2 nights ago right after the patch I went out to fish for 3rd time ever.

I spend 1 hour at the Oasis on Tatooine. Caught 25 fish total, I filet them all for 101 Tatooine Fish Meat. (noone is gonna believe me if I tellI got tatooine fish meat).

I struggled to catch 5 total fish the previous 2 times I went fishing when I was still a novice. Is there a ranger skillmod skill directly tied to fishing?

I caught Striped Fish, Black Fish, Blue Fish, Laa, Faa, Raa and one more I forgot. 25 Total, so much I had to detroy them cause my bag was full.

Don't think so... could it be you had yourself a new fishing pole, there is better than the previous one you used?

Lucky you... I fished for an hour last night and didn't catch a single thing... all nibbles. Not a single bite for a LONG time now.

The pools of water change fish density from time to time. Sorta like resoruce shifts. Odds are that the tatooine oasis actually increased to a high density fishing spot now.

Is a 4 star density for fish good? That's what I saw the whole time I was losing bait that night.

High fish density and low veg density are what you want.

High Fish = more bites

High Vegatation = more lost bait

At least this has been my experiance.

Maybe I should add how I catch them, as I read someone only gets nibbles. This sequence I seem to get a bite right after the nibble 80% of the time.

Nibble : Quick Tug Up

Bite : Tug Right

Caught : Small Reel.

Then the window should dissapear and the PC takes over. Try stying close to the shore so you have room to take a few steps towards the fish.

Lucky. =( I've drowned more worms and bugs than I can remember. I frequently get bites but even with my trusty rusty Fishmaster 2000 (70% effectiveness) fishing pole o' doom, I can't seem to get the buggers to shore. Close, but never actually caught. I read somewhere that once you try to reel it in, you can wade out to the bobber and get the fish rather than try to fight it to shore and potentially loose it. I've yet to try this, but sounds promising. Just once I'd like to catch something.

Always fish with your feet in the water, as close as possible to the deep water where you swim... just casting isn't enough, you have to tug after nibble and bite, I get a caught most of the time if I tug once after nibble and once after a bite, I never mess with it after it says caught in the window.
Don't fish from land, you won't catch anything.. don't fish from bridges, same thing.

I don't think the levels did something, they did an overall change in success rate for Rangers. I could NEVER catch one and now it's 90%. 10 minutes I got 4, 3 were in the .7 m range...

This is what I do:
Bait is your primary effect, you get different fish and difficulty. The Q of the materials of the pole dictate, if you get snagged in the weeds, how long you are snagged, and the likelyhood you will in the first place. Picking a weedy spot ups the chance you get snagged but I find the most 1 m ones here, altho I got one biggie in the open so that isn't set in stone. Look carefully at the playing school of fish animation in the water and fish in that direction. That is what tugs do: if nibble and the school is drifting left tug left, right for right and stay at tug up if your bobber (that little red dot in the water) is right on top of that school. If you get "bite" tug up: that is your chance to set the hook, but it is random somewhat.

Next thing VERY important:
Right after you start the fish command you want to be in free cursor mode. You can't select the menu options fast enough in "drive mode". You get there by pressing the ALT key normally. One hand should be on the mouse and the other on the return key. When the menu pops up quickly pick the correct choice (the ones I stated above) and hit return. Do nothing if you see "Waiting...", however. keep that cursor in the spot on the screen to select your choice, so that you can pick, then hit return with relative speed. Faster is better (and don't miss, take the time to pick the right choice) and I bet most critical with higher ping times.

Keep that bobber following the school of fish when possible. If you get "Caught Something" do small reel in. If you succeed you go through a sequence (that you have no control of) looking like you and the fish are in the classic fish-man dual. I don't know if there is a chance for a line break here (sic. quality of pole effect) but it would make sense, it's just not happened to me.

Most failures result in lost bait, tho not all. Hope that helps.

Nearly EVERY fishing spot has shallow enough water. All you need to do is place yourself parallel to the water line and cast into the shallow water. Unlike real life you can catch the same fish in the deep water as in ankle deep water. It saves a lot of time.

I just wish they'd do something about how much meat you get from each fish. It needs to be based on the size of the fish so that higher ranked rangers and scouts get more per fish. I would make since to if your harvesting skill would give you a boast to the amount of meat you got from each fish.

You don't need to use the mouse to click anyone on the fish window, you can use the up and down arrows to select choose and enter to press ok. It's much faster, the only thing is you need to have that window selected. If you move your mouse to another window and click or try to type you'll have to click the fish window again to use the arrows keys and enter key on it.

My last fishing trip I caught about 50 fish for a total of about 200 meat in about 2 hours of stop-and-go fishing. Mind you the meat was of very high quality (or I wouldn't have bothered). Fileting the fish gives you extra bait and reduces the volume of the fish from 3 to 1, and you can sell the fish husks to people looking to make an aquarium (I sell bags of 10 for 2k).

I can say the quality of the fishing pole matters. I was using a 13.0 quality pole for a while and switched to a 76.0 pole after I conned...convinced a master armorer in my PA to make one for me. My most productive fishing came in 4* density waters (0* vegetation). I looked around for a 5* spot (I know they exist) but didn't see one.

Since the usefulness and scarcity of high qualityfishmeat are not hand-in-hand, I doubt I'll fish again any time soon.

I found a 5* spot with no vegetation on Endor. Loverly!

Alas I had no room in my inventory, otherwise I would have fished a lot more than I did.
