Thread: OT: salute to the chip butty
hehe nice site.
Yeah its all in what you percieve fries and chips to be. To us chips are thick and chunky lumps of potato wheras fries and really thin sticks of potato. Very similar but the way they are prepared distinguishes them like so many other dishes. Its a very british and european thing but fries to most people are just a different type of potato dish, just like potato wedges are.
Oreet, you crazy bug. Had to go and revive this one, didn't you? Anyway, take it from this american: chip butties rock. I'd go so far as to say that the chip butty is the only reason we kept the brits around after their empire crumbled. The greeks gave us democracy, the romans gave us plumbing, the ottomans gave us, uh, comfy stools, and the brits gave us this prince of sanwiches.
As you can plainly see, I know lots about history.

To me, as well as most people i know, both McDonalds style of fried potatoes, as well as what you call chips are both French Fries, although the ones you call chips are sometimes called Steak Fries.
and to me, here's how i see it:
McDonalds-Style: Bad Fries
Chip-Style ones: Good Fries
and here i was gonna go bump the hat thread... luckily i came to my senses...
i guess it was just a very "necro kinda day"...
