Thread: New Ranger Skill XP Requirements Will Make Me A CH, BH, Rifleman or Carbineer

Until today's patch, I was leaning strongly toward being a Ranger. Now that you need tons of XP to get anywhere in that line now, CH, BH, Carbineer or Rifleman looks better.

When I solo a big animal, like a Famba, I get about 2-3K rifle or carbine xp. about 400-440 Scouting xpand about 400-520 CH xp.

Now that Ranger xp is on the same level (I think) as CH xp, why the heck would you want to be Master Ranger instead of the other four lines? They all have more power than a Ranger does and they have relatively less costs to get.

Dang it, why did this get changed just as I was starting to get into the Ranger line? CH was nerfed just as I was getting into it, now Rangers, too. Just as you grab for the brass ring, it's snatched away from you, just like greedy corporations dangle carrots at you in real life.

The devs are driving me to violence! Guns are the only answer!

Why were the numbers raised? Because in 2 days, before the patch, I aquired 140k scouting experience no problem, and now anyone can harvest within a group which mean when grouped, you can harvest every single creature the group kills for experience.

The increases are really pretty minor and still less than what it takes on some of the combat professions in terms of time it takes to achieve.

Better take a look at those skill points if you want to be a BH. I currently have a BH/Ranger and am having to surrender it for master ranger. Gonna have to go carbineer,

I also have 15 for novice medic, but I'mpretty sure thats standard for everyone. I know I couldnt live without it.

SolrFlare, hope you are right. I'd like to see a list of new Ranger xp requirements posted. Are they now the same as CH xp tree? I've beer laboring forever to get CH xp.

And since I solo, the group xp benefits you speak of mean squat to me. Looks like a solo player nerf in this line to me.

- Totally agree.

- I hit Master Ranger weeks ago, but I'm still working on the blasted Combat Experience required for my last box in TK

New requirements result in a total of 70k more experience needed for each branch of the ranger tree....*except* for camping which has "dropped" in cost fairly significantly, especially since you now get wilderness xp for crafting scout/ranger related items.

SolrFlame, depending on where it falls in the tree, that's not too bad. I just wished I'd have scouted instead of shopped last night and I would have already finished Wayfaring 3.

Wayfaring is the most important Ranger skill to me, since I solo and I could always use more speed and camo.

I guess I'll have to forget about grouping for a while longer, now. Can't afford to share xp with anyone with these increases.

Must be an SOE server issue, 'cause I didn't intend to. SWG Forums are the slowest and hardest to search boards I've ever seen.

Seriously, did not mean to double post and I did not do it on purpose.

Hi ScottieFL:

I understand your frustration, I am trying to climb the Ranger tree myself. My humble recommendation is play the type of avatar you enjoy. For me, I really like the RP and in-game benefits of being a Ranger, though it is not for everyone. I know my profession choice will limit me in other areas, but I find myself constantly enjoying the Ranger benefits (increased harvesting, the ability to escape detection better, and I haven't even really tried the new skills introduced today).

CH is a great profession, and I think Ranger is a natural compliment to that skill. I am going to have a hard time giving up medic, but I think Master Ranger (when I get there, hehe) will be worth it for me. Again, it is a personal choice.

I can't imagine being stuck in a cantina all day, but I am VERY appresiative of the wonderful entertainers who do (remember to tip 'em good, some are leaving and chosing other professions). The Rangers I have met in-game and on these boards strike me as some of the nicest people playing (but I am biased). Zkull's Antarian Rangers seems great, and I hope someone has that PA going on Wanderhome.

The climb up the Ranger tree is now more difficult, but I think it was a needed change, this coming from someone who isn't a Master, yet. I am going to be very proud of my Title when I earn it, as I am sure you be of yours, which ever profession you chose.

I use to play Asheron's Call (4 years worth) so I know about nerfs and missing the brass ring. That ring is there for us still, just a little higher out of reach.

And I am still climbing for it. If you happen over to Wanderhome, give me an /tell, we can hunt together. Good hunting friend.

I don't see how the increase in XP requirements would make rangers less desireable that CH or BH. Heck, the combat xp needed for the last BH tree is enough to make anyone scream. I think that the new XP levels are fine and agree that they are more in line with some of the other adv. professions.
