As for being more effective than Master whatever, that is hard to define. In terms of shear killing power, we probably shouldn't be. We do get other skills as well. But we should be extremely useful for a hunting party or for gathering resources. Using tactics we should be able to kill anything that any other class would kill through brute force. It might take us longer but not to the point that our harvesting rate is at all hurt. Whereas they might go in and tank 3 rancors, we would pull one with a trap, use other traps to weaken it, kill it, skin it, and repeat. And we should come out ahead. We SHOULDN'T get the ability to wander in and tank those three rancors just because we are Master Ranger. I think it is quite important how we specify all of this. We want to be good creature hunters, not just good creature killers.

Now I'm not saying tactics aren't important (I'm a master pistoleer/ranger, how would I survive without them?). But traps, along withmelee/ranged defense +10 and our measly to-hit mod are our onlycombat mods/devicesat the moment, and we all know how effective THOSE are (save for root traps found in scout).

I'm not asking to be some uber tanking, rancor soloing beast master (that would be a TKM ). I just think we need at least SOMETHING to make a noticable difference in our hunting ability. In order to be a good creature hunter, you need to be a good creature killer. This is not to say Ranger should be a combat profession on its own, but it needs some skills/mods that effectively supplement what we basically do: hunt creatures.

I agree with Nemo.

I'd place it above camo and traps, but just below harvesting and camps.

it just simply needs to be increased.

it could play off the animals strengths and weaknesses like armor does.

maybe the creatures natural defense bonus goes down as the rangers skill goes up?

"Don't shoot the kreetle in its back, aim for its belly"

It could be like a squad leaders "rallies" and what not, a group bonus to hit a creature cause the "ranger told you where to shoot"

Creature to hit bonuses should apply to specials as well.

I'd also like a "Lair Attack" that will take lairs down much quicker.

well yeah, the definition of 'creature hunter' makes all the difference. I can see two different ones: best critter killer and most efficient hunter (right now, a Master Scout, Master TKA, Master Medic is more efficient in harvesting then a Master Ranger, Master TKA, that's how I define most efficient in this case)

I'd be happy enough with most efficient hunter, making us not as good in combat as master combat folks, but harvesting much more and with traps to decrease damage and induce state effects. Result after one hour hunting: combat guy is quicker in killing the animal, but needs an extra medpack to do it, and after an hour, we have more organics to show for it.

However, I do think our knowledge should make a lot of difference in combat efficiency as well. reconsidering, I think a MasterBH or master commandowould indeed be quicker in killing a rancor, they're elite hybrids. But a master non-hybrid elite (a pistoleer or a pikeman, etc) would be LESS combat efficient against animals, putting someone with Master Ranger right in the middle of the non-hybrids and the hybrids.

But yes, it all depends on your definition of what a Ranger should be able to do, best killer or most efficient killer.

This might just be me but...

I don't see any of yourposts stickied, none at all. I only see four stickies, the last being the state of the prof. by Nraas

Are my forum settings messed up or something?

Rather than a creature damage mitigation, which would have to be stackable to make it useful, (then could you see Ranger being the flavor of the month profession?)

I would propose a + Creature Dodge ability that would go along with the change of our + to hit creatures to finally being applied to melee attacks as well.

In my opinion, this would not encroach upon the damage mitigation present in the combat professions, simultaneously it would give us what we want by allowing us to dodge more effectively the animal's attacks.

secondly,
Poison/ Disease resists
(maybe a craftable homeopathic/ naturopathic herbal prevention) the problem with that is, there is a chef food that already gives that ability.
Instinctively, I would just go for a + modifier for poison/ disease resistance.
