Antarian Rangers
a para-military group based on several planets, the Antarian Rangers were formed by Marus Timpel and Kaskutal on Antar 4, some 600 years before the Battle of Yavin. The mission of the Antarian Rangers was simply to assist and aid the Jedi Knights in any way possible, although they were most often employed as front-line troops in battlezones. They were trained to be masters of any environment, in order to meet the various challenges assigned to them. The Jedi Council refused to comment on their position toward the Antarian Rangers, although they allowed it to continute to grow and expand over the years. Many individual Jedi valued their assistance and dedication, especially in situations where military force was needed. In the coming centuries, as the Jedi Order became more conservative and insular, they began to turn away from the use of separate organizations like the Antarian Rangers. This meant that the amount of work available to the Rangers began to diminish, and the organization was forced to drastically reduce its manpower. During the Clone Wars, the Antarian Rangers were able to briefly expand their efforts in support of the Jedi involvement in the war. Unfortunately, whole groups of Antarian Rangers were killed off, and many of the survivors scattered and went underground. Those that remained loyal to the Jedi found themselves hunted down as part of Emperor Palpatine's Jedi Purge, further reducing the organization's size and scope. Only a few groups managed to survive the Galactic Civil War, but they were openly sought out by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. In the years following the Battle of Endor, the organization grew slowly, but proved to be invaluable during the formation and protection of the Great River during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy.

Well seems theres hope for a Few Jedi wannabe Rangers out there.
Kilian Rangers
this was the term used to describe the small band of elite warriors which was established to protect the noble houses of Kilia IV. All members of the Kilian Rangers were sensitive to the Force, and were chosen for their skills in using it. The development of an individual Ranger was much different than that of a Jedi student, but there was similar emphasis on the development of their attunement to the Force. The Kilian Rangers were also similar to the Jedi Knights in that some of their membership fell prey to the Dark Side of the Force. These fallen Rangers became members of the Renegades

My personal Favorite and Theme to My toon.
Sector Rangers
a loose association of local system police forces which filled the gaps in the galactic law enforcement system, the Sector Rangers were created by the planetary governors of the Old Republic. The Senate authorized the formation of the Sector Rangers in an effort to bring law enforcement to newly colonied worlds quickly and efficiently. The Jedi Knights couldn't be everywhere, so the Sector Rangers held sway in their own systems. When the Empire overthrew the Old Republic, many of the larger forces were usurped into the Imperial machine as the Imperial Sector Rangers. Others simply fell through the cracks, and remained separate enforcement agencies. After the Battle of Endor, the Sector Rangers continued to bring Imperial law to the worlds of the Outer Rim. The motto of the Sector Rangers read, "What others abandon, we protect."

this was a group of para-military mercenaries who were active during the Galactic Civil War. They were easily distinguished by the blue-and-yellow coloration of their armor and vehicles.

Well think that covers JTL.
Tasariq Rangers
originally formed by Imperial Governor Dem Keval, this was a mercenary police force used to maintain control of the Tasar System during the Galactic Civil War. Governor Keval was given little in the way of resources to keep the system in line, so he hired a group of Iotran mercenaries to patrol the system. He named the group the Tasariq Rangers to give them a measure of legitimacy.

Trianii Rangers
an elite army of Trianii which is a highly-skilled legion of law enforcement officials. They are excellent marksmen, and can move with incredible stealth.

Oh aye, I can just see that.
Master Rifle / Master Marksman gives an impressive rate of fire and a wide selection of tools for the job. Couple that with Master Scout and however much Ranger you can still afford (about Tracking and part of Explo, or vice versa) and this seems to be 'about right'. Pretty much what am running on TC2 just now
As for the Solonar, I can get blue in my armour but not yellow. Maybe with padded it'd be possible. ROFL, I'll have to check my vehicle and droid mod kits later and see if I can respray them.

Wow nice stuff there mate. I especiallly like the Solonar Rangers details. That best suits my idea of what a ranger is in regards to PvP and the GCW. Add ontop of that stealth from the other type and there you have it, my ideal ranger, however, you would have master hunter stuff too
Once TH gets around to telling us our role, im sure if its the creature only role we can flame up a good old argument and this info will come in handy to take reference from. Hopefully we can clearly distinguish our own roles because i have the fealing our perception of what our role is clearly differs from that of the devs. Obviously im hoping TH says the devs views of what a ranger should be are:
Creature Hunter
GCW: Pathfinder, Recon, Stealth
Groups: Pathfinder, Hunting Guide, GCW roles
However im not holding my breath.

Top post was for Alma.
Owen I think the Hunter is just a gimme on the Rangers i posted. As most are out in the field. and move from hotspot to hot spot. I would love to see a Lawenforcement addition to us. We would be the Hutt/Smugglers nitemares. Catch them Sliceing a terminal and fine them. theres so much that could be done. But Rnager is still the best Prof in my skills. i just work around the thngs i can and cant do.
Funny the City i live im listed on milita as Marshall lol.

Yeah although this opens up a new avenue to push ranger forward, the idea of rangers becoming police men or marshals just doesnt interest me much at all. Yes there are good points and bad points to each development route but i just dont think that being a police man will keep the interest levels up for me to remain a ranger.
I like the idea of rangers being Legendary Hunters, Advanced Recon Units and Survivalists, not there to keep the peace and uphold the law as it were according to the SW info. I dont know, maybe its just me but, but oh well
Good points though, its just our visions of what a ranger should be differ in ways, nothing wrong with that hehe

I would like it to be a option. Nothing says you have to do that. And would give a Option to Do somethingwith alittle more interaction. But they would never make a Skill like that anyway. Would take away from the CSRs.

(remember, when I grow up I want to be Owen-Lars, so, no disrespect meant)
But.
Just thinking of the different types of ranger you can find in real life.
In no particular order. And in no way complete.
Park ranger.
Ranges (no pun intended) from the overglorified janitor who chases people out of gardens they aren't supposed to be in to the wildlife reserve ranger looking after beasties and making sure there are no poachers.
Border ranger.
paramilitary/police type patrols of border areas, maybe like city militia?
Military elite / special forces rangers
Either offensive tactical strike / recon teams or specialist counter-incursion units
Mountain man.
Well, Fred. Who needs a better example of the grumpy ol' ranger
Big game hunter
etc etc
There is definitely room in the profession for all manner of variation on the theme, allowing the RP of different types of ranger in different circumstances.
I think, in the GCW, it would be good for rangers taking part to be able to make use of our stealth, ease of movement, specialist weapons knowledge (I'm thinking Kentucky Rifleman here, in the broadest sense a frontiersman) for the good of one faction or the other.
In the general run of the game we aready act as harvesters and animal specialists, tho some CH skills would be weriously useful. As would a little SL skill... oh, and medic... heck, throw in entertainer and artisan too.
/ThreadDrift detected. Disengage brain.
OK, am going to have some coffee, wake up a bit more and think on this...
OH! but yeah, BIGGEST point is that hte role should remain flexible enough to allow the incorporation of other skills and thus enable us to recreate the different roles demanded of Ranger but adapted to our own play style.
Or, put it another way, give us a bit more from our SP investment!

Cant agree more padwan
The point i was making was i personally wouldnt find it interesting however that wouldnt stop me pushing it through with my full suport, the ranger profession isnt just about me and i know others would like it so that can only be a good thing.
The points i put down about what id like are just the things that interest me personally not what others may find interesting, im open to any developments in rangers aslong as they benefit the community as a whole, which this does.
hehe so yeah, i wasnt disagreeing, just noting its not something i would personally be interested in doing for my ranger, thats not to say it wouldnt be a good addition though
