Thread: Charging for resources
I do kinda like the idea of taking out the mission terminals, but that could make life really difficult for non-combatants, and also bounty hunters who rely on those for experience and funds. It would certainly turn it into a player economy, but it would also destroy those players than can't actually produce anything too. Especially the novices who can't yet make many clothes or any armor or weapons that people would use. There would certainly be a rich upper class and a huge poverty class. Maybe a better idea would be to pay more for the delivery missions and less for the combat missions and scale them up a lot less over time. Maybe people actually produce something if they want to make any money.
I guess thats one thing about animal organics that is comforting..."If you harvest it, they will buy it". With the Chef changes and the insatiable appetite of Docs and BE, there will ALWAYS be a market for meat. As long as the server's economies continue to inflate due to the bottomless pit of credit-granting (missino terminals), the price will continue to go up. I regularly see people offering 30-75 cpu on mostly mid-high level meats. If the Devs ever put in "farms" or scouts to work, we might see prices go down as automated organic-harvs start producing stuff.
It will be very curious to see when the market will peak. I expect it is getting close, but as long as the Devs dont introduce anything to stabalize the economy, we proly have another few months of increases ahead. I'm thinking crap meat will soon be selling for 20cpu, and excellent stuff for 100cpu regularly. As long as people can go take a dual-mission run for 50k a pop (and ungroup after taking it so everyone gets 50k each instead of dividing the50k between the group), they wont care about paying 10k for a buff. As long as credits are so pathetically easy to get, the price will keep climbing. People who price reasonably will be bought out and re-sold, and will be scoffed at. Their well-intentioned gesture will be dismissed, as other people will get rich off them. SO basically, if you cant beat 'em (and you cant), join 'em. All it would take (a miracle) is for all Doc s to refuse to offer any buffs until the prices on meat drops. The combat types would start screaming. And soon, organic sellers would drop their prices. But it woul never, EVER happen, as someone would violate the embargo, and get filthy rich selling Doc buffs for 100k each... AND PEOPLE WOULD PAY IT!!!!!
I too am amazed at the inflated prices, but you just cant win. SOme day it will stabalize....someday....
Terminal income has to be reduced a point that balances, over the long term, with hard expenditures: cloning, travel, insurance, etc. You should be able to get started off mission terminals, or stay in the black if you don't have anything to offer in the player economy currently (which happens to Rangers all the time; Corbantis is just coming out of a very bad drought in worthwhile creature resources). You should not be able to get rich off of them.
Terminals on the five advanced worlds should simply vanish. You want to hunt Rancors or Grauls or whatever, you bring a Ranger or you wander around at random and pray. Rewards for those worlds should be quest rewards, rare drops and saleable resources, not hard currency.
It's a nerf, but it's absolutely necessary for the long-term survival of the game. The longer the devs wait to do it, the more it's going to hurt when the axe finally falls.
What I would also do, if it were my decision, and this will really make people scream: I'd make all the mobs spawned by mission terminals skinny. 1 resource each. You can have the easy cash from mission payouts, or you can have resources to sell. You can't have both.
Heh..weird stuff. My server has like 3 separate good resources around.. Something like 50 per for Naboo herb, 100 per for lok avian,...it's pretty nuts.
Good day to be a Ranger.
I love being on the "unofficial PvP server"...hehe, it's all about the docs.
Hmm, I'm on Tempest...I've always been rather (very) mild with my pricing. I've found the ever higher prices docs have been willing to pay is more a function of competition between the docs for who gets the best/most stuff. I about wet myself when someone flat broadcast offered 100 cpu on the server forums. That same doc always offered more than anyone else did...so I guess to just help the underdog I always made sure I sold to the lesser docs too. I won't kid you I sold to the higher payingone, but I always saved half for the other guys to balance things out. Plus I knew another doc that was just downright a 'nice' player, so I rewarded her with regular supplies even tho' it was a lesser rate.
You know, I just thought...we may have the ablility toinfluence pricing in this way ...i.e. divvie up the spoils (organics)across the spectrum (of buyers).
You know what I get sick of?
"I'm uber. I harvest seven billion units of meat in one hour. If you other guys can't, you're losers."
