Thread: Droid Tracking Function: How would we feel if...

Im my opinion,

Firstly, thanks for the post, new ideas really refresh the boards

Now my opinion
The droid should really not allow non-rangers to do ranger stuff, this would be like buying a dancer-bot to heal my battle fatigue. however, it should allow rangers to do what they do even better. The module could increase range....or scan while moving

Here is an example, I ask my ranger droid to track a flesh eating chuba (this information is stored on the database/ bestiary that is a ranger droid module)... This is programmed into it, and as i move around, I get a beep from my droid letting me know that it has found one.
This would be a valuable resource for any ranger, rather than asking the group "hold on and let me track".
I agree in principle with Rancorridor, we should not be replaced by a robot (ask all the GM workers in Flint Michigan how they felt when robots replaced them) but i personally have no problem of using technology to aid my Ranger skills.

Thanks again for the post, i look foward to reading further responses

Alright guys,

I really don't like this idea at all. The only skills that I fell that a ranger has that are really worth while are the tracking skills. The high tech camps are neat, but aren't really much in addition to what a scout has. As it stands the tracking skill really doesn't work well enough (in my opinion). Most people can draw missions for almost anything we track. Don't give up our best skill that makes us stand out.

Devs clearly do not play their creations and are utter clueless as to the results of their nerfs. They seem to be in love with their ideas and ignore the results.

While you are in there...

  • A droid that offers crude surveyor and 1 unit sampling abilities

  • A droid able to apply stimpack A and buffpacks (in camp only) and perhaps some wound healing

  • A droid that offers tank abilities, like the probots USED to.

I don't mind this idea, not in the least. However,a true professional in the ability the droid module provides must always be better.

I have to agree with Rancorrider. I don't see the need to give skills away. As far as the suggestions to what a ranger droid could enchance...I think tracking is fine. It weadd featuresto have it notifiy us when a particular creature is near...we aren't hunting (sorry Agon). I do think it would be nice if we could store the meat/bone/hide qualities as data somewhere, but we shouldn't get a list of qualities that we didn't earn, or notification that the resource has changed. I still think we should be able to tell resource qualities if we examine a creature, however. I think that part of Ranger is harvesting resources, but we are not creature harvesters...we are OUTDOORSMEN and should have to earn all of our info, not have it handed to us on a platter. I guess the only thing I like about the droid module would be to expand our tracking range. Wow...this horse is pretty high, and I would like to get off now....

My take on the entire droid scene seems not to flow with the way it will work, but it seems to me like the way it should most make sense. Each profession in my opinion should get certs for droids with speciffic modules intended to enhance their skills. So instead of someone owning a droid that can do anything as long as it has the module, someone would have a droid that is geared specifficaly towards their skills. So your idea would work if it worked only for rangers. it enhances their ability to track by extending their range, setting waypoints, supplying more information etc. Entertainers would use droids that add light shows to their performances making healing faster. Artisans would be able to create their items faster with the aide of a droid with the propper module. Chefs would have droids that "serve" their food to you like waiters. That's what droids are meant to be, something to make life easier, to do part of the work for you, and to do the menial tasks that humans don't want to do.

I hate the idea of combat droids, and the idea of having a droid grant a player skills that exist in some other profession. Yes, artoo was able to scan hoth for the life signs of luke to see if he was still alive, but not everything will translate directly from the movies to the game.

On the flip side I also thing droids could open up more avenues for business between professions. As a ranger, I would love to have a droid companion that could act as a sort of beastiary, keeping track of all the creatures I attacked, their ham and all other stats, how quickly they were dispatched, what weapons did how much dammage, stuff like that. Then I could make discs of this information and sell it to other players. Just as an entertainer could record a performance using their droid and sell copies of that performance to others to use in their droids when an entertainer isn't around, like in a camp, in order to heal some mind wounds and dare I say a little BF if we ever get that ability.

That's how I see it, but unfortunatly I feel like I am just a tiny voice in the storm.

Im not so sure about this.

Frankly - 250m radius is useless -- especially with limited functionality. Any more would definatly be unfair to us, so I would have to say its not worth the programmers time putting that part in.

I would also like to mention that although increased functionality would be nice, things like Factional affiliation and guild or whatever shouldnt be added as a part of the droid's ability. Those should be built into our class if put in at all.

If this happened I would have to say:

Rangers only, Increase the range. Keep it simple.

Scanning for things like creatures with certain meat types etc. would be nice, but again, im not sure if this would be useful. If your out there you can figure this stuff out easy enough anyway.

I have found that the 500m in PVP and PVE is adequate and useful. Thats radius mind you, its no small distance.

Maybe this droid could make the ranger scans active instead of passive (Ie: increase our radar range to 500m -- not telling us the creature names etc. just the colour of the dots.)

That might be too hard for the system though. Who knows..

There ya go. BHs want more skills for less points.

This isn't a bad idea at all. Limit it to Rangers only. That way the BHs can go pound sand. I really really wish they would be taken out of the scout line entirely.

This module for tracking should be a combination deal, like with RIS armor. Not many armorsmiths are bad enough to get the resources, so it has to bea co-operative effort.

Make this module a co-op effort between Rangers and DEs. Rangers have to find certain resources, semi-rare to rare - to give to the DE to build the module. Again, the module is Ranger only. As you say it could boost ranges, enhance examine, etc.

I do agree, no /ar for non-Rangers. So far we "lost" TN and camps, don't want to lose tracking too.
