pretty much the profession that I outlined in the Outdoorsman. I want to be an Outdoorsman. A person whose skills work in all aspects of the game, like every other combat profession out there. Like you said, we're the only ones who can't use our skills in all aspects of the game. That's BS.


I want a role in the GCW. I want to be able to PvP. I don't want to be able to solo double elite level 90 creatures, then turn around and have to run from a level 75 NPC because I havea bunch of points in Ranger that do nothing in that part of the game.


I want to expand upon our skillset...this idea limits it.


Either way, making us harvest better stuff isn't the answer. Giving us the tools to hunt more efficiently is the answer.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Yes, I would like that too. I would happily let superscouts harvest whatever the hell they want if I had some more content. But do you think the Devs will even consider the outdoorsman idea? I mean, I havent been playing that long really, but I have seen plenty of ranger fixes- here smugglers, have some snares and roots, and here crafters, you can use camo too now! And dont forget, the upcoming "Haha, no more soloing critters for you rangers" poptart nerf. Go ahead and nerf the poptart, but at least fix every single other trap while you are at it so that they do something.


And what have I seen of the Jedi? Complete overhauls of the system, new FRS coming, fixes DAYS after bugs are reported... frankly, I dont have any hope in the devs doing anything for us at all. We ask for a reason to camp, sonmething cool, and instead they say "Well if you dont want to camp, you dont have to now" and hey look, there's another skill line out the window.

couple of things. They FIXED the pop-tart. It's not a freaking nerf when they fix an broken aspect of the game. I used it, yeah...but I'll feel better about soloing GDKs when I actually have to move around. oh teh noes!!!


secondly, yes, I do think they'll get around to Rangers. Yes, I do think they're going to fix things. I had the pleasure of meeting Tiggs in NJ, and I was pleasantly surprised about how much she knew about our forums. She even talked about our hat for pete's sake.


You have no faith...that's fine. But it seems pretty odd to me for you to say that youhave no faith in the devs insofar as them making extensive changes to Ranger when you're in a thread asking them to entirely revamp the harvesting system in our favor.

Sure, the poptart was a fix. I've even said I am happy about it since all the people who toekened to solo krayts will go away now, including several people in my guild. But none fo the other traps work at all- if they are going to fix the one that is working, even it its working ebtter than it should, they fix the others as well. Now, master ranger has another two useless lines. I would classify that as a nerf.


And really, it's maybe not perhaps that I have no faith as much as that I fear having a skill revamp. Someone started a topic even about that- the CU completely changed combat.Ents get their little revampthis coming publish- woopdydoo, throwtheir only use (BF healing) out the window.I mean, there are things I think need to be done about ranger but if we get the Devs version of a revamp I fear that we wont even recognize the finished product.

It is an interesting idea that I came across last year. It was with a long time player who commented to me while we were out hunting that I shouldhave better hides than him, I told him no..same as yours. But his thought that Rangers got better oq on hides than a scout always stuck with me asa nice idea. But as nice idea's go in this game...not to happen!!


yup..i'm negative on any upgrades, I don't think we will ever get one to be honest...what we see is what we get and I'll live with it. But I won't stop commenting on it.

Just give the scout lines a slight failure possibility when harvesting, which grants them half the xp they would have received.

I dont think Rangers should be focused on harvesting either but I do think we should be better at it than a Master Scout.


I think these changes would work better.


1. We as Master Rangers get to harvest all resources from a creature.


2. We as Master Rangers get100%increase in the return of a Master Scout. this way it doesnt take away from them just adds to us.( example: Master Scout harvests100 units of meat, Master Ranger harvests 200 units of meat, 200 of bone and 200 of hide)


3. We get to choose if we want totake more time and care and get a 200% increase on one type ofresource.


4. WE GET A RANGER HAT!!!!!!!


With these changes we aren't messing with the qualities of the resources but the ranger can produce more in a shorter period which isnt a henderince on anyone just a perk of being a ranger.

And Phen, truthfully, I would really like to see the Outdoorsman ideas get into a revamp rather than some dumb organics revamp to make us better harvesters. And i am not trying to stir things up (not on the ranger boards at least, I dont see what the problem is with poking the Jedi everyonce in a while). Maybe a combination of a crappy week and bad weather but I am feeling like a good revamp will happen less and less. And when I see people doing the job I should be getting, it tickles the little spot in my mind... well, ya know, that little spot lol

I put a much simpler solution on the revamp thread.


Put a device in a master ranger camp that acts as a distiller.


Only a master ranger harvested resources would work. Other people couldnt trade their resources to him and have him do it. Basically the way it would work is if you harvest some stuff, put it in the distiller and the stats will go up 10%. The modified resources will have a tag on it much like when someone crafts an item or when a wep is sliced and it says it has been enhanced by a ranger.

Remember, there is a large databsae issue here. Every different set of stats for a resource needs a database entry. If there are 4 sets of stats possible for a specific type of resrouce, there will be four database entries. Multiply that be the number of animal resource types, and you get a big number. Now, remember that resources shift every couple of days/weeks, and the databse gets out of control pretty quickly. This reason is why the recycle kits always give the same (crappy) stats, instead of a range of stats.

I would love to see the day where being a better harvester gives you better stats on resources, but I can see why it probably will never happen.

The main issue is that SOE has always defended their position of trying to force grouping and keeping the game predominantly social in nature. From that perspective SOE should be quite satisfied with groups of scouts hunting. In fact, it is probably safe to say that SOE does not care if the group has all scouts, all rangers or a mix just that it is a group of people working together. SOE also views the artisan/crafting aspect of the economy as pivitol to their game implementation and I would NEVER expect then to make a change allowing Rangers to be the end all of organics farming.

Good point Serraphin. Granted the increase to the ammount of units harvested post-cu is far better than pre-cu, I would personally like a more defined edge over scouts as far as quantity. Either a boost in stats on resources we gather, or multiple resources from the same creature ie hide meat and bone all from 1 critter.

I like the idea behind this. I agree, it might be challenging to implement changes in the stats. However, I think we could make drastic changes in harvestable amounts that would accomplish the same end.


I'd like to see a spread something like this: Novice scout 10 units plus Ranger bonus of 5 more, Master Scout50 units plus Ranger bonus of25 more, Novice Ranger 100 units plus Ranger bonus of 50 more, Master Ranger 1000 units (per harvest and adjusted for spawn concentration).


I believe that Ranger should be creature oriented. There is nothing that prevents a Ranger from mastering a combat profession. My toon mastered Carbineer. She is just as effective in PvP as the double combat profs she fights with. I don't subscribe to the notion that Ranger limits you in any way related to PvP.


I'd like to see SOE focus on creature related content and skills for Ranger. The Squad Leader prof is well suited for Army Ranger class activities. There is nothing wrong with those. I just believe the professions should be differentiated that way.
