatures I've come across I can solo currently provided I plan ahead and act smart. JB is right, I actually dropped some boxes in Ranger the other day to run the new player quests on Tat the other day, after doing that I was able to get back all but Master Ranger (had to get some more XP) so I ended up CL77, and was soloing red-con mobs on Dathomir with ease (rancors, plainswalkers and tohers).

A debatably polite way of saying "you must suck then".

I do fine against mobs close to my clvl or 3-5 lvls above on my own. I sure as snot am not taking down a Krayt on my own anytime soon. Trap droid - don't have one.

And luckily I don't need one... if a Krayt has to be sacrificed on the altar for SWG goodness, there are guild hunts to get around to it.

Nope, not at all what I was trying to say. Your play style and temple might be such that it doesn't lend itself to PvE or PvCreature as well asit might do other things. Phen has a great post on that in another forum that I just read, many of us have developed tactics and built our template over many months of play to figure out how to do what JB and others are talking about. Someone else (you or others, I wasn't trying to say "you suck" to you or anyone else in particular) may have built up a set of tactics and template skills that lend themselves more to PvP, or GCW assaults, or other in game activities. What works well for a melee fighter isn't necessarily going to work for a ranged template. What works well for someone who's sinking as many points into Ranger as a Master does to be an "elite hunter" might not work well for someone who built a template geared more towards hunting NPCs, or grinding XP for the village, or participating in PvP and the GCW.

All I was stating was that yes, it is possible. Can I go out and solo some of the elite NPCs in the game? Nope, I don't have the right set of skills in my current template to be able to do that at least in some cases. I can use some of the skills I have (mostly on the combat side since Ranger is currently gated to creature-only for our skills really) and some similar tactics to how Ihunt (scouting out the terrain, using TN to my advantage, etc)to not get stupid-dead, but by and large I'm not going to be able to do some of the things vs NPCs or against other players in PvPthat someone else with a different template is able to do. That's not what I've spent time developing tactics for, that's not where I've invested skill points to get skills to help with. I believe you only had the tracking line in Ranger, so your template is most likley not geared towards being the ultimate hunter (which is largely the current role of Master Ranger, tho many here including myself don't wish to see Ranger continue to be the only combat or combat-support class who are gated from 2/3 of the "combat" content in game by limiting our skills and abilities to creature-only).
