Hey guys, with the Correspondent Summit on the Combat Balance approaching (at the end of August), I would like to get a list of the changes you would like to see to the Ranger profession. Please just list the general idea here and link to a post that focuses on the issue if there is such a post (i.e. Fred will list Stealth as what he wants and will provide a link, or address to his stealth thread). The idea of this list is to have a quick guide so I can see what the hot topics are .

Please keep this thread on topic.

I would like to see tracking implemented as proposed by the wonderful and esteemed Calculus_Entropy about half way down this thread.

My favorite change would be to give us better creature-centric to-hit and defenses.

-creature damage mitigation

-resists to creature poison/state attacks

-better creature attack speed and to-hit

I can't find the thread where we were discussing this last hopefully one of you with Edit3 or better can fix this if you find it.

Sorry if this isn't exactly what you want, Calc, but its a few ideas I like the sound of (with the agreement that fixes to current issues should come first) ...

1. Self promotion, I know, but I'd like a change to the tracking animations & method. As detailed in this thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=53718&highlight=kellennw#M53718

2. Either a Hunting Lodge or a Permanently Deployable camp to decorate as we like and live in. In other words -a special Ranger house.

3. And I'd also like to see a form of meditation for Rangers in the game (could be described as a better way of sitting) ... no buffs or healing, just sitting 'uniquely' and letting the world go by.

Personally i have a list of 4:

  1. /Track: Same as calc but i'd prefer this method personally - /TRACK

  2. Creature Toughness: Exactly what it says, and lots of it

  3. Harvest Increase: Much bigger bonus

  4. Traps: 5 easy to implement traps as detailed here - NEW TRAPS

1. I would like to be able to forage better food...so what if we compete a little with a chef. They get to customize and make factory runs.

2. I would like to be able to forage "spices" aka Drugs

3. I would like to be legolas...so give me a bow

4. I would like to have ranger specific Clothing like have.

5. I would like to be able to get specific missions from the terminals. ie if we want to hunt only carrion spats, we go to the terminal click on it, then click on the animal we want to hunt, it will then generate a list of missions with that particular animal or we could put resource type and it will generate a list of what resource type I want...

6. I would like SWG to provide a babysitter so I can play more SWG.

7. Notice these are all I would like...

Make it idiot-proof, and someone will make a better idiot.

I think that because we have the creature knowledge stat, that we could use that in a combat way. Since we as rangers know about creatures in the way that we do,I believe we have the knowledge of a creature's "weak spots" allowing us to pinpoint these areas on an animal and deal much more damage.

Also, as promised before we should have traps that affect humans.

- Have camps significantly increase the regeneration stats of pets (creatures and faction personel) so they can heal at a reasonable rate. The boost can be based upon the camp type. If possible, disable the boost while the pet is in combat.

This helps Scouts, Rangers, Creature Handlers and anyone that participates in the GCW. It gives camps a bit of a boost with a desirable trait instead of a forced use. Right now this might not be a huge benefit, however once the combat balance and GCW revamp hit, a lot of people will enjoy this change. (It was also something N'Raas and some of us pushed for but has since fallen by the wayside.)

Thinking about creatures 'weak points', I'd like to see Rangers have the ability to point out weak spots to fellow hunters - "Aim for the right leg!" - and everybody shoots or hits that spot for more damage.

Might tie in with the Squad Leader revamp - this ability can be done in a group, but its even more effective with a SL in the group alongside the Ranger.

The ability for Master Rangers to harvest all three resources from the critters we kill. I know that link is around here somewhere...........

Here are non revamp suggestions, but since we don’t know or understand their db structure, its anyone guess what quick fix is feasible

1) increase harvest rate (dramatically?) for Ranger at Master status; a potential problem is that this is a percentage system, where your harvest amount is a percentage of the possible whole -- if this is the case they would have to nerf everyone else in order to give us the bonus we need.

2) melee and ranged defense, or give a tangible dodge bonus; as masters of the hunt we should be able to withstand more dmg

3) allow/areatrack to act as a creature spawn system by calling the mission module

    • display animal list, and in addition to spawned creatures display n non-spawned creatures;

    • these creatures are not bound by group v creature lvl but by a weighted selection of the planet's spawn, with an exception made for spcl mob (i.e. something that should only appear in a cave or POI) this break from group v creature lvl being the only deviation from code already in place

    • allow user to select a mob and if it wasn't already spawned - spawn it just like the missions do -- but do not create waypoint

4) spread the bonus to harvest and tracking among the skill tree; the only "useful" attribute is contained entirely in one tree making it not too relevant to be Master, and making 0040 Rangers essentially equals to Masters in terms of utility.

Not on the top of my list:

1) creature to hit bonus -- I really have little problem hitting creatures. This only seems useful to someone who went Master Ranger and non-master combat profession; I'd hate to get this at the expense of something more widely useful like harvest amounts or defense

Don’t think they can do easily

1) dmge increase; this seems to be weapon type specific, so they would have to give all weapon types; while possible it would seem strange to see a bonus for every marksman and every brawler profession in Master Ranger and would likely lead to a nerf stick cry; seems like a revamp item

2) camp changes; what has been proposed is huge

3) trap changes; as these are player created devices there is more to them than a loot drop add, including but not limited to determination of the effects of components on the traps effectiveness -- this may be a reusable algorithm but then may not be

Anyway, that’s my two cents -- really for me camp usefulness and spreading the harvest and tracking bonuses about are my only quibbles with this lifestyle.

In order of preferance:

  1. Harvest mod. Has to be done

    • If possible, harvest all of the creature

  2. Hardiness. This would be in the form of reduced HAM cost (we get it for /burstrun already) across the board. Some reduced damage across the board would also make sense.

  3. Creature Knowledge contributing to a damage and to hit mod. For everything. And none of that silly +10 crap, it should be noticable and compensate for the use of 140 skill points that we can't use on a combat prof.

  4. Ditto for defenses and wilderness survival tactics. Again, to compensate for an inability to get a "defence template" there should be something here. Maximums would still apply.

one, some or all should take place while we wait for combat revamp. Only other thing I would add is the agro problem (make the camps that were supposed to have that, have that) or stop the disband if you are in combat. The one was ment to be there for the other and is now very, very silly. I would also like to see camps able to make desease and poison end faster then the normal period. Full cure, wihile would rock , but are to intrusive to docs.

Well first i need to ask will this be set up to work in to a revamp over the course of time? It would be nice to get a combat row in ranger like a bow and that. This would effect are combat readyness and it would be nice to add in to the field. But this would be more of a revamp idea in the ranger then just a little fix.

My thoughts on a working gcw/rank and fun factor in this game.......
