Thread: Something I will miss.

Now I know have not posted a lot until recently (I've been a lurker) and I am actually only fairly low in the skill tree I am a future Master Ranger. One day we will get attention. We will get some love and traps will be more effective, camps will have a purpose, we may even have stealth. One thing I will miss is our current community. With any fix will come an influx of new players to the profession. While this is good in that we will all have new hunting partners and more people to throw ideas around it will also bring an end to the current Ranger community. With the exception of a few bad apples everyone gets along very well. We have many constructive conversations and you are all just great people to be around in general. I can't shake the feeling that this will all change with a revamp.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic but it is truely how I feel. I actually like the low number of Rangers as it makes being one that much more important to me. If i see a Teras Kasi Master I don't think anything special about him. If I see a Master Ranger, as rare as that may be, I feel proud to be a Ranger as well. I know the hard work and true dedication we have to the profession. I really don't see that in any other profession and fear that it could be disrupted by a revamp.

Now don't get me wrong. I am all for the revamp as I think it will give us a bigger role in the game and just make us an all round better profession but I am quite happy with how the profession is now. I don't think it is "broken." It just needs some love.

Well said.

My other profession is Swordsman and I don't want to sound snobbish but I've seen exactly what your afraid of happen with them already.

I wanted to be a swordsman the day I got the game (still am one) but I remember it was a lot different then. I would go weeks without ever seeing another one and I actually had to pay for a lot of my upper level training.

Things changed though, people starting running numbers and stacking uber templates to make those unhittable monsters you see running around buffed all the time soloing Krayts and Nightsister Elders. Templates went from Master Swordsman/Master Weaponsmith to Master Swordsman/Fencer 4-4-0-0 /TKA 4-0-0-4, packing all the punch a swordsman has to offer while having great defenses and the ability to mediate/heal wounds and diseases/buff yourself.

The boards are just crap now. Instead of trying to figure out how to make swordsman a better profession, the discussion is about "I soloed this yesterday," or "which templates/buffs/weapons will make me uber as hell so I can run around destroying everything." I don't even bother to check them anymore. Its disgusting, and I don't even like wearing my Master Swordsman title I was so proud of back when, I can't stand to be included in with those idiots.

In fact, I can't wait for the day they nerf the hell out of us, so I can just have my swordsman back! ...lol

*clears throat

Sorry for rambling, what I meant to say was its a valid concern but I don't think things are going to get that bad. If we are fun and useful, yet still balanced and fair I don't think that many FOTM people will flock to our profession.

And don't forget about all those X-Rangers who are still out there, just waiting for a sign to bring them back. Some of those "founding rangers" helped contribute to the great atmosphere we have now, and it would be an honor to have them return to our ranks.

There are 10 types of people in this world... those who know binary and those who don't.

When I see a Ranger I think hologrinder. lol. Sad but true.

And frankly.... if getting anew bunchof locals in this forum is the worst of a revamp then I say bring it on.

New home of SWG Rangers!

"Ranger isnt a profession. Its a lifestyle for sure. But upon the desert plains of Tattooine that wandering hermit you see was once a proud Ranger. It may not be a profession anymore but the lifestyle can never be lost, changed or deleted. "

Whenever I train a new Ranger to Master I often make a point of following them for a few mins, they normally do the following, in this order: -

1. Leave city by nearest route

2. Make HTFB at first opportunity (This is normally the last skill they master after all)

3. Area track something, but never actually move off towards anything.

4. Return to city and visit nearest NPC trainer to start new profession, I assume dumping Ranger on the way.

I used to turn my title off. (from another thread)

I think the title Master Ranger is akin to Master **** wiper.

I just turn it off. No need to get laughed at all night.

To which I got this reply:

Ehope - are you kidding? I'm sure that if you stood in Coronet, people would litterally pay you to display your Master Ranger title. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if someone paid you daily to do a quick exhibition at our few Galaxy Museums.

Master Rangers are legends, here. They're more rare than an ornate rug!

Not really sure if that was sarcasm or not but...I have left my title on these days. /shrug

I'm just wondering what will make me rarer: My Master Ranger title or my soon to be Master Squad Leader title...

I had a dancer in a cantina ask me what a ranger does. It was actually hard to explain. Then she said I think I have seen more Jedi's today than I have seen Master Rangers since I have been playing.

So are we myth, rare, or just outdated?

Taking the thread that asks how many are Masters into consideration -

There are way more Jedi then Master Rangers, and I mean high ranking Jedi too, as most Jedi are power players to the nth degree and have nothing else to do but play about 24/7.

Sadly, I too have trained many to Master Ranger, only to watch them dump it and then start grinding another profession.

Only twice in my game life have I been with two other Master Rangers - once when two townies and I were in the same place (both have since dropped it tho one is coming back) -- and another chance happening at a starport - and people asked to take screenies of 3 Master Rangers together - (both others are gone btw, one quit the game and one dropped Ranger for other stuff).

Only thing more rare, and this is just a guess - is a Master Image Designer - 4 hours to master, a lifetime of uselessness.

I wonder how rare a Master Ranger/Master Squad Leader is. I have seen the occasional Master Image Designer around (even at Ft. Tusken recently), probably because the skill points left over let them get decent other skills. I know of one other person who has tried Squad Leader on Eclipse because they wanted to (I have seen a few others but I'm not sure how many of them were grinding it but I do know that all the ones I asked about it were). But even normal Squad Leader lets you get some more useful skills as well. I'm pretty sure I've heard someone else mention that they were a Ranger/Squad Leaderbut I wonder just how rare this combo is.

I had something happen to me today that just made me grin from ear to ear. I was strolling through Coronet, and got stopped by some one I did not know. He and a friend had apparently been discussing the Ranger path. Anyway, the conversation went something like this:

(Guy 1) Jekker!!

(Me) Hello (name), what can I do for you?

(Guy 1) my friend has some questions about Ranger, and we seem to have lucked out.

(Guy 2) So this is the guy you were telling me about?

(Me) How did you luck out?

(Guy 1) Well, your an old school Ranger, not one of the holo punks, and probably the best source of info for our questions.

(Guy 2) (name) said that you have been a Master Ranger for some time.

(Guy 1) Are you kidding? I haven't seen him without that title in a long time. How long have you been a MR?

(Me) Since October.

..and the oohs, ahhs, and questions went on from there. The fact of the matter is that, would this have happened if I had some other title up, like Fencer, or pistoleer? Probably not.How many of you remember a player just from seeing him with a title over his head? You might for a few minutes if you want something from them, but I had never talked to, or taken an order from these two before. Rangers do get respect, and many people come to me saying that they want me to fill orders because they want the best, and a Master Ranger is just that.

Edited to make it all pretty with colors, cause I am bored waiting for the server to come back up
