I'm a ranger and I love it.

My beef with /conceal isn't that I want to be invisible on people's radar, I just don't wan't to be a bright red dot on their screen. When I'm concealed make me a yellow, blue, or even better, purple dot on their radar. I'm concealed, they shouldn't want to pay attention or take notice of me.

My 2 creds.

Hi All,

ya know, maybe im a looser, but i finished the 4th level of trapping in about 2 hours, using Phacine darts and glowtraps, then bonespurs, and kicked butt! I am looking forward to grinding out my survival, which i hate because it means hours of sitting, but i still think ranger is the way to go.

I aggree with alot of the suggestions, and look forward to them being fixed, but i have a few that i havent seen;

why cant i lay down on my cots in the camp?

why cant i actually go inside the camp tent? (allowing for a conceal modifier for visual aggro creatures, including NPC's and PC;s)

why not add a weapon or generic crafting station to the high tech camp kit, since thats what we need to craft camps and eqiup? (with the ability to experiment) or allow us to carry and place a crafting station in our camp if we want to.

allow stim paks that require meat, hide and bone to be crafted by master scouts or rangers (limit them to stim a's)

have the ability to create a permanent master camp, that allows you to pay maintenence, store items and create a mechanical vendor to sell scout/ranger collected/specific items.

just some ideas!

If you don't like running 5km back to the Krayt graveyard, make sure you take a couple medics with you who have the skill to resurrect!

Um Iabog... there is a weapon, generic, droid crafting station along with the food/chemical crafting station in the HTFB. It's just on the other side of the camp.

i became a ranger mastering it and all for the perpose of creature harvesting and of corse the cool camps

when i became marster there was no area track and that seems to not work well with the curent spawn ie i do an /ar when i can see a nest and it shows no mobs i than move one meter closer to the nest and i now see the mobs so it doesnt seem to work as it should

well it didnt take me long to realise as a pistoleer /ranger i was not a very good creature harvester

the 2 professions that work better for this seem to be ch and commando ie being able to take out large creatures ect that give a decent amount of hides

so i started droping my ranger skills and picking up ch skills and for what i wanted to do in the game this imho was the best soulution for me

i still beleave a ranger should out harvest any profession time wise that is nice to get the bonus harvest as a ranger but this is a rather mute point when some one else with scout skills and a heavy weapon can kill larger creatures faster meaning they can harvest more in any given amount of time and no i dont want to see any other class nuked but would like to see our harvest rates rise

another anoying thing is the 60% rule in groups if you group with a scout you only harvest at 60% ofthere soloharvest not 60% of your solo harvest this is a rip off and hope they fix this

i have retained camp and track lines and if rangers get some much needed lovin i may very well marster it once again fingures crossed

well, im going for master ranger too, and really agree with all your ideas for the camps. Make the RANGER camps not poof when u enter combat, but make the SCOUT ones go poof. The HTFB should have a cloning center, but you take 1/2 the wounds..taht way, its better than all the wounds, but still gives medics a reason to go on the hunt. Camo kits should make you appear white on the radar, and SCOUT traps should work on wild animals...RANGER traps should work on NPC, wild animals, and tamed animals. Area track range needs to be upped to around 500m or more...it sucks right now...

Just my two cents as to how the ranger class could be better AND still stay a support class...

Sorry to hear that you are leaving the profession, but liked some of your suggestions. I knew that I wanted to be one from day one, so to each his own, I suppose. And if I ever get one of those holocrons that is supposed to tell you what professions you are supposed to master to put you on your way to unlocking the FS slot, and it doesnt say master ranger then I will never open my FS slot.
But anyway, good luck in whatever you do, and as always:

Well...
I really like the concept of a Ranger as a solo frontirsman out hunting and trapping to gather resources; a solo person hunting in the wild. The Ranger is billed as such but doesn’t function as well in the role as other class combos. I Dropped Master Ranger and all the lines except Frontiering. (the only line I really hated moving up.) So ifthe other lines get fixed or better I can grab them again.

What I found was:

1) Creatures are better traps than traps…
a. Ranger traps are useless as is. They don’t have any noticeable effect.
b. A tanking pet holds better than the snares.
c. Pets have the dizzy and other specials. (Even if specials don’t work)
d. Pets can poison and disease the enemy.
e. Pets can be used again and again.
f. Pets can switch between targets.
g. Pets work against Players and their Pets.

2) Cost of time and resources > than usefulness of Cammo Kits. (If I want to avoid a fight I can get equal or better results just by using MS and overhead CTR-M map to avoid Red mobs.)

3) Area track has way too small a radius. Again the CTR-M shows the mobs that the AT would tell me are there… Then I tab to see what the creatures are that I see on the map.

4) The increased harvesting is not nearly enough. The points spent in combat skills result in faster kills that get more harvested material over time.

5) The creature to hit bonus is not worth it because if you spend the points in combat skills those to-hit bonuses are higher and work on NPCs, PCs (and their pets) as well as Creatures. Combat skills generally provide speed increase that also helps to kill Creatures.

6) The Field Base is cool looking but the fence does nothing and it doesn’t last. In pickup groups there are always people who need the skill points in camping so they resent the camp when you don’t need the points. Only really good for solo if you don’t have med skills.

So while my play style is that of an outdoorsman who hunts for resources I find that (at this time) the Ranger has little to offer that style of play; regardless of the fact that it is billed as filling that role.
