If you are becoming a Ranger, you should already have a sense for what patrons might need. However...

Someone who desires your services will contact you in game, not here, and propose a contract. This can be for particular resource spawns (Yavin avian meat, etc.), for any of a type of resource (wooley hides, etc.), for various other organics (usualy meats), or for tracking. There are other things Rangers can do, especially those with the Rifleman tree; it's all handled case by case.

For instance, I get lots and lots and lots of /tells from Jedi looking for someone to do the legwork for them to find rare spawns (Grauls Marauders, for instance). I also have a current contract to fill an enormous hide order for a Master Tailor. I have also been hired to track PCs for various reasons and to scout during PvP events.

You will work out a pricing scheme during conversation with a prospective patron, although many will simply offer some exhorbitant sum of credit to track down some elusive critter. Most also have no idea what it takes to actually get the work done and what it is worth, so you will often be able to name your own price. I have found that most prospects are fairly patient, especially those who have some idea of how difficult our jobs can be at times, but I have also found that the least patient are generally those renowned for their patience: Jedi.
