Honestly though I have tried camo a few times and it broke way more often then maskscent ever did, so I abandoned it. And yes I was a master ranger

Ever heard of making a schematic while you're in your HTFB camp? Standing near your WDG station, getting healed in camp, you have all the time you need to make a schematic. Then put this schematic and the resources needed into a factory and presto... It's a bit more clicking, but just 1 crate of camokits (8+ uses due to experimenting) makes quiet a difference.

Being a ranger is being prepared. I'm trying to get good amounts of the resources for every planet there is and have factory runs when I'm running low on certain kits. So whenever there is some resource rush, i grab a factory crate or two and head to it.

Conceal works, if properly used, much better then maskscent!

I use a lot of camo kits as well, mostly to avoid NPC's and also to keep my friends hidden so they dont tow half the planet along behind us and get killed whilst I stop to do an area track or 2.

I do carry a couple of kits on me, but I rather like the fact that usually my firsttask on a planet is a quick scout around to find the required critters, take down 5-6 depending on yield, pop an HTFB and make up some kits. Kind of settles me into the planet I am on as it were.

Didn't they nerf the ability for camo to work on npcs over a year ago? Did they un-nerf it?

It's been working for me since I've been a Ranger, so at least 6 months.

Conceal doesn't work on NPC's. That is one of my biggest gripes, I feel like it should. It is kinda annoying that I cannot sneak up on NPC's.

I mean I am supposed to be camoflagued right?

Camo kits should knock us off radar until with a short distance and same with the actual game screen it should work like a "stealth" mode. I am not saying we could walk around invisible, but the skill should work the same against NPC's and PC's as it does critters.

Trust me, I know some Thunes that are swifter than some Meatlumps i've met.....

Yes it does, apart from Thugs/Bandits for some reason If it didn't, I would never use it!

I've been hunting Black Suns instead of critters recently (want a full set of BH armour) and Camo DEFINATELY works. My partner and I have been killing BS's and then looting them 3m from their friends without a hint of them seeing us. Also getting between 120 and 180 scout xp per BS when the kit works. I've also had them break them, so its a quick retreat, re-apply and go in again. But they do definately work on NPC's. I've not tried on factioned enemies (I'm neutral now!) and I hear Night Sisters will break them every time without fail (I hate Dath anyway )

Hmm, this is interesting because I know for a fact that they nerfed camo/npcs some time ago. I remember a lot of us complaining about it, maybe I can search the archives and dig up some facts.

Ok a quick search turned up a few threads pertaining to camo/npcs. In one of those threads I found this, a compilation a quotes that another ranger looked up pertaining to this question. Lol.

Here is what they wrote:

here's a list of quotes I found.. several are old, but it seems there is misunderstanding or confusion about its effectiveness against NPCs. I've only been a ranger since March, but was camo at one time broken against NPC's and later fixed? If so, maybe there's still confusion, or people mix it up with traps not working on NPCs and the facts have gotten creatively interpreted.
(These were random posts by different players that I found in the search engine and just included the relevant quotes)
Since I've clipped and taken the quotes out of context, I haven't attributed any names. To be fair, I see many more posts saying it works great against NPC's, which I agree with.

5-14-04
"It was supposed to work on NPCs as well, but then the developers changed their minds (or there was a severe lack of communication) and this was supposedly nerfed (taken away), although it reportedly still works against NPCs on occasion."

1-7-04
"Now, the exception to this is with NPC's of course.. but there is no guarantee there, and we have already been informed that its NOT supposed to work on any of them and from that I think we can infer that it may be removed whenever they get around to it. "

3-15-04
"My camo went into the bank when it stopped working on NPCs,"

3-25-04
"There is a bug with conceal and should be investigated. Some folks think it's too good. Some folks think it's useless. Me, I can use it for sniping on "some" critters and has never worked against NPC's since the end of Jan."

6-20-04
"I remain absolutely convinced that some months ago, some tinkering -- inadvertent or otherwise, reduced or somehow lost some of the "skill level" with respect to camo and maskscent for some rangers;"

10-15-04
"Bugs: Camo skill doesn't work consistantly vs NPC as the text says it should. (no true confirmation from devs of what to expect from it, or change in game text)"

kimi raikonnen - kauri

end quote

So apparently no one is sure Gonna go give it a whirl now.

See now you got me all confused. To my knowledge it never works on NPC's. I have been on Lok for quite a few days now and those pirates aggro constantly. I am taking down Kimo's and I get to close to a spawn of these pirates and boom laser fire all around.

I will continue to test this tonight, but to my knowledge any red con NPC will aggro as will any yellow con if the -faction is high enough. That is regardless of camo.

I've also noticed, that while mounted, /maskscent works better than /conceal.
While on foot, my camo is way better than maskscent. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this or just co-incidence on my part?

Oh well, who knows. Just another one of those skill mods that no one knows if it's really working or not I guess . I do know for a fact that at one time in the past they "fixed" camo so it wouldn't work on npcs, and announced it in patch notes. For some reason I remember it being a little bit after they introduced /areatrack. Maybe I can find those ancient patch notes floating about...
