neat idea but...

as is already stated the devs have focused on nothing but bh jedi then entertainers/stuff no one cares about*cough* vet rewards *cough* like with commando i'm afraid they will continue to ignore ranger as they focused solely on jedi/bh in the last 4 patches and two publishes (at least)

They have stated before that any structure that has a vendor in it cant be packed up. So no worries there.

Actually what your talking about is taking camps a bit further. We would really need a high level ranger lodge taking up one lot with a limit of items. Which is something that we have asked for for quite some time.

Using it for a camp I just cant see. First of all the way camps are so buggy right now I wouldnt be surprised that each time you pop a camp with your stuff in it then it just poofs you could potentially lose your stuff. Seeing as the testing/fixing of that camp problem would devote way too much time on a profession whose future/use they have no concrete ideas I really doubt they would spend any time on the idea.

Using camps to hold items means you would have to have one high level reusable camp. As it is right now camps poof after about an hour. These camps would last forever or as long as maintenance is in it? What about when you log out? Will the camp just autopack back into your datapad? What about xp? If we use a camp as a minor house would we gain xp from sitting in our house crafting or whatever?

I love the idea.. honestly. Dont take this as a bash session but I just dont believe they will devote any resources/manpower to doing this. They barely took any time to fix the good bugged trap and didnt fix any others. They wont even touch camps til they absolutely have to.

I honestly believe packing up houses containing items is a precursor to server merges. Its not really a feature unless your a jedi/nomad who needs a house lickety split. Actually I bet jedi will love this new feature so they can at least be in comfort when they are house hiding.. lol.

I really like the idea at first glance. I just dont see them devoting the time and resources to adding in a perk to our profession that may or may not be viable once they finally get around to revamping/fixing the Ranger profession.

why? What do jebeye need camps for? You already move your houses at will..........poor silly jebeye, should have been a Ranger

Pst, I think he was joking (when we came up with the idea of invisibility when using camo they gave it to riflemen and jedi)

hehe, even if it was my idea, i wouldn't take offense...

about all the impossibilities of it - i really, really see it as possible now... more so than it has ever been... here's why:

1) "packing up" a house - in the new coding you will be able to take something from the world, and pack it into your datapad for use in the real world later... granted, houses take lots and maintenance, but they are persistant... camps would not be persistant, they would be just like they are currently.. which makes them more like:

2) multipassenger ships - the coding behind "packing" a house is some near cousin of MP ship coding... a multipassenger ship exists in your datapad, and holds items... it does not take a lot or maintenance, and it is not persistant... however, it does stay in your datapad, just as you left it...

3) the devs prefer to add new stuff, than to fix bugs - that's a pretty well documented statement... this is new, andhas nothing to do with old bugs... we have a shot!... hehe

for now, it's not asking for much to ask for item storage in the camps... we've known they could do it since the first item-storage droids showed up... granted, that's the most simple version... but if they can do it with something as complex as a house or multipassenger ship, they can use that same technology to do it with camps...

for the early stages... don't think of it as having the ability to decorate a camp (i agree, that's a hell of a lot more work than they'llgive us... at least for some time)... think of it likestorage droids -item storage in the datapad... the difference being, we have a "camp control device" instead of a "droid control device"...

Ok... so first of all I'd like to make it clear that I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY like this idea...

but

a permanent/semi-permanent structure that can contain items is what the devs call a 'house' and I rather suspect that IF they went any way towards giving us a structure with this sort of utility it'd end up being:

a) made by architects,
b) take up a housing plot (items storage is linked to number of plots) and
c) would charge maintainence (both while placed and when in the datapad).

Having said THAT, I'd buy one

QFE with modifications

Master Rangers will be the only ones creating them (they are camps after-all) but will require items from MAs (electronics for the terminal), DEs (Satellite dish), Archs (power gen for satellite dish and crafting stations), Tailors (leaky canopy), AS+WS combined item (to make the laser fence work).

Agreed that droids and POB ships are good codebases.

side note: They sort-of gave us one of our requests in the usual twisted dev way... we wanted BF heal ability in camps at some level (with an entertainer in the group), well now we don't have to worry about it so we sort-of got what we asked for

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it!!!

Thinking more in this issue today i have come to think that it wont ever happen due toafew reasons already hightlighted. I dont think the devs ever want to make camps perma, and if you can place items in a camp they have to be perma to an extent. Thats the main point really. And i cant see us getting around it.

I still and always will love the idea of a lodge/house that can be placed by sufficiently qualified rangers on advanced planets but i cant see it happening just yet.

I don't know if you've noticed this, but some traps, usually hand-crafted ones, are remaining on the planet as white boxes through the Radar, and you can actually see the traps scattered along the ground. That was an always-present thing pre-CU, and post CU it's kind of random, but if they didn't notice that then maybe this won't matter? I mean, If they fixed the spawn system there'd be enough space to put some Ranger lodges on the advanced planets.
