Thread: Vehicles = Camo Nerf

Currently on TC vehicles can pretty much outrun anything in the wilderness, however traveling at high speeds can cause reds to spawn right on top of you. Currently there is a request to have this fixed by the devs and my concern is that this may nerf camo kits completely. I meanwho needs a camo kit when you can ride a swoop bike and outrun anything that aggroes on you? I predict that at the very least camo kits will be useless except for only the most difficult planets.

not really a nerf.... more like obsolete.

Ther conceal skill of teh Ranger will still prove useful in protecting the non-combat members of a party. Conceal the medics so they can roam the battlefield doing good deeds and keeping us alive.

Vehicles should do all this though.

If you want to save camo, let it work in PvP against overt players of the opposing faction. You'd see more master rangers running around than ever before. It wouldn't even have to make you 'invisible'... taking you off the radar would be enough of an equalizer.

It's not as overwhelming as it may initially seem... you'd still be able to tab target someone, and as you can't apply cammo to pets you'd still be able to see them on your radar. It would just add a stealth element to PvP combat.

This is actually my number one request. You want rangers to be useful? This would be one of the best ways to do so.

While I agree that camo is pretty much useless and breaks far too often, it could still be useful in the hunting environment as well. Just because you don't need while on a vehicle doesn't mean that everyone will be on vehicles. While hunting, I don't see many in my parties on mounts right now while in the act. Why assume that people will be in vehicles? I would only think that would be the case while getting out to the happy hunting grounds. Also consider that with player cities, shuttleports will get rid of quite a bit of travel. Are they a nerf to camo too?

I have already planned on dropping that line as it is useless to me at this point. I was on Dantooine hunting last night and everytime I would conceal someone it would break within 5 mins. I can always get it back if and when things improve.

First they have to make camo viable, from what i hear it doesnt work to well anyways. Then after that(if that ever happens) camo will be perfectly useful. You cant attack or do anything else in a vehicle except make it go zoom. So im assuming when people are hunting they will not be in vehicles, so camo will be nice to keep mean things off your back side. Vehicles are meant to be fast transportation that allow you to move around planets without being killed. Camo kits are meant to keep unneeded aggroes away and if ranged to help keep them from finding you.

Camo is great for hunting specific targets in crowded areas, eg Dathomir. Having a vehicle won't help you on Dath's terrain, and it certainly won't make you invisible to surrounding enemies during combat =)

This is a riflemen speaking, and I'm not sure about this, but i believe that you can crash your vehicles into trees and the like, meaning that these forrest planets will kill your swoop/speeder. You guys will have a more tactile approch to camo. I may be wrong, so don't flame me, but that may be true.

The SWG cycle:
1 - "This game is AWSOME"
2 - "Oh MAN! That battle was AMAZING!"
3 - "I'm really getting sick of this grinding, but I'm almost there!"
4 - "I swear if that bug happens again, I'm quiting!"
5 - "Oh screw this! I'm quiting"
6 - Repeat from step 1

As far as I have seen from the vehicles on test center, they work like mounts and players do. When you hit a tree or rock or building or whatever is solid you just glance off to the side of it, w/o taking damage. But with vehicles being big(landspeeder) and fast(all of them) trees do create a big obstacle(slow you down), and you cant turn on a dime. Over a long period of time if you keep bumping it around I think the vehicle might take damage, but im not 100% sure on that.

Well sure, vehicles will make camo and maskscent obsolete for travel, but eventually you're going to have to get out of your vehicle and do something, right? When you're running missions on Dathomir and those 4 Craggy Bolma 70m away from your lair don't know you're there, you'll be happy to have that camo kit.

I think the bigger issue with mounts and now vehicles is that it completely removes the imporants of terrain navigation for both us and squad leaders. I have a ranger and a weaponsmith, my weaponsmith I had to give up the scout profession for the points and I hated it hugely and typically only travelled with my squad leader friend. I thought this was a nice addition to the game. Now who cares, I have a mount that will take me over that rough terrain, no real need for terrain nav and the mobility line of squad leaders is pointless when your whole party is mounted.

Vehicles are Bs from the get go... 16min from Theed to Moenia. Thats over water, rocks, and mountainous terrain.. I don't think so... sure maybe dantooine were its just rolling hills and a few creeks of water... Lok? Dathomir.. full speed ahead anywere u please... WHAT THE !!!! Come on .. Lok, u had better not be able to climb a mountain on a speeder.. let alone the revines and caverns of dathomir. SURE.. go ahead get a vehicle but u had better not be faster on dathomir then I... good luck.. watch out for the trees.!!!
