Hello all - has anyone else had problems with the harvesting / loot bug. Essentially what happens is that either you or your group can't harvest even though you or your group should have harvest / loot permissions. Apparently, this was introduced with the latest patch.
I was wondering if there was something going on because I have recentlybeen getting tells from scouts and rangers asking me whether I could harvest. Until last night, I would go out, shoot something, harvest, respond with "hmmm - harvestseems to be working fine," and I would list the most common reasons for not being able to loot, etc.... I did thinkit was strange that a number of people who were contacting me were clearly veteran players,and not n00bs...
But the other night I was on Dant. with a large hunting group, and we could not harvest any of the kills. We were the only group, so of course we did most of the damage, all pets were grouped, etc.... Harvest macros would not work, and the harvest options would not show up on the radial menu. If you selected loot from the radial menu, it would say "you do not have permission to access this corpse."
I've heard various theories about the cause of this and how to fix it. Most theories hold that if one player gets bugged, then that bug will affect the entire group, so the solution is to kick the bugged player or players from the group. Others have said that if you disbandand reform the group, it will work, while still others have said that a server restart is the only hope for the players in question.
One other theory that I have heard is that if the group is so large as to be completely dominant (ie., all its victims con light blue or green), then harvest is disabled -- this last theory would suggest that this bug is by design, and in fact not a bug, but if this were the case, then I should not be able to harvest from the various kreetles, rasps, etc.... that I one-shot on a daily basis.
So, have any of you been affected by this bug? If so, could you fix it,and how?
I don't know - I myself am pretty much a solo hunter anymore,and I have the feeling that many of us are, so maybenot many of us have been affected by this bug, but I have had reports of it affecting solo hunters as well -- in fact, one of the first tells I got about this was from a solo hunter.

Hanadak rock smasherswere bugged for me recently.
Supposed to be able to get carnivore meat. /harvest meat yielded nothing and radial menu didnt have any choices at all for those critters.

While there may be different issues on different servers, I have never been unable to harvest something becuase the group is too powerful. There was a time a LONG time ago (while I was still a scout) when my bud and I would be grouped (must have been right after the 60% reduction patch) that my bud and I would be grouped, kill spats, and he could harvest when i could not. That seems to have worked itself out tho. I have also noticed that certian types of Hanadaks would allow meat harvest while other types would not, even if they were from the same lair. Also, keep in mind that if you try to harvest an "illegal" resource (bones from a jellypiket) you can no longer harvest anything form that animal.

This happened to me last night. I could not harvest and my group was killing enraged rancors. I am on Gorath.

It's a current bug that seems to happen when the group leader is changed (either by /make leader or by group leader leaving). Simply reform the group and all will be well.

Ahhh- thanks - this makes sense now when I think about it, as there were a number of squad leaders using the group to get xp, so they were constantly assigning each other leadership.

Hostile Thune Mothers are also non-harvestable, last I checked =/

I was in a group but over 4K away from them,killed my target and then got "you don't have permission to loot that corpse".
We had a squad leader in the group but I don't know if group leadership changed...I'll check it out later on this weekend

I've also had this happen when the critter was killed with one of the commando flame-thrower special attacks
(the commando was part of our group, no leadership change)

Some POI's that have a real in-the-wilderness critter are unharvestable. One example is the Mites Cave on Talus.

I just posted this on the bloodfin board."Last night I was in a Rancor group. We went to our first lair, dropped all the rancors but no one could loot them or harvest them. When we went to loot it said you don't have permission to access. Harvest wouldn't come up on the radial menu. Did anyone else have this problem last night?" Figured I'd check here, glad i did. It would figure to because all I need is about 90K or scouting xp and I'll be Master Ranger. Screwed by SOE again, they just don't want me to unlock...lol.

I thought of somethingon the general issue (not this particular one as it sounds like it a grouping problem) of not being able to harvest. If you kill something that is more than half dead when you get there, you probably won't get the looting rights. This may be a cause of some of the problems (especially on the more popular to hunt mobs) with harvesting/looting, but obviously groups that change leaders are an issue too. Food for thought.

I have had problems with harvesting Hanadaks since launch. I can only harvest them about 25% of the time. It's really weird. I gave up hunting them, it drives me so nuts. I had this same problem in the Geonosian Lab the other night with a big group, but we had the same leader the whole time. I couldn't loot or harvest any of the Kwi's or Kliknik's.
