I can understand why, here is the thread (check out the date
):
Harvesting costs
It was a request to need a hunting knife in your inventory to actually /harvest.
- The condition of the knife would reduce each time a harvest was performed.
- It was intended as a means to boost Artisan equipment sales.
A part ofthe requestwas increased harvest depending on the quality of knife used.
Ah, thank you, NRaas

Only reason im doing the holo, I'm just getting bored of the game...and want some random professions to be selected for me. If the fs is open for me then so be it...not to worried about it. Im thinking this whole ranger thing will be addictive...uh oh

Woo, so Rangers will still be special! They can do something that Jedi can't!

I did give those up Vol, and more, even medic. You get used to it

The lure of the Ranger is seductive.
I have never wanted to play a Ranger in any other MMORPG or even in any pen-and-paper RPG. The class generally doesn't appeal to me.
But there's something about the SWG implementation that calls to me.
I mean, I make a decent living off my Artisan skills. I have Engineering IV and Domestic Arts IV, and between the two (plus the Human +15 Artisan Experimentation bonus), I make between 55-60k every 3-4 days just selling Food and Chemical Crafting Tools on the Bazaar. And Surveying 3 helps me find good spots for harvesters and the like. So I'm not in any real hurry to get rid of these skills. Consequently, my plan is to just be an 0/0/4/0 Ranger.
But I frequently catch myself contemplating the idea of selling off all my Artisan skills to become Master Ranger (and I'd have to sell 'em ALL off, including Novice Artisan -- thus giving up Survey and Sample -- in order to be a Master Ranger/Master Rifleman).
I'm not sure I want to do that.
But the fact that I think about it at all -- much less think about it as often as I do -- says something about the allure of the profession.

DAMMIT, FRED, IT'S CALLING TO ME! I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER I CAN RESIST!
I was hunting on Endor last night and wound up with some wounds. So I quickly put together a High Quality Camp (or whatever the Novice Ranger camp is) and had a little sit-down. AND MY WOUNDS HEALED! RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!
And Adhesive Mesh gives me wood when it works and lasts a while. I would sell small children to the Ewoks if it would give me the ability to experiment on the stack quanity and duration of traps.
At this point, if the social aggro changes go in and Conceal Shot isn't nerfed into uselessness, I'm pretty certain I'll take the plunge and go after Master Ranger. Conceal Shot + the social aggro changes will allow me to significantly increase my ability to harvest animal resources, which will more than adequately cover the money I'd be losing by dropping all my Artisan skills.
