Thread: What about Bows for Rangers?
I'd enjoy being able to craft a bow with highly selective usefulness. Mainly against animals, for example. But I should have to craft arrows too. I can live with blasters containing their own powerplants, but unlimited arrows from thin air would be ridiculous.
Same sort of idea with blowguns. A short-range weapon, no good against armor, but more effective than our dart traps and with a high likelihood of Conceal Shot effect.
Ummm, Chewy carried a Crossbow on Endor in Return of Jedi.
And it could be pretty neat - maybe a Crossbow with explosive bolts for instance . . . ![]()
Extending that idea, an improved /maskscent or our promised /conceal would substitute without any undue development overhead (even if at the cost of realism).
That said, hunting with vibro-arrows would be fun-- but that's a diversion we can entertain once they've fixed all the things wrong with our noble profession.
I think they key here is that we're looking for a "Ranger" specific combat bonus. I think what you are looking for is one of two things...
1) Silent Attack... or being able to attack without giving away your position (aka /conceal)
or
2) Poision... a kamino dart or similar attack that does DOT
woohoo, yeah, get us a bow.
Then I want to loot a stone knife from one someone.
Then I will live in the woods, dressed only in my underwear, eating grubs and berries I forage.
(Didn't I see this on King of the Hill ??)
I have been told that my sarcasm sometimes escapes people, so let me make it simple ---
I WANT BIGGER AND BETTER WEAPONS, NOT SOME STUPID SILLY BOW AND A HANDFUL OF ARROWS.
Here comes the rogue (insert large animal from your world). Fearless Ranger Bob shots it with his bow. Animal walks over, squashes Ranger Bob, eats him and uses his remains to fertilize the landscape.
Sean Connery said it best, tho I have to paraphrase... don't bring a knife to a gunfight.
