You've not missed much... if ever there was a candidate for testing the new Death Star, I'd nominate Talus.

My first house was on the Mospic Plains, Tatooine (it's the first valley across to the west, runs from the Jundland Wastes up towards Tusken territory). I moved from there to the Western Dune Sea then back to the Mesric Plateau.
Every server I've got a character with a house on has had a house on the exact same hill, 750m SW of the Espa med centre. I just like the view of sunrise over Espa from there
I did once find a house that'd been dropped right on the SE corner of the Tat map, so close that the only thing you could do was step inside and access the control terminal. Was pretty desolate and isolated out there and, if I were more 'hard core wilderness guy' I'd head out that way.
Right now though I have a house on Dantooine, Tatooine and Naboo. Just for variety I guess.
deffinatley dath or yavin4 if we could build ranger huts (aka permanent camps) but for now i like lok. next to talus its probally the least inhabited planet and i like to be left alone. i maintain a GH and a dead city literally in the middle of nowhere in the deep south close to mt chaolt. what i like is there is always a kimo spawn near by and i have an obsession with killing them, especially the GDKs.
my first house was on tat, but once i was good enough to survive on lok i placed a GH there and have lived there ever since. 11km rides from nym's are fun! to me the lok indurance race is like an every day commute, it gets 300m close to my GH jsut after is goes over chaolt.
I used to have a house about 1.5 k northwest of theKrayt Graveyard POI WP but it was such a pain in the @$$ to get to (even using the shuttle to Kraytia) that i gave up and moved it to the shores ofOasis South about 1 km SW of Tatooine. Then I moved to my current GH on Dantooine just east of the downed AT-AT.
So call it biased but i like Dantooione the best, then Tatooine. It must be an "-tooine" thing... 
I'd say either Rori or a deeply forested region of Naboo.
When I think of rangers, I think of swamps and forests, not sure why....
