I am a Master Ranger first, and TKM is my means to that end.

That's a good way of putting it. So, ditto, but Pikeman is my means to that end. I don't recommend Pikeman, because compared to any other combat profession, the only thing it has going for it is visual style. In just about every other way, the profession is underpowered and unnecessary. But it does give me a good reason to throw traps, because using three specials in a fight usually means I lose.

Thing that is a big advantage with melee rangers is the harvest is right there, no running around and back hoping the corpse rot don't get you.

Yeah, I agree. That's a nice perk.

I haven't heard Carbineer listed. I don't know much about the profession (if it's "working" or not) but it seems to me you'd get the best of both worlds. Just enough range to keep out of danger, and just close enough to not have to worry too much about harvesting. Plus, don't they get bonuses while running? So even when you do run up to harvest you've got that bonus when you move back to range.

So is it safe to say that TKA/Ranger is the flavor of the month right now?

Maybe I'll try TKA when everyone else drops it grrr. I hate being a follower.

I don't know if I would say that. There are still plenty of Ranger/Riflemen out there, they just haven't posted yet. I think the TKA is preferred because of the Meditiation line (healing in the wilderness, removing poison and disease and boosting youself is pretty nice). Plus, being lizards, like many of us are, we get unarmed and reature harvesting bonuses...it only makes sense to be a TKA.

Also, check the Pistol Vs. Rifleman/Ranger thread. Almost twice as many posts as the melee one.

I started with Ranger/Pistoleer. But after months, it became annoying. Now, i am Ranger/little-bit-more-than-Novice Pikeman and i just love it. It looks cool and much much more starwarsy than with a pistol.

Ok - pikeman is still a little bit bugy. Yesterday i killed a desert eopi with 2 hits and against the next one i had zero chance.

Actually, TKA being far better than the other melee combat professions, it's just a popular pick for anyone who's looking to hybrid their character with a melee profession.

how is melee (lightsabers aside) more star warsy than a blaster? Never seen Han pull out a vibrosword. He pulls out a DL-44 pistol. Stormies all use carbines and rifles. *shrugs* Melee (other than lightsabers) is about as non-Star Warsy as it gets for me.

Actually there were lots of melee combatants in Star Wars. From Jabba's court to the Emperor's Royal Guard to Tusken Raiders, melee was just as big as ranged. The thing is all the main characters used firearms so you didn't see it.

A bigger question is where does LLC's and Flamethrowers fit into Star Wars?

The flamethrower comes from SW battlegrounds the ST's that where mounted on dewbacks had flamethrowers. I also think in the remake of the original SW where the ST is riding the dewback I think he is useing a flamethrower but its been a good 3 years sence iv seen the remake so I could be rong.
