This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I understand it's not SOCOM, obviously. What I was thinking, was that since the basic philosophy of concealment is the same, it would be an idea. Spend all points on hiding? No, just have it as a segment of concealment. The Scouts were discussing something similar, so I thought I would see the reaction to something like that here. Thanks for the feedback.

Just for a reference, I delt with how the whole stealth/conceal issue could workin this thread. The part about modifying the radar is hackable. If the server denies the client info on successit would not be. Therfore to be a success with this feature would probably require different thinking and a potentially very powerful effect.

I would be open, however, as a requirement to get this be both Master Ranger/Master Rifleman. You would remove defense choices to get this and this combination would make sense. It's another option in the panthion of options I illustrated to adjust the power of this effect.

I think that introducing something like a ghillie suit into SWG is a great idea! Real snipers use them, and as Riflemen that's essentially what we are, so why not introduce them, or at least something similar. Even adding some sort of Sniper Concealment ability that you can get once you reach MR would be great. That ability could use the Action pool to conceal you for X amount of time, while allowing you to use your special shots undetected until the concealment time is out. How this would work with the radar I have no idea, but I'm sure the Devs could figure something out. Anyway, it's a great idea, but at this point in time I can't see it happening for us.

Fred, thanks for the link to that thread. I liked many of the ideas I read about. Kenno, that is exactly along the lines of what I'm talking about. Almost like an extension of TAKE COVER. As far as it being doable. A Master Rifleman I talked to, who attended the recent Fan Fest, said that he had put out an idea like this to one of the devs he met there and that he and the dev have been corresponding about it and some other ideas. Apparently there is interest in ghillie suits among many in the Ranger profession, as well.

actually we are more of a gunner - high speed attacks with high damage- not Sniper as we can not shot long range and be invisible to the target- with the max range and the fact that we can not be allowed off the radar (would lead to a client side hack). 64m and the devs have stated that we can not be allowed to be invisible/non-targetable on the radar means that Cameo does us no good over what we already have with Conceal Shot. Nice dream but unlikely

You make some good points. I'm thinking long range sniping would be great against creatures and NPC's. No, I wouldn't want it for PvP, because then people would just whine and it really would not be fair to other professions. *SIGH* Oh well. . .

Unfortunately the current servers could not handle to load of increased range. They only track creatures at a range of 64m (ever wondered why they dissappear if you move out of range?) with increase in range they have to handle a substantial larger area worth of information which would bog the system down. 64m range is what we are stuck with for a long long time it appears

How about this. . .

Snipers scan their landscape through their scopes, right? OK. They add the ability to scan your environment up to say 500M. Now this does not involve radar or having the 2 variables, you and the mark on the radar itself, or even onscreen. The ingame dialogue tells you something like:

YOU SCAN YOUR ENVIRONMENT, YOU SEE (INSERT NAME OF A CREATURE OR NPC HERE)AT (INSERT DISTANCE HERE). THIS (TARGET NAME) IS WITHIN YOUR ATTACK RANGE.

You get a window, that shows you the target at the said distance. Now, the target is not actually on screen or in the radar sphere, you just see it through your scope. You then have the option of sniping it, using whatever attacks are within your ability. Viable, doable? What do you think?
