Well..they see the vehicle.. and should get scared off by that.. but if they can't smell you inside the vehicle, then you should still get the scout xp for it.. casue well.. we've succesfully masked your scent from the creature... Obviusly your speeder isn't going to make a very good ranger.. but you are

Depends on the creature doesn't it ? I might go for a howling rasp being scared off, but do you really think that whining tin can is going to scare off an enraged rancor ?

It's going to want to find that particular mosquito and swat it, hard.

It looks like this maskscent idea has been picked up by the scout correspondent, so it looks like it might be getting some attention soon.

Sorry

The maskscent idea is OK, but I'd prefer a different one. Like as a Ranger, we can still /harvest while on the mount. That way if we're riding accross the plains shooting at animals wedon't have to get down to harvest.

Always a pet peeve and why I don't ride as much really..heh.

I dunno, I'd like to see more drastic boosts, the maskscent change is a bit of a nerf, but won't affect most people too badly, it just might make mounts a bit more viable for hunting groups (people on harvester runs can still just run like buggery to get to their harvesters).

Like /conceal, which is being nerfed this patch to stop it working vs. NPCs, a change I fail to understand - animals detect you usually through smell, so /maskscent works fine as a /conceal against critters, so why are there two skills that now do exactly the same thing ?

/conceal should work like proper camouflage, it should be a maskscent against NPCs and even players, I'd like to see it made MORE powerful, not less, master ranger takes a hell of a lot of points and really doesn't do very much (I could be wrong, but I've had a look and I don't even see any /maskscent bonuses in the ranger tree ANYWHERE).

Yea, I agree... rangers are too powerful and need to be nerfed, rofl.

We will be.....we will beee......cough (to paraphrase Yoda). I mean, with Forage as powerful as it is, it is just a matter of time before we get (another) nerf. To get back on topic (sort of) never ask the devs to take away a skill (masked on a bike) unless you are going to ask for something bigger in return.

Here's what changes we need to have mounts viable again:

1) Mounts should go much faster on hilly terrain than vehicles.

2) You should be able to use ANY attack from a mount - or at least if you're a Master Ranger (preferable, because Rangers need some love) or Master CH.

3) /maskscent, /conceal and /areatrack should all work from a mount.

With these changes in place, you would see true hunters using mounts again. Vehicles would still be great for speed, so most folks would probably keep both around.

Yeah, ever since that Melon nerf back in June or July, all the noobs want 3 melons instead of 1, and /forage is the only way to get them.

Before vehicles came out, I knew they would bite into the mount market. I still use my mount on short runs. However, one way to make sure that vehicles and mounts have their "place" would be to limit vehicles to flatland, low angle slopes and low brush areas. Mounts could negotiate the tougherterrain and make them a more viable form of transportation in the wilderness.

/agree. I have seen very very few mounts since speeders came out. Being a ranger, I wanted to stick with mounts just for RP purposes. I have a speeder and a carrion spat. I have been trying to find a lesser dewback mount for some time, because they are faster, and I would use it for solo missions. But I can't and have been using my speeder most of the time. The carrion spat annoyes me.

I just look a lot better on my lesser dewback with my T-21 out, wearing my hunting outfit than I do on my speeder bike....

The maskscent idea is good if you want to make scouts/rangers even more useless than they are now.

The Kitten's Diary, Day 781: I have discovered a most delightful way of making life miserable for my captors. Yesterday, I ate the woman's precious begonia, and today I have dismembered the amaryllis in the bedroom window. She is furious over the loss of her darling house plants! I find it highly gratifying.
