I wear a PSG over my modded clothing, simply for the fact that it offers some protection without any encumberance, for when I run into an angry group of NPCs.

And they also are vulnerable to acid, so they do not help vs. creature ranged attacks (before now the "ranged attacks are also kinetic" crowd jumps in, I talk about wild creatures, not BE-pets

This is a mere display bug, PSG's sometimes show with wrong stats when on a vendor or still crated, uncrated and in your inventory you should see the true protection.
